Craig White | 6727 comments the man's a saint! what chance do i got in the final punt with this good samaritan? he's like jeebus in fitba' bits, spreading love and forgiveness all around, whilst the hordes of devotees throw scented rose petals in his path, and chant great tributes in song that he may hear the word of his great deeds and love for all humanity!

well, by 4:50pm, sunday, (inc. time added on!) i'll have eaten his heart.................................................................................................raw! :)

Well, it went down to the wire but after leading for many weeks Tech was overhauled at the finishing post by Sussex.
Commiseration go to Tech and I guess, congratulations to Sussex.
Still, Killie did a lot better than you expected this season :-).
Lez claimed third place. Her score of 9 was enough to put her clear of Val and Philip. Well played, Lez.

David was way out on his own this week with an excellent score of 18.
TheFoe finished the season nicely with 12.
Sussex was next with 11, a score which proved to be just enough.

Thanks to everyone for participating this season and it was nice to "see" a new face, Graeme, join us.
I hope to see you all back, raring to go, for 2018-19 and some additional new players would be very welcome.

Craig White | 6727 comments congratulations and well played, sussex (ya bastard! :)) that's what i get for gung ho recklessness! it's been emotional!

thanks for your time and patience in running this - i'll be back next season after a complete overhaul of the managerial and coaching staff! :)

message 657: by Philip (new)

Philip | 494 comments Well done Sussex and thanks once again for all your work this season.

Your epic contest with Tech made it a genuine Super Sunday unlike the football on the day itself. Apart of course from the feast of defensive prowess served up at Wembley between your team and mine.

It was astounding for its ineptness!! :-)

Val H. | 22293 comments A big thank-you from me too Sussex. It's always fun to have a go even though I don't really follow the Premier League day to day. I was quietly pleased with my showing this year. Next season will probably be all doom and gloom (for me) but I WILL be there! Enjoy your break.

message 660: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments Congrats Sussex and tech. Enormous thanks to Sussex for your hard work and your patience with my occasional ineptitude!
I was watching ‘Pointless’ the other day and the task was to name any teams in the Premiership. I was surprised and delighted to find my memory hasn’t entirely failed as I got all of them, purely through this game. 😃⚽️

message 661: by TheFoe (new)

TheFoe | 2648 comments Congratulations Sussex! Thanks a lot for running this punt, it's been fun even though I finished near the bottom. Commiserations to the Man Utd of football punting, Tech, you put up an epic battle with Sussex and it made playing this even more interesting! :-)

message 662: by theDuke (new)

theDuke | 6506 comments My gratitude to Sussex for all your sterling efforts in running this thread....and congratulations on your win too! Hard luck to Tech, just pipped at the final post! :)

For another that also doesn't follow the footy, I think I can be happy with my final mid ladder placing...roll on the Autumn..and start all over again! :)

Cheers Sussex!

message 663: by David (new)

David Endersby (davidendersby) | 480 comments Thanks, Sussex for all your hard work and well done for coming out on top. Hard luck Tech. At least I managed to finish well. Already looking forward to next season

message 664: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Moore | 234 comments Personally i think that's a fix..........how on earth have we ended up with Sussex as a winner!? I demand an independent review! :)

In all seriousness, congrats to Sussex and thanks for running this throughout the season. I've enjoyed the competition and alongside the dreams, fantasy leagues and predictions this has been something different.

Thanks for having me and looking forward to next season already.

Have a good summer everyone and UP THE SPURS!

Craig White | 6727 comments casual prophesies,

celtic 1 motherwell 3 - at least one sent off for both teams.

chelsea 1 man utd 2 - man u, boss possession, make things difficult for themselves, poss extra time played.

Hmm, I reckon it will start with an early Utd goal and then they'll defend with 11 men for the remainder of the match. I don't know what will be more of a yawn fest, this likely to be uninspiring cup final or the royal wedding. Wake me up when it's over.

Since the Championship season finished, I've really wanted Fulham to join Cardiff and Wolves in the promoted teams. However, a loss to Aston Villa could see both Sessengon twin brothers, Ryan and Steven, possibly leave Fulham to join Spurs, a prospect that excites me a lot!

message 671: by TheFoe (new)

TheFoe | 2648 comments And this is why I suck at the football punt! ☹

message 672: by Lez (last edited May 19, 2018 12:37PM) (new)

Lez | 7490 comments I found myself looking for the Premiership results at 5.00pm.
What an idiot 😟

message 673: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments ........that was the sound of everyone arguing with you, les! :)

foe - and why i never go to the bookies! :)

however, both games were utter shight! poor end of season showcases!

message 674: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22293 comments Can I be cheeky and ask whether we're having a fun punt on the World Cup? I'm sure we've done it in past years under MC's capable guidance. I'd run it myself if I had any clue about how to go about it. Do we just pick one team from each group? Do only the successful punters go forward to the round of 16?

There is at least one online predictor

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/...

but it seems you have to register to be in it and I'm not all that keen to do that.

message 675: by theDuke (new)

theDuke | 6506 comments I guess we could put our punts for the top two teams in each group to go forward, and then take it from there, something like that.....when does the WC start anyway?

I recall there was a punt game for the last Euro cup, can't remember how it played though.

message 676: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments oh, is there a world cup on soon? I hadn't noticed, Scotland must not be in it (that's why we're playing pointless matches in south America)!

is there any reason England won't win the world cup? I have to be honest, and with the talent they have at their disposal, I can think of nothing to suggest they won't - except, surer than sh*t, they won't!

A.B.E.! :)

message 677: by theDuke (new)

theDuke | 6506 comments Word has it, the England team this year, is pretty good Tech. Possibly one of the top 4 teams in this comp...so dunno..maybe they'll make it to the semis perhaps?

message 678: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments on paper England could win it, no question! but it's almost guaranteed that they'll shoot themselves in the foot (perhaps with Raheem sterling's 'assault rifle' - what was he doing against Nigeria? diving for cover?) and at least one team member will disgrace themselves (likely candidate, see above!)

.......here's hoping anyway! :)

message 679: by theDuke (last edited Jun 03, 2018 12:09PM) (new)

theDuke | 6506 comments Is that Portuguese player Ronaldo still out? I heard he was recovering from an injury of some sort. I'd be happy if doesn't show up at all in this year's WC...a great player on the pitch, he may be, but an utter C**K off the pitch, he most definitely IS!

message 680: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments no idea, duke, could be he ruptured his 'jealousy gland' when gareth bale stole his thunder in the champion's league final? :)

Seriously recommend you watch it on i-player Tech, you won't be disappointed.... unlike watching Killie next season, boom! ;-)

message 685: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments careful, foe, careful - all it would take would be celtic disqualified from champion's league for registration offences, rangers to go out of business (again), aberdeen to quit football to return to their first love (sh***sh*****'), hibs to choose life, three arduous qualifying rounds, and the luck of the draw, for killie to end up in the same champion's league group as spurs - so BE WARNED!!!! :)

message 686: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments On the way to a hospital appointment yesterday we passed Falkirk’s ground. They have fancy billboards advertising their new sponsor. Unfortunately they are completely obscured by large trees in full leaf so they will remain unseen till Winter!

theDuke | 6506 comments TheFoe wrote: "Yep! Won't be any suprises tomorrow at 7pm though when we stuff Tunisia 3.0 COYE!!"

I heard that Tunisia were a few players short this year, with a couple out with injuries...so they've managed to 'borrow' some from France!!

That can't be allowed, surely?!

message 697: by theDuke (last edited Jun 17, 2018 01:12PM) (new)

theDuke | 6506 comments I'm liking this World Cup so far...so many of the big guns are struggling to win their opening games. Even Brazil couldn't win theirs. Mind you..don't like the way the Swiss play...some very dirty tactics being employed by them...and poor ol Naymer...how many times was he yanked down??!! The guy clearly getting really PO'd towards the end of the match!

message 698: by theDuke (last edited Jun 17, 2018 01:16PM) (new)

theDuke | 6506 comments I'm taking a new stance with England....the hype has been considerably 'subdued' this year...so just so I don't get disappointed...(yet again!) i'm not expecting anything amazing to come the England squad...if they get a draw..that'll suffice for me, but they ought to win this one..yea?

It's Belgium that is the real concern.

message 699: by TheFoe (last edited Jun 18, 2018 12:47AM) (new)

TheFoe | 2648 comments First I've heard about the Tunisia/France connection Duke, not sure how that works.

I thought Naymer went down too easily on a number of occassions and then did a few barrel rolls to top it off. Not saying he wasn't fouled a lot but he certainly made the most of it! Gutted I'm going to miss the Panama/Belgium match this afternoon and the Sweden/South Korea too. If you're talking hard tackles/cheating look no further than South Korea, they're pretty mad.

Lez | 7490 comments Found this about Tunisia:

From ‘The Denver Post’

“TUNIS, Tunisia — Tunisia will be fielding a team at the World Cup of several foreign-born players after creative forward Youssef Msakni was sidelined with injury.
Msakni carried the team to its fifth World Cup, and had a hat trick in the penultimate qualifier in Guinea, but he injured his knee while playing for his Qatari club. So Tunisia coach Nabil Maaloul is expected to rely on foreign-born players in a move that could unsettle a team that went unbeaten in qualifying.
Tunisia’s squad is a mix of players mainly from the Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, France and domestic leagues.”
