Craig White | 6727 comments anyone but england,
absolutely anyone will do,
i'd support a team of wife beating nazis,
before i said a nice thing about you.............................everybody sing! :)

naymar (by far the most bizarre hairdo yet) is soft as shight, wants it on a plate, shirks tackles, and spent more time on the floor than a speedfreak carpet fitter! apart from c. ronaldo, none of the 'biggies' have woken up yet, which offers hope that ego might not win the world cup, mibbe a fitba' team will! england's result and performance tonight is more vital than they're letting on, it'll determine whether they go any further. personally i think they've got the personnel to do well (on paper), but it remains to be seen if they got the baws for it!

Craig White | 6727 comments it's just struck me what's different about the english team/squad this time! there's no-one that i loathe, despise or find distasteful - no-one to set the teeth on edge, no-one looking for a punch on the nose! the worst i can think is that harry kane is an amalgam of beavis AND buthhead, but that's no cause for rancour! disappointing!
A.B.E.!!!!!

theDuke | 6506 comments Good start to England's campaign...definitely the stronger side currently..just a shame about Walker conceding that penalty..the muppet!

message 704: by theDuke (last edited Jun 18, 2018 01:29PM) (new)

theDuke | 6506 comments Well..after what looked like a luke warm 2nd half....thank the lord for Kane...very very lucky, me thinks! And it wasn't as if Tunisia was particularly a strong side neither. England will have to smack seven shades of hades out of the Panamians, to stand a good chance of coming top of the group...if they can beat Belgium that is!

Commentator quote of the day: *relating to technical issues with the broadcasting quality* - "There maybe midges in the machinery tonight!" :)

message 705: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments that reminded me of..................scotland!!! making heavy weather of edging a win over a team you should have scudded 6-0! still, 3pts is 3pts.

message 706: by TheFoe (new)

TheFoe | 2648 comments Ref was weak, I counted at least 2 occassions where Harry Kane was wrestled to the ground in the penalty area right in front of him, and he did nothing. Not using that as an excuse, as England were poor in the second half, but wasn't that what VAR was meant for?

message 707: by Craig White (last edited Jun 19, 2018 10:52AM) (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments innaresting game this evening - could be a rocket to Russia, and put mo salah on the road to ruin, wishing he never had been made to leave home! Russians are too tough to die, so it'll be (un)pleasant dreams for mo!

message 708: by theDuke (last edited Jun 19, 2018 05:07PM) (new)

theDuke | 6506 comments How the blazes can a team that ranked so low, now suddenly be so good? I still think there something funny going on with the Russians....8 goals in 2 games??!! That's not happened since 1934 or something....just too fishy for my liking. And Mo Salah, despite getting that penalty in fine style, shouldn't have been played imo..he clearly isn't fully healed yet.

Russia..one of the consistently world's worse performing teams, are now suddenly looking like as if they can go the distance....I would not be at all surprised if they make it to the last 8, mibbe the last 4, given the way they seem to be 'playing'...now!

In fact..while i'm on this....hasn't the results so far in this World Cup, been just a wee bit of a cowinkidinks, that most of the top teams..are struggling to win their first games this year? Germany, Argentina, Not even the Brazilians could win theirs...and now Poland, who were absolutely dire in their opening game, yet are ranked 8th in the world..couldn't win either.

Something's just isn't right here.....I wouldn't be surprised after the games have finished, rumours of match fixing start floating around the media circles...i'm just not buying it....the whole thing stinks.

Somebody pass me the gas mask please!

Hey Dunc...You've not been betting on these matches have you!

message 710: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments wow! i never thought i'd hear the pundits/commentators spouting such detestable garbage as when england are playing, but last night they were falling over themselves to offer mo salah their tongues, as somewhere he might like to sit! he was obviously unfit, should have been subbed, and tbh, the penalty was all he did!
told you about the russians! that big centre, dzyuba, works like a horse, and is built like the stables - good old fashioned centre-forward. winners? maybe!
i don't think that the scores are crooked, just the big names not getting their own way - you have to produce if you want to be a world cup 'legend', not just turn up!

The first match against the Saudis was terribly dodgy imo. Egypt looked like they wanted it - a tad - but what the hell was their keeper playing at? It only takes one player to fff-fluff everything up.
Really wun't stick me neck out (lest Vlad has it slit?) and swear that the Russians have some officials and players in their pocket but would not bet against it either. If someone came out and said they'd been approached, out would come that old "It's just your typical anti-Russian propaganda" chestnut and that'd be that. They do have a habit of getting away with murder... literally.
That said, the Russian team are oozing confidence now. State sponsored charlie program perhaps? : )

message 712: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments :) i wonder if failure will be rewarded by a free transfer to Dinamo Saltmines?
scenario - russia 1-0 down, 5 mins to go in the final. substitute is arguing with the 4th official, "i can't let you on the field without a shirt on, Mr Putin, have me shot if you must, but rules are rules!"

message 717: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments a bit zzzzzzzzz? that was a dreadful day, and the way teams are being dispatched from the contest there's going to be plenty of meaningless matches coming up between teams waiting for the plane home!

message 718: by theDuke (new)

theDuke | 6506 comments France were awful today..just so limp, especially in the 2nd half..i feel felt for the Panamanians..they tried..and kept trying..just couldn't realised a goal.

And the less said about Argentina the better....they ain't gonna make it out of the group stages.

message 719: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments great news folks! i've been called up to the argentinian squad - they're looking for someone short, with their shirt tail out, to walk around the park looking disinterested and miserable! perfect fit!

anyhoo, it's about that time of year when I like to celebrate and salute my Panamanian heritage, so...……..A.B.E.!

message 724: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments so much for that then! this crew are not of a standard to play at a world cup. very poor! but I suppose they qualified, so hey ho! not going to be 11 Panamanians on the park by the end of what really should be an England walkover.

message 725: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments right 0-5! the comeback starts here! :)

no disputing a quality shafting going on, but that's the commentators/pundits now on boak mode - 1966, yadda yadda, that's what really grinds the gears of us Panamanians! think i'll watch the second half muted (the telly, not me!) or seeing as i'm working, mibbe I should go and do something meaningful!...…..nah.

message 726: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments humph! cannae argue with that then. a decent striker would have had panama hitting three in the last 20 mins tho'!

I think you spoke way way too soon Tech!

I don't think I've seen England play like that...ever! 6 Goals!!!! Woohoo! :)

PS....how cooooool is Kane..no fuss, no hissy fits..no ego...no...er not a lot really..just gets on with it ..and getting on with it he is, in fine stylee! How refreshing!

theDuke | 6506 comments How crap was the ref in the Portugal v Iran game? Gee..he loved that bloody VAR screen dun he?! And still couldn't produce the right decision…..shoulda gone to speccy savers innit! :)

Fantastic end to the game...pity that 2nd Iranian goal was disallowed..i woulda been laughing my socks off, if Portugal had flunked! Messy blinkin' game though..too much pointless acting going on. And how the blazes didn't that Portuguese player not get a red card after he kneed that Iranian player in the love spuds?! S**t ref indeed!

message 733: by Blastronaut (last edited Jun 26, 2018 06:47AM) (new)

Blastronaut | 1061 comments This's gonna sound daft but I don't think England played that well t'other day despite knocking six in. Nobody would like to see the team do well more than me but I'm not gonna get too excited - let's see how it goes against Belgium, that's assuming both field a strong team, which's by no means a given.
How many chances will Sterling get over Rashford? Has quick feet does Sterling but he just don't know where the bloody goal is... even when he's a yard away from it!! I understand that the Southgoat's thinking it's best using Rashford as a 'impact' substitute but at what cost when it comes to the better teams? Not terribly convinced with Maguire either; likes to give the ball away a bit. Dangerous.
On a plus note, it's great to see a striker like Harry Kane who keeps his head; after years of watching Rooney sheet himself every time he played tournament footie, it's quite refreshing. Our youngest and meself have always called him 'Donkey Kane' (as in Donkey Kong) as he does look a little cumbersome at times but... he DOES know where the goal is at, that be for sure.

I see Saudi Arabia actually turned up to the competition after the Russian debacle. Oughtta be a-bloody-shamed of emselves, so they did.

Less said about last night's ref the better methinks, and don't forget the whole 'panel' who're sat in there with just one job to do, which they couldn't manage - "Errr, ya better come n have a look yerself ref, we just don't got a clue!"

Was anyone hoping Karma was gonna come to get Ronaldo when the Iranian player went down like he'd been shot? I certainly was. Can't argue the lad's quality, and he didn't deserve to get a red for the infringement... but surely it's time someone else had a nod or a wink at his expense.

message 734: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments well, there'd have been an inquest if England hadn't put 6 past a team that are on a level with lower league football. if I was an England supporter (it's ok blastro, i'm very not!:)) i'd be worried about teams attacking them with methods not in the 'how to football' manual - a couple of times panama had them rattled when they hit with the unpredictable - likes of lukaku, de bruyne and hazard would eat up that stuff!

message 735: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments mutually agreed result? if I was French or Danish, and had travelled all the way to Russia, paying a fortune for a ticket, I wouldn't be awfully happy after watching this waste of time!

message 736: by Blastronaut (last edited Jun 26, 2018 01:35PM) (new)

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Dunnah worry about that one Tech, I certainly didn't have ya down for an England supporter. Panama, Tunisia and Belgium supporter maybe... : )

Dagnabbit! That's the second time in a few days that I've been on the edge of wild celebrations, just to be downed in the last minute-or-two; the Germans managed to score with barely seconds left and now Argentina have pulled it outta the bag late on. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!!

message 737: by theDuke (new)

theDuke | 6506 comments The Belgium game will be the bench tester for England, both pretty at par with one another, me thinks. I'm plumping for a draw..England are good, but they've made a few basic mistakes, like letting that Panamanian goal in, when they got complacent. Granted, with 6 goals in the bag, I guess they could afford to relax in that game, but now it gets tougher...time to see just how good or not, England really is.

Yeah...I really thought the plucky Nigerians had it...would've so loved to have seen them go through, if for no other reason than to see Maradona's bloated face, crying! God I hate him! Such a obnoxious drama queen!

And they get to play France next...which on another day, one would think the froggies would wipe the floor with them, but...& I dunno what you lot think about France's team this year....but quite frankly imo, they have been the dullest side in the comp so far...just so limp & lifeless...and this team cost how much?!

So I expect the Argy's will take them to the cleaners!

message 739: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments mibbe argentina have got what it takes to win the contest. they didn't give up at all - a lot will still depend on messi's participation tho'! aye, they'll do the french!

message 740: by theDuke (new)

theDuke | 6506 comments I got just one thing to say about Wednesday's games....Germany.....utterly useless! Oh...how I laughed my head off!! :)

They were so bad..even their goalkeeper decided to go for a stroll into the middle of the pitch....I couldn't believe my eyes when that second Korean goal went in.....what an utter farce that was!

How can the reining holders (not any more!), become the worse side since 1938, in just 4 years??!!

Ah well...that's one thing less for England to worry about...but .i'm starting to wonder if England has any serious contenders this year; Belgium ought to be one...maybe Portugal..but the others, not so sure....all of them have their faults, Russia won't make it, neither France, and I doubt Argentina will..unless they resort to their usual cheating dirty tricks to get penalties

That said...we haven't seen what England are truly capable of yet...tonight will be tester.

message 741: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments definitely something going on behind the scenes with germany - the team they put out should have walked the koreans, but were alarmingly disjointed, and tbh, in the latter stages of the game didn't look too bothered about remedying the situation. strange!

as i said, england have the tools to win the tournament, so long as the oppositions play within the manual - they're easily panicked by the unpredictable. the big hope for england, as you infer, duke, is the poor form of the usual suspects.

message 742: by Rob (new)

Rob Campbell | 477 comments DIdn't realise there was a World Cup discussion going on here. Feeling pretty smug now as I'd been telling everyone how Germany wouldn't win - based on the "you generally don't win two on the row rule" and the fact that the coach must have lost the plot leaving Leroy Sane out.

Had a fiver on each of Spain and Brazil and I'm still happy with that but if England were to advance I'll be right behind them. We haven't played anybody decent yet so I'm not getting carried away like the muppets in the media. Still, six goals against anybody in the World Cup is impressive.

message 743: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments the eventual winners haven't jumped out yet, so as far as i can see, it might as well be england (remember, rob, i subscribe to A.B.E.!), if they as a group of relatively young talented players can take on the mantle of wanting to win, rather than playing not to lose, then why not? it'll make me miserable, but why not!
there have been fleeting passages of desire shown by the russians, the croatians, the argentinians (when the chips were down), and others that are on the way home, so it's all fairly open i reckon!

If memory serves me, I think Brazil is the only team to win consecutive WC tournaments..but that was quite some while ago now! But yeah..i agree...a team might win the Euro comp and then the WC or vice versa..but not two WC's in a row.

I'm trying to work out which teams look strong currently, for the 8. So far, I've come up with; Portugal, Argentina, Spain, Croatia, Brazil, Sweden (maybe Switzerland, but not convinced) Belgium, England. I don't think the others have enough going for them, but i'm sure i'll be surprised. I wonder how England will fair against Japan, if we end up playing them next?

What the feeling on Japan's performance so far, this year? They've done well to get through the group matches, but I can't see them progressing much further myself.

message 745: by Tim (new)

Tim Franklin | 10981 comments Four of the last five winners have been dumped out in the group stage at the following WC; France in 2002, Italy in 2010, Spain in 2014 and now Germany. The only exception was Brazil in 2006, but they only managed to stagger to the quarter finals.

message 746: by Sj (new)

Sj Brooke | 2523 comments In previous World Cups, when it came to the knock out stages,
Germany were always the team in the way, waiting to 'do a number on' and K.O. the flair nations in their half of the draw!
Brazil were most impressive last night.. completely destroying a very good Serbia side.
Germany would normally been the team to avoid, I reckon Brazil are now the ones to avoid.(fairly obvs. I know) :)

Russia were very good against two poor teams (Salah being not fully recovered from being brutalised by Sergio Ramos in the champions league final; Ramos also concussed Liverpool's keeper - a plan? Surely not), but fell apart against Uruguay.

message 750: by Blastronaut (new)

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Dunno about France Duke, they've not exactly been on it but the individual talent in that team is phenomenal. If they do start to get it together, they'll take some stopping. As things stand at the moment Brazil are indeed looking pretty good - Coutinho's an absolute master and if Neymar and Jesus get their sheet together... be mad to bet against em.
