It took us a while, but we got through it all and the results are posted here

I don't know if i'm adding all the points up wrong but shouldn't my team (Clint Eastwood) have gotten 235 points instead of 225?

message 303: by Karla (new)

Karla We had the same problem on Team The Bad Gibbon. We should have 365, not 355. I've added the numbers at least five times, to see if I was wrong.

Stephanie - there was one book that wasn't able to be submitted as it is a children's book that didn't meet the word count. I've let Logan know this in the captains group, but I'm not sure that she is awake yet

Karla - I've fixed yours up ;)

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments can i ask what book it was?

Sure - The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe which is 36,363 words. (needs to be 40,000). There was also a book which was #5 in that series, but it met the word count at around 50,000 words

message 310: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn I'm sorry, I couldn't figure out how those websites give you word counts! Can you please let me know if Artemis Fowl is long enough?

message 311: by Karen ⊰✿, Fiction Aficionado (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 16606 comments Mod
I thought I responded to this Jaclyn, but it must have been on a different thread, sorry. Artemis Fowl is ok (about 56,000 words)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6415 comments Just a quick question about using the first letter of the name of the series. For Example, the In Death series by J D Robb. If you read several books in the series, can the I be counted each time or only the first time in that week?

Thanks.

message 313: by Turtlecollector Dennis (last edited Jul 21, 2014 04:47PM) (new)

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I think you should be able to use it for each book since each book is a separate entry in the spell out. I read 2 of them last week and they both counted.

Yes you are correct TC, thanks!

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6415 comments That helps a lot. Thanks TC and Karen.

Marla | 1804 comments I have not figured out how to find a word count or page count for children's books. Can you tell me if Up a Road Slowly by Irene Hunt by Irene Hunt or A Wizard of Earthsea (Earthsea Cycle, #1) by Ursula K. Le Guin by Ursula Le Guin are okay? Of course, Le Guin is more YA than children's.

message 317: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Up a Road Slowly says Paperback, 208 pages so I think you'd be fine.

A Wizard of Earthsea says Paperback, 183 pages.

I'm guessing it's acceptable to use the paperback version even if you're reading on an e-reader.

message 318: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 28, 2014 02:13PM) (new)

This is a good site for finding the word count of books. You need to click on the book title to find the word count.

www.arbookfind.com/default.aspx

Both books show up as having more than 50,000 words so should be ok.

message 319: by Rebecca NJ (last edited Jul 28, 2014 02:14PM) (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments Up a Road Slowly is 50,588 words

A Wizard of Earthsea is 56,533 words.

Source: AR Bookfinder

I believe 50,000 words is still the cutoff so you should be okay. (EDIT - 40,000 words seems to be the cutoff)

Christine (inhalesbookslikepopcorn) | 1052 comments Hi, sorry, where do you get the word count? e.g. I read Earthsea Cycle #2 Tombs of Atuan, it's listed with Paperback 180pg. Where can I see that it has over 40,000 words?

Forget what I said, I read over click on the title *lol* mine has 45939 words so must be ok.

One of the sites is AR Bookfinder, and that book is 45,939 words so it is fine :)

message 324: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Moore (asomedayrelic) Is it too late to hop in here and be assigned to a team? If not, I would really like to join.
I read on average 70 books a year.
I live in the U.S.
And I suppose I would name the shelf WheelAThon.
Thanks so much :)

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I was wondering if the countdown clock for week 4 has been posted yet?

message 330: by Renee (new)

Renee (reneeconoulty) | 3309 comments Nope....sorry...Karen is away and I haven't got back to that one yet after the crazy weekend. Same time as usual. I will try to figure out how to post it soon.
:) I'm on a fast learning curve here since I became a mod. I had never even posted a picture before, let alone all this other stuff I've learnt!

message 331: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) I've got a question. Will the challenge end this week since several teams will get past the 2000 points? I've also seen it mentioned that we are going until the end of August, but not officially. Which is it?

message 332: by Karen ⊰✿, Fiction Aficionado (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 16606 comments Mod
We have been discussing this in the Captains group and it looks like the consensus is to go until the end of August. So two more weeks!

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments The weekly results are the same as last week

message 335: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments I have a question.

I have a book that I thought to be only 93 pages according to GR, but when I check Amazon.com it says it 200 pages. So which one of them will count?

message 336: by Lindy (new)

Lindy (lindylee) Have you looked to see how many pages in the book, different editions are differetn, ie paper, hard cover, large print

message 337: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments I have the kindle version, but according to Amazon, the 200 pages is taken from the print version.

message 338: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Anita wrote: "I have the kindle version, but according to Amazon, the 200 pages is taken from the print version."

I would look at the paperback or hardcover version on goodreads and see what the page count is. I've noticed sometimes goodreads has odd values for pagecounts of ebooks.

You could also go to one of the wordcount sites that were mentioned above and do it off of wordcount.

message 339: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments The other version on GR shows 200 pages, so I figure it would count as a book?

message 340: by Rebecca NJ (new)

Rebecca NJ (njreader) | 2120 comments Anita wrote: "The other version on GR shows 200 pages, so I figure it would count as a book?"

If you post what book it is, the mods can try to find a word count or confirm the page count on other sources.

message 345: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments Can I check if Secrets on the Sand (The Billionaires of Barefoot Bay, #1) by Roxanne St. Claire meets the minimum page count? Amazon.com says the length is 198 pages.

Vi wrote: "Can I check if Secrets on the Sand (The Billionaires of Barefoot Bay, #1) by Roxanne St. Claire meets the minimum page count? Amazon.com says the length is 198 pages."

I can't find a verified source, so I'm ok to use Amazon's page count and classify this as counting towards this challenge

message 347: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments Yeah, I tried finding a word count but I'm not able to either. Thanks, Karen!

message 348: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments What if the characters full name is mentioned a few times, would the middle count then. I'm only 20% into a book and one of the main character's names has already been given as Gabriel Ross Sullivan a few times. Can it still count for R?

message 349: by Karen ⊰✿, Fiction Aficionado (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 16606 comments Mod
No, sorry, we aren't counting middle names

message 350: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Karen, I didn't see a feedback thread so I'll post here. I really enjoyed this challenge and my team. I hope you host this again. I'll be first to sign up. Thanks.
