Wow! Take care of yourself! Follow the doctor's orders. How many times do we say that and don't do it ourselves? Healing energy headed your way.

Book: Smoke & Mirrors by Charlie Cochet
Date Read: 9/5/17
Rating: 4.5 stars
Man, I really loved this one! This one picks up right where book 6 left off. Dex has been kidnapped and we start with a torture scene. Yikes! There were so many secrets exposed and we finally got some of those answers we've been waiting on. Of course, now there are new questions! I knew what was going on with Dex and now it's been confirmed. I don't want to say too much because it's very spoilery but the series is heading in a new direction now and I'm really looking forward to this part!

Nurses make some of the worst patients. Thanks Cheryl!

Take care of yourself, Elaine.
I am going to read

Thanks :D

Looks like a good series, Nichole. I'll have to check it out.
Hope you feel better soon, Elaine!
For vampires, I'll probably read

Book: The Darkest Kiss by Gena Showalter
Pages: 368
Qualifies: page 12 of the list
Date: 9/9/17
Rating: 4 stars
Review: Well, I didn't get Six of Crows read as I couldn't quite get into the book. It wasn't bad...more a case of not for me at this time. I have spent all week congested and coughing which meant I just wanted something to read that didn't take a lot of brain power. Darkest Kiss hit the spot--it was quick to pull me into its world and I read it in one sitting with breaks only for more meds. I very much enjoyed Anya and Lucian and their ridiculously complicated courtship. Every time it seemed like they might catch a small break, something would come along to further complicate their hopes of ever being together. Gena Showalter has no problem putting her characters through the ringer! And the glimpse we got into some other characters' lives were intriguing...particularly Paris! I believe that Reyes is next and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.

I finished The Lost Vampire and will post my review shortly.
Hope everyone's doing well and enjoying their reads. :)

The Lost Vampire by Kate Baxter
Series: Last True Vampire #5
Shelf: vampires
Read: 9 Sept
Rating: ✮✮✮☆☆
Review:
The Lost Vampire tells Saeed's story. He's lived a very long life, millennia, initially as a dhamphir more recently as one of a handful of vampires. Upon losing his soul (as all newly turned, untethered - unmated - vampires do), he lost himself to the Collective. Through the memories of vampires long since dead, the Collective had shown him the female that would tether his soul. He passes his job as a dhamphir coven leader off to two of his trusted friends (newly turned Sasha and Diego) so that he can search for ... the fae with hair like fire. Saeed is convinced Cerys Bain is his mate and will tether his soul. He has no idea where to find her, but that doesn't stop him. What might ... Cerys is under the command and the property of a mage, Rinieri (Rin) de Rege.
Saeed lived in dreams. Cerys had stopped dreaming a long time ago.Cerys is an enaid dwyn, a soul stealer, whose own soul was taken and is held by Rin. How will one without a soul tether another? Saeed isn't certain, but once he finds Cerys he's unwilling to let her go. I was disappointed by (view spoiler)
There are several different story arcs in the series, therefore I recommend reading the books in order. This installment didn't change much of the bigger picture, but I suspect we'll see more action soon. There was a bit about Siobhan/Christopher, an interesting interaction with Ian Gregor but not much with Mikhail and other vampires or McAlister/the Sortiari.
Sasha Ivanov, Saeed's friend left in co-charge of the dhampir coven and Ewan, a berserker, are up next in The Wicked Vampire.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Series: Night Huntress #2
Shelf: Vampires
Read: 12 September
Rating: ✮✮✮
Fast forward a few years. Cat is now special-agent Cat and Bones is still Bones. I really do enjoy the Cat-Bones relationship--all parts of the relationship, but I was a bit shocked--call me a prude if you'd like--at how much, as Kat Kennedy calls it, buttsecks, there is in this book. A little less of that and more story, and the book would have been a 4-star read for me.
Regardless, the Cat-Bones coupling is becoming a favorite and I hope the other books in the series are a bit heavier on the plot portion of the story--but take too much of the romance away and I would be sad, too. Balance. That's the word I'm looking for. Balance it out just a bit.

I'll get us updated tonight and have my review. Sorry that I've been awol lately. I'm hoping things will settle down now...*crosses fingers*

For spin-off, I'm thinking:

Book: Dark Heir by Faith Hunter
Date Read: 9/12/17
Rating: 4.5 stars
This series truly does get better with each book, in my opinion. It has so much going for it and I can't help but love it. As the Enforcer to Clan Pellissier (Leo), Jane is caught up in the vampire political shit storms that are continuously brewing. This time she is tasked with finding a very old and powerful witch vampire that has escaped captivity. Of course there is always more to it than just capturing a rogue vampire and she is always left in the dark until it's almost too late! **eyeballing LEO, Sabina, Bethany**
As usual, this book is action packed! So much going on. Jane gets hurt really bad, again this is not new, but I was really worried for a bit there! This time it was a magical attack and it was freaky. She also officially claims her boys as Family and that was just so sweet. Her and Bruiser have some quality time *Bow chicka wow wow* and her and Molly have some heated moments. One of my favorite things about this series is the Cherokee background and bits of information we get. I'm part Cherokee (teeny tiny bit) but I've never delved into the culture. Jane makes me want to learn about it!

I'm the same way! IAD, Elemental Assassin, Jane Yellowrock, Harry Dresden, Molly Harper books and so on!

Absolutely!
I prefer listening to: Half-Moon Hollow, Alex Verus, Benny Imura & Joe Ledger, Ward's BDB, KMM's Fever, Immortal Guardians, Cole's IAD, Kitty Norville and Midnight Breed. :D
Hope you enjoy Nell in Faith's Soulwood spin-off; I love that series!

Review: Silly at best, stupid at times...this book was not really my cup of tea. And yet, there was almost something good here that I would have really enjoyed. The first chapter or two were good. I was getting a good vibe and then Rachel was turned and Etienne devolved into a fool. The major conflict of Pudge was also rather ridiculously farcical. This will not be my last try at this series but this particular book was a serious letdown.

Let me get us updated!

Broken Compass by Jaymin Eve
Series: Supernatural Prison Story #1
Shelf: Spin-off
Read: 16 Sept
Rating: ✮✮✮☆☆
Review:
Broken Compass is the first in a spin-off of Eve's Supernatural Prison where the focus switches to one of the Compass quads (four brothers, each a different type of supernatural). This installment is about Maximus, who is a vampire. Book two, Magical Compass - A Supernatural Prison Story, will feature Tyson, the wizard.
Eve notes this series can be read without having previously read her Supernatural Prison trilogy. However, events from the finale carried over into this installment, so I would recommend reading the trilogy first if you'd like the full background/history between the book's couple. That said, Eve does provide readers with bits and pieces should you choose to skip the trilogy.
I had high hopes for this - a bit too high, as it turned out. The story is told in alternating POVs - Maximus and Mischa. Mischa has a secret, (view spoiler) Having grown up among humans not knowing she's a shifter, Mischa had a difficult time adjusting to her new life. She's now allowing herself to embrace her nature and accept the love of her pack. What she's still fighting are her feelings for Max.
Max has run off after suffering a loss, (view spoiler) He finds himself thinking of his night with Mischa while hating himself for thinking of another despite his loss.
The baddie carries over from the trilogy finale (Dragon Mated) and he offers up some information that answers questions related to this pair's HEA and potentially that of his brothers, too.
Unfortunately, in spite of the revelations and the HEA, I just didn't feel anything for these two. I liked Max in the trilogy, but not so much in this installment. Mischa was never my favorite and, while Eve did try to smooth out the things that made her unappealing in the other books, she still isn't. But, there are two other brothers to get a HEA, as well as mega wizard Louis. So, I'll be sticking with the series.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Damn, I rambled a bit in that review. :p Sorry."
Well, it piqued my interest enough to look up the original series :) And you gave that one 5 stars!
I finished my book last night and will have my review in after work today!

I am going to read

Book: Blood of the Earth by Faith Hunter
Date Read: 9/18/17
Rating: 4.5 stars!
Wow! What a lovely surprise. Well, not really because I do love Jane, so I was bound to love this series as well. However, I was hesitant to start it because of "He Who Shall Not Be Named" as I'm sure most people are. I shouldn't have worried though! While HWSNBN was a major player in this series, it was strictly on a professional level and I could deal with it. It didn't hurt to see that his life wasn't all peaches too **evil cackle**
This series is all about Nell though. I made sure to read the novella that introduces Nell and I'm so glad I did because events and people are referred to here more than once. I don't think you HAVE to read it but it helps lay the foundation. You see, Nell is something other. She's not exactly a witch, although that's the closest thing to describe her. Something of a wood witch or wood nymph, maybe?? It's unclear at this point. She is connected to her land and has an affinity for it. She can feel/sense things on her property and the land responds to her but not without a price.
When girls start disappearing, she gets some visitors to her property. Rick and PsyLED crew come to her to try and find some answers . She grew up in a remote village of religious fanatics and may have some intel to help their investigation. The "Church" has their own way of life and live by a different set of rules. She left the Church years ago but her family still remains. When some nasty Church boys come sniffing around her property trying to nab her, she gets pulled even deeper into the investigation. Nell isn't used to working with other people and there is definitely some head butting that happens. Mostly with "you know who".
I just really enjoyed this! Nell was awesome. She put those city boys and girls in their place with her deductive reasoning! She wasn't just some country bumpkin that couldn't figure things out. Take that! And of course, I'm a fan of the possible romance that seems to be blooming with a certain cat :) Can't wait to start the next one!

Book: Croc's Return by Eve Langlais
Date: 9-19-17
Rating: 3 and 1/2 stars (maybe even 4)
Review: I enjoyed this book and it was really shaping up to be a 4-star read until about the middle when I realized I had actually read this before...and in my mind, fairly or not, the fact that it took me that long to realize it wasn't a new read was enough of a reason to knock this down to three stars. It's a 2015 release so I couldn't have read it that long ago...
The story itself is pretty good...a crazy swamp monster thing is coming out of the bayou and getting everything all stirred up (for good reason). The second chance romance is well done overall. Its an Eve Langlais so there are fun sexy times and lots of crazy dialogue that is genuinely funny and not stupid-funny. I don't think anyone else could have written this story and hit the just-right balance like she did...and now that I am thinking about all the things I like, I am going to add back a half star. Or maybe the whole dang thing...only Eve can get me going in circles like this!
