Barbara, here's what I found on page 111:

#1 natural - 1) of, from, or by, birth; innate; inborn 2) in accordance with human nature
#11 necessary - 1) impossible to be otherwise, or to be done without; indispensable 2) not to be avoided; inevitable 3) acting from necessity or compulsion; involuntary

Do any of those words strike your fancy?

OK, I just read Penric’s Mission by Lois McMaster Bujold, and Penric is the current custodian of a "demon" which has been handed down ten times from person to person.

Ha, I didn't even notice that I used the word "current" although not in one of the definitions provided.

Beth, Lois McMaster Bujold is one of my favorite authors. I just love the Vorkosigan series!

Here's what I found on page 62:

#15 exaggerate - to enlarge beyond the truth; overstate
#17 exasperate - 1) to excite the anger of; irritate 2) to aggravate

Cell by Stephen King
Cell by Stephen King, read 8/17, 5 stars
In this story, the majority of the human race are turned into phone-crazies. As the story progresses, one of these people, sometimes referred to as the Harvard president because of his Harvard hoodie, herds the survivors and the phone crazies to a place where there is no cellphone coverage.

Your next definitions are:

#23 abstain - to do without or give up voluntarily; refrain
#25 abstract - 1) considered apart from any object; as, abstract numbers. Hence: Abstruse; difficult; as an abstract thought 2) expressing a quality apart from any particular subject

abstract's definition is rather abstract. Here's another version I found: 1) existing in thought or as an idea but not having a physical or concrete existence; theoretical
2) extract or remove (something)

These seem rather tough but I'm pretty sure I'll still be able to find something. From the top of my head I thought anything with a gun wound could do for #20 and almost anything serial killer for #18 and perhaps something about patchwork/quilting or most of the historical fiction for #7 (they used much much cotton fabric - especially the settlers). Thinking about it I could imagine The Vigilante's Bride by Yvonne Harris could work for two if not even all three and I had this one for more than one year on my soon-TBR-mental-shelf :-)

I totally forgot to come back and update! I finally read Hood's Obsession (Kingdom, #9) by Marie Hall Hood's Obsession for this, finishing it on the 12th. I found it fit for Folklore in a couple of ways. First, it was a fairy tale retelling, which are closely intertwined with Folklore, as the main characters had ties to Rumpelstiltskin, Little Red Riding Hood, and Werewolves. Secondly, the story itself made references to folklore specific to the regions of Kingdom that they were traveling in on their quest.

#14 hardship - that which is hard to bear, as privation, injury, etc.
#23 haste - 1) quickness of motion; swiftness 2) undue celerity; hurry

hardship has me thinking about the general nature of stories. Most of them are about how the main character struggles for whatever reason. Not many books talk about how the main character had an easy time of it.

The first one fits perfect. About one hour ago I started Angels Fall by Nora Roberts and so far both MCs behave rather odd. With the blurb and the first three chapters I imagine we'll get to penance as well. And even if the story isn't set on a peninsula it's set on a lake and a waterfall is central to the story so with a stretch this one could be streched to fit ;-)
