Thanks--I just read it from your link and it was 4 stars for me.
I finished reading The Johnstown Flood. I enjoyed the history and the story of the flood but found the book too long, too detailed, too dry. Too many quotes (often repetitive), too many names.

I read Painter to the King by Amy Sackville. A portrayal of the court of King Philip IV of Spain by focusing on the artist Diego Velázquez and his portraits of Philip and his family. The writing was very clever, but I think it was a little over the top. She seemed to favor style over substance. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Read and enjoyed the WWII historical fiction The Girl Without a Name: Beautiful and heartbreaking World War 2 historical fiction

Lara Hawthorne has produced the loveliest Christmas book I've seen in a long time. The Twelve Days of Christmas is beautiful and has a lot of interesting details kids (and grown-ups) will love. Great gift!
5★ My review of The 12 Days of Christmas
On a different note, The Night Whistler by Greg Woodland is an Aussie rural crime story that features a young boy who refuses to give up and a disgracefully demoted detective who believes him.
3.5★ My review of The Night Whistler
Finished the ⭐⭐⭐⭐ atmospheric, character driven mystery

I read L.M. Montgomery's The Blue Castle - a good escape from all the election news I had been obsessing over! IMO, it isn't as good as her Anne of Green Gables but still a charming gentle love story.
Finished

Finished Jane Dunn's Elizabeth & Mary: Cousins, Rivals, Queens and reviewed it - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3618084802
The Book Club by C.J. Cooper. For some reason the link and cover won't come up in the small pic . The search keeps telling me it doesn't exist. It does. My review is here https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I finally read a book I've been wanting to read for some time: The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. I thought it was fantastic up until the last 150 pages. But, on the whole, it was a great reading experience. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I also read a novella: I'jaam by Sinan Antoon. The subject matter is difficult. It is about the experiences of a young Iraqi university student held in detention during the time of Saddam Hussein. It captures the fear and brutality of living under a totalitarian government.

Finished this book (published in Oct 2020):The Blind Light by Stuart Evers - 4 stars - My Review
Set in the UK, story of a long-lasting friendship between two men, Drummond Moore and James Carter, who meet during their military service. They bond over shared experiences at Doom Town, a civil defense center that simulates situations related to nuclear war. They are from different classes and backgrounds. We follow their long-lasting friendship, relationships, marriages, and children from the late 1950s to the 2010s. The plot is structured around worldwide events that induce fear, showing that just as one subsides, another takes over. I enjoyed the literary writing style. The premise of this book caught my attention. Evers examines fear, how it can permeate decisions, and the resulting harm to those we seek to protect. It seems like a pertinent topic for our times.
My review of The Dressmaker's Secret by Charlotte Betts

Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz is similar to Magpie Murders, which I loved. This one is also clever and complex.
