Haha!!! I was napping and I'm not even sorry! Hehe! I'm feeling better every day, but I still get sleepy mid-day and need a nap. I figure I'll give that up in about ... hmmmm ... well, when I'm forced to. Yeah, that sounds about right. ; )
I'm off to find a book!

Ohhhh....I feel for you. I haven't forgotten and it's just awful, especially between 2 and 5. I don't mind a partly cloudy day, but grey just because ... yuck.
It's finally starting to cool off here, thankfully. The humidity has been so hard on my eldest horse that it's been a constant battle all summer to keep her weight up. She's perked up a bit now that the heat index isn't 113F. I'm praying for a looooooong fall so she can gain back some of her weight before winter sets in. We had some seriously close calls this year.

SO, a little more feed than exercise is the ticket, ehh???

Weeeelllll.....I think a time machine would be better. LOL! She was spectacular in her day (she still has a sharp mind), which is why we are giving her as much time as we can. She's almost 28 and has been in retirement for 3 years. She also has a leaky heart valve which complicates things when the weather gets extreme.
We were talking with the vet last week about her diet. I hadn't thought about it before, but for the money we spend to feed her, we could feed at least two more young horses. I'm definitely sold on the Appaloosa breed though. They can be stubborn as heck, but once you bond with them, they will do anything for you. Oh, the stories I could tell!

My Review :
Destined for an Early Grave is the 4th book in Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress Series, an Urban Fantasy / Paranormal Romance series between master vampire, Bones, and half human/half vampire, Cat. In this book, the honeymoon is officially over when Cat's repetitive nightmares take a shocking turn toward reality.
During these nightmares, Cat is being chased by a monster. This monster claims to be her true husband. When she wakes, she cannot remember any important details, such as his name or what he looks like, but she knows something is very, very wrong when this "nightmare husband" begins to have small influences on her daily behavior. Then Mencheres makes an unannounced visit, confirming Cat's worst fears ... something is very, very wrong. Bones and Cat will have to fight - in ways they never expected - to stay together as man and wife. Can they stay together without causing a war ... or will they kill themselves in the process of trying to stop the baddie behind this scheme?
It's been awhile since I read from this series and I always wonder why I wait so long between books. These stories are always entertaining and fast paced. They start out with a fantastic hook, usually with the very first line or chapter. My only complaint is a personal preference issue, so by all means don't let this stop you from reading the book. Sometimes I think the humor gets a bit crude and it is definitely for adults, but it can also be absolutely hilarious. My favorite thing about Ms. Frost's writing is how she sticks to her plot and keeps the pace moving. She knows exactly when to have down time for the characters and when to throw in a ghoul attack. Her action scenes are so visual that they run like a movie in my mind. The relationship between Bones and Cat is enjoyable, although there is a lot of arguing in this installment, but it does fit the plot. Each book shows significant character growth, especially as far as Cat is concerned.
There are significant surprises in this book that make me want to rush out and pick up the next installment. Overall, this book is another great addition to the series. If you're a fan of Urban Fantasy and/or Paranormal Romance, you should definitely put the Night Huntress Series on your 'to read' list!"

Love horses!! How many do you have? My daughter would be in heaven... She took lessons for a couple of years and thoroughly enjoyed them. Are they all appaloosas?
I really cooled off here. I took the pup for a walk tonight and wore a long sleeve tee and it was coooooooold!!! I looked at the temp when I got back and it's down to 55. yeesh!

I don't know why I'm continuing with this series except for I'm so close to the end of the line, I hate to be a quitter at this point. The last book I read was non-stop sex... Seriously - NO PLOT. This one at least had a plot.. mostly. And then the sex, but it was a secondary "plot" if it can be called that and not the sole focus... pretty much.. As far as I know, there's only one more book in the series and then I'm done. (Because I'm not going to even pay attention to any new releases.) Anyway, we got to learn a little bit more about the dynamics between all of the different types of shifters. Anita was trying to find another female to add to their orgy pack. Anita got to go jewelry shopping for her new engagement ring. And we got to learn about zombie rot. :) Even if I was disappointed in the story line, I'm just glad that I've gotten to know the characters and many have grown on me.

We just have the two horses. Both are mares, but the youngest is a Thoroughbred that was given to us as a rescue project when she was six months old. My Appaloosa is the one my son rode when their team won the Youth National Championship, twice. Our TB was too young to be ridden, but now she has parade, trail, and drill team experience, too.
Did your kids ride western or English? They have drill teams for both divisions, but we've always ridden western. One of these days I want to invest in a side saddle and take lessons. There is a side-saddle drill team that rides gaited horses and they are gorgeous to watch. I have a friend who says it's really comfortable to ride that way and it feels just as secure once you get the feel of the saddle. I figured if I can get on my horse in a Victorian gown astride, side-saddle, would be a breeze. LOL!
I'm hoping my grandkids will get involved in another year or two. Three is a good age to start teaching them. It's such a great hobby for kids and they learn so much... responsibility, teamwork, patience, and confidence ... plus the bond they make with their horse is unlike anything else. It's a lot of work, too. We spent many summers hauling horses all over the state for rodeo performances and getting up at 3:00AM to meet the team and convoy six hours to Texas before the heat became unbearable in the trailers. We usually borrowed a horse for my son to ride when both of us had to be in the same parade, but it was all worth it. We made lots of memories together.

What an excitingly imaginative re-write of history, attributing the dark ages and the renaissance to the persecution and coming-out of the paranormal. And I was surprised to learn when clicking on unknown-to-me terms, that story elements that appear "steam punk-ish" such as flying derigibiles, were actually true to the times.
Character and world building were excellent, and the editing was very non-distracting ... I'll happily read the next four in this series!

Hi Twist!
Series to Finish would be a series that is not completely read, while a Series Complete is a series that the reader has finished, or read all the way to the last book. They are two separate shelves and you'll find various series book numbers (book 1, 2, 4, etc.) on each.

Have you read the four "Finishing School"'s yet? They are a 'set-before written-after' series to the "Parasol's with some of the same characters in younger form. They flesh out the world and milieu nicely, and IMHO could be better read first. That's why I read "Soulless" for the challenge, then started at the beginning and will read thru to the end of things (so far) with this shelf ...
... love the multi-generational aspect ...

Book: Infini
Author: Krista Ritchie
How it Fits: Page 7 | Shelved 2x as Spin-off
Series: Aerial Ethereal
Read: 9/15
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Review:
Each of the books in this Aerial Ethereal can be read as a stand-a-lone, which is my kind of series since I usually forget what the previous book is about by the time they release the next book! Anyway, I have read all of Krista Ritchie's Addicted & Callaway Sisters books and looooooooved them. When she released this new series, it was so totally different, I wasn't sure what to think. Book 1, Amour Amour, did not disappoint and it consumed me as the others have. So I'm not sure if my expectations were set too high but this book felt flat to me. Aerial Ethereal follows the people working in a Vegas acrobatic show so there's a tight knit group of young adults under a lot of stress to make this show succeed.. perfect setting for a book with lots of drama and feels. The MC's were all nice enough and it seemed like I should have been able to connect with them more than I did. I felt like I knew how the story would go, but when I get engrossed with the people in a book and all of the "feels", that usually is OK when I enjoy the writing. For some reason I had a hard time keeping my attention on this one. I'll probably read the next one in line since this may be a one off.

You now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'vampires'.

Good Job!! :D

Hi Art!
Sorry I'm so late in getting back to you. It's been a little crazy. I haven't read Finishing School yet, but I'm really looking forward to it. I think we are also going to go back and read the Parasol Protectorate series first. I've read Soulless, but it was in the middle of the WOBBLE challenge and I'm sad to say I don't remember much detail about it.
The Hubster is loving the series, so he's going to read the series along with me. It'll be fun to read it together, even if it slows me down a little because of his schedule. If we get into a BINGO position and one of these books works, I'll just have to re-read it with him for the sake of the team! LOL!

I read Soulless first too, for last week's shelf, then realized what was going on, and did the School (all four) before continuing the Protectorate. I just now finished those five, and am moving on to the next two. I lucked out when I found both series in omnibus editions. One more book to read, and I'll be finally ready to start our book for this week's shelf!!!
LOL

Prim had spent her whole life trailing behind Rue and was unfussed by this role. She had started when they were both in nappies and had never bothered to alter a pattern of some twenty-odd years. Admittedly, these days they both smelled a good deal better.

Aren't they fabulous!? You'll want to skip my review (in fact I'll put it in a spoiler) until you've read Imprudence. I can't wait to start reading the rest of the books!

Rated: ★★★★¾

Review:
This book is why I often wish that I never discovered a new author 'til they had "written themselves out" so to speak. Ms Carriger's take on the importance of the supernatural to the history of both the British Empire and the whole World I find entirely wonderfully original.
She wrote a 5 volume series, then spun off a 4 volume prequel and then began a 4 part followup, each time showing us the formative years of a new group of young people morphing into their adult selves.
In so doing, she spread out her world view over nearly 50 years, and by implyfication, maybe a few thousand. She pushes science and technology actually historically available, mixing it with now-disproven theories to provide a wonderful steampunk milieu.
I knock off 1/4 star because unlike some series writers (JD Robb, for instance, 41 and counting), these books can't quite stand alone... and I HAVE TO WAIT A WHOLE YEAR FOR THE NEXT ONE (grumble, grumble)...

I got sidetracked, watching TV with my sister, googling a few words in the last book, falling into the whirlpool that is youtoob...
anyhow, we're up to date, just in time for today's new shelf, wonder which one will be called................

He's doing TOO WELL I think... He feels so much better he seems to forget he's supposed to be taking it easy for 3-4 weeks. He left for school this afternoon and I'm kind of glad his girlfriend will be there to try to keep him in check. He just turned 21 last week so I'm guessing it will be a full time job.. YIKES!!!
