Rate this book
Isla struggles to embrace her fae nature while preserving her humanity in the final, exciting instalment of the Isla’s Inheritance trilogy.

Isla has spent months persuading the Canberra fae that she isn’t a tyrant like her mother, trying to prove that—despite her mixed blood—she’s human, not a monster. That she’s one of them, not one of the high fae who enslaved them.

But a vision of a fresh-dug grave warns that someone is going to die.

When the Old World fae once again move against her family, seeking revenge for old wrongs, Isla will stop at nothing to keep those she loves safe. She just wants to be left alone. But to win that right for herself, her family and all Australian fae, she must cross the oceans and take the fight to the country of her birth.

I am not sure why I think this is a trilogy - I must have seen it written somewhere - but it did not end with a fanfare! I suppose all the story arcs were tied up and there was a special moment right at the end but it was very speedy and low key.

Never mind - the book itself was interesting and nicely written. If you are really interested in the Fae there was a lot of information about the nature of different creatures and descriptions of their courts. A lot of time was spent on a journey under the sea and the author dreamed up all sorts of fantastic happenings there. Isla's gift turned out to be amazing.

Definitely a book for the younger end of YA readers but still entertaining for one not at all young like me!

Convincing the local fae that she had their best interests at heart was proving more difficult than she had imagined, but Isla was determined. She lived with her Aunt and cousins, Sarah and Ryan in Canberra, Australia, while her father lived some distance out of town on a farm. Slowly though, with her hob and boyfriend Jack by her side the fae began to look on her favourably. All but Evie, Jack’s sister – her story was a deeply complicated and sad one; she hoped to get her on her side too one day. But when Isla saw the drawing by Ryan of his latest vision, everything else went from her mind – a new grave with a nameless headstone – someone was going to die…

When Aunt Elizabeth and Isla’s father David had to journey to England from Australia unexpectedly, the reason for their trip was a sad one. But what happened when they arrived in London meant Isla and Jack had to make the decision to return to the Old World themselves. The revenge and death which was being plotted by the Old World fae against Isla and her family strengthened her fight – she must meet up with her mother, Melpomene at long last; she must prove her strength and win the fight to save her beloved family.

But could Isla survive crossing the oceans between Australia and England? Her confidence was stronger with her hob by her side but her journey was fraught with danger; the new experiences were both awe inspiring and terrifying. Her goal was immense – proving that she was Melpomene’s daughter was vital. But could she? Would she?

I absolutely loved this third and final installment in the Isla’s Inheritance series by Aussie author Cassandra Page. An excellent plot which brought everything to a very satisfying conclusion; the storyline is brilliant. The author has a great imagination and is definitely at the top of her game! I have no hesitation in recommending Melpomene’s Daughter highly, but if you haven’t read Isla’s Inheritance (#1) and Isla’s Oath (#2) I implore you to do so first. You won’t be sorry! (I love the cover too!)

With thanks to the author for my copy to read and review.

A good ending to a pleasant trilogy. Isla meets her mother in trying circumstances and proves that she is as powerful (or moreso) that her mother. She saves everybody and gets them home safely. A very enjoyable trilogy which I have read in 3 days. My only caveat is the use, by an Australian author, of Americanisms such as "stoop" for verandah, "purse" for handbag, "swum" for the past tense of swim ("she swum through the waves" instead of swam), etc. Very irritating.
