Hi Kait

Thank you for the awesome picks. I am honestly going to get as many done as I can. I requested Rusty Nailed a few weeks ago from the library and I am first on the list to read it when they are finished processing it.

I also plan on getting through Romancing the Duke and Rock Chick (although I'll probably listen to this in audio). Thanks for the great recs!

Wow, we have so much in common it took me a bit to find some "new to you" authors to recommend. I hope you like your picks. :)

Goal Keeper:
1. My favorite author is Jayne Ann Krentz, and she recently started a new series, so here is the first book (although you certainly can't go wrong with her stand alone books from the late 80s and 90s) Copper Beach. Another favorite is Jennifer Crusie and you had one of her best on your TBR - Agnes and the Hitman.
2. These are both new to you. It Takes a Witch by Heather Blake is a paranormal, cozy mystery set in a small town of "crafters". I love the take on magic and the characters are enjoyable. Or check out this cute, short story by Susan Hatler - Love at First Date with a special dash of doggy cuteness.

Copper Beach (Dark Legacy, #1) by Jayne Ann Krentz Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie It Takes a Witch (A Wishcraft Mystery, #1) by Heather Blake Love at First Date (Better Date Than Never #1) by Susan Hatler

Defender:
3. I haven't read either of these, but I've heard the first is good (it even had a board game made based on it) The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett and Nora Roberts usually delivers - The Collector

The Pillars of the Earth (The Pillars of the Earth, #1) by Ken Follett The Collector by Nora Roberts

Midfielder:
4. Women of the Otherworld is a great series, so maybe it is time to check out book 4 with Industrial Magic by Kelley Armstrong and learn more about the cabals when Paige and Lucas investigate. Or check out book 2 in the Lucky Harbor series with The Sweetest Thing by Jill Shalvis
5. I couldn't come up with a good nerdy character, so I'm recommending After Dark by Jayne Castle which takes place in our future on a new planet and has adorable dust bunny pets/protectors. Or look into Sealed with a Curse by Cecy Robson where the main characters are standard paranormals with a twist thrown in.

Industrial Magic (Women of the Otherworld, #4) by Kelley Armstrong The Sweetest Thing (Lucky Harbor, #2) by Jill Shalvis After Dark (Harmony #1) by Jayne Castle Sealed with a Curse (Weird Girls, #1) by Cecy Robson

Forward:
6. Both of these are on the shorter side. Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews is the best book I've read this year. I really like the new take on the paranormal. Lumberjack in Love by Penny Watson is a sweet story.
7. Both these books stood out on your TBR shelf since they are the beginning of great series you need to read. It is imperative you learn about how great Eve and Roarke are together while solving homicides in a slightly futuristic New York City in Naked in Death by J.D. Robb. You also need to see how kick-a$$ Mercy is as a coyote-shifter in a world filled with paranormal beings in Moon Called by Patricia Briggs.

Clean Sweep (Innkeeper Chronicles #1) by Ilona Andrews Lumberjack in Love by Penny Watson Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs

Referee:
8. These were both on your TBR and I consider them classics. Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings starts a grand adventure with iconic type characters. Definitely a classic locked room mystery - And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie.

Pawn of Prophecy (The Belgariad, #1) by David Eddings And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

Christina (christinaovallsbooks) | 384 comments For Sheila

I hope you like the picks that I have for you. They took me a little while longer than normal since you read more mystery than I do. I tend to read a lot of paranormal and urban fantasy books, so there are a few of those as recommendations from me. Here they are:

1. Bed of Roses by Nora Roberts (New). This is a great contemporary romance and my favorite in the series. I noticed that you have read the first but did not continue with the series.
Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews (New). This is an awesome series. It just keeps getting better and better. This is the first in the series since they all kind of build off each other. This is an urban fantasy. The woman in the series is a kick-ass kind of heroine and she is trying to solve the murder of her guardian Greg. Even if you think this first book is just ok, take it from me that the series is awesome. This series is great in audio.
Bed of Roses (Bride Quartet, #2) by Nora Roberts , Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews

2. Report For Murder by Val McDermid (TBR)
Evan Help Us by Rhys Bowen
Report For Murder (Lindsay Gordon, #1) by Val McDermid , Evan Help Us (Constable Evans, #2) by Rhys Bowen

3. Marker by Robin Cook (TBR). This was the longest book on your shelf with 672 pages.
The Vanished Man by Jeffrey Deaver (TBR). While I have not finished any of his books, I know a lot of people love them. This is also a longer book with 560 pages.
Marker (Jack Stapleton & Laurie Montgomery, #5) by Robin Cook , The Vanished Man (Lincoln Rhyme, #5) by Jeffery Deaver

4. Grave Peril by Jim Butcher (TBR)
Hell's Corner by David Baldacci (TBR)
Grave Peril (The Dresden Files, #3) by Jim Butcher , Hell's Corner (Camel Club, #5) by David Baldacci

5. Raphael by D.B. Reynolds (New). The lead female character is definitely a take charge kind of person. I just started reading this one lately and I think you will like it. There is a mystery in the book (kidnapping), but so far no real romance. It appears to be more urban fantasy (vampires).
For a book with a more futuristic side, I recommend Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon (New). This is a great book with mystery and romance.
Also The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey (New). This was a great find for me this year and the book practically blew me away. No real romance in this book. It is a post-apocalyptic kind of book. It was also great in audio.
Raphael (Vampires in America, #1) by D.B. Reynolds , Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon , The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey

6. Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor (New). This is a YA book. Everyone that I have recommended this to has really seemed to love it. It is a long book and very descriptive. If you listen to audiobooks, This one was extremely well done.
Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor ,

7. Fudge Cupcake Murder by Joanna Fluke
Agatha Raisin and the Wellspring of Death by M.C. Beaton. I love the cover of this one.
Fudge Cupcake Murder (Hannah Swensen, #5) by Joanne Fluke , Agatha Raisin and the Wellspring of Death (Agatha Raisin, #7) by M.C. Beaton

8. Hounded by Kevin Hearne (New). I'm really stretching this with this one. I chose it because I honestly think that it should be a classic. It is a fantasy book. The lead character cracks me up and he is able to talk to his dog Oberon.
Ok a real classic - Lord of the Flies by William Golding
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. This is one of the few that I loved that you don't currently have on your list. I'm not a big fan of the classics, so this was a bit hard for me.
Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne , Lord of the Flies by William Golding , The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

Anyway, I'm hoping that you find something that you like.

message 109: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Thanks Christina I see lots there that I like. I especially liked the recs for audio since I probably listen to about 80% of what I read. Thanks.

ps. I know my list wasn't easy since I lean towards far more mystery than romance and probably shouldn't have crashed the party here.

Don't worry about crashing the party. I knew some of the authors that you read/listened to. The only problem for the was that although I did know a lot of them, the ones that I would have recommended were either already on your list or you have already read. I think I finally found someone that reads more than I do. I tried to pick books that I have read that tended more towards mysteries for you. I have a hard time recommending books for people that I have not read before unless they are on their list. I tend to listen to a few in audio each month and I think I listened to the David Baldacci in audio. The only problem that I have with listening to thrillers in audio is that they tend to require more attention than I am willing to give to an audiobook and I had to listen to portions over because I knew that I had missed something.

Besides, it gave me a chance to look at some new books that I don't normally see. :-) Happy reading.

Vi | 2794 comments Hi Mel!

Looks like you've joined GR recently - so welcome! Since you've only rated a few books in your read shelf, it's alittle difficult gauging your taste. I've tried my best to include a mix of picks. So let me know if the picks don't work. I'll try to repick.

Goal Keeper:
1. Recommend a book from one of your go-to author or a comfort read book.
They are my go-to authors and the Howard book is a comfort read. I can pick it up anytime :)
Honest Illusions by Nora Roberts
After the Night by Linda Howard

2. Recommend a book with a colorful cover (atleast 2 different colors)
Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
Something About You by Julie James - A VERY striking cover

Defender:
3. Recommend a longer book from your pickee's TBR
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon - One of the longest on your TBR
The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley - Kearsley in one of my go-to authors and this one is the most popular book of hers

Midfielder:
4. Pick a book that is a next in the series they have already started.
Dreamfever by Karen Marie Moning - You've got to continue with #4 & 5. Things come to a climax here.
Highlander Most Wanted by Maya Banks

5. Recommend a book that is set in the future or a book with a nerdy lead
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline - Nerdy Nerd book
Naked in Death by J.D. Robb - NR's very popular alter name book. It's set in the future with a yummy hero.

Forward:
6. Recommend a book that you've recommended successfully before (i.e one that your pickee has read and liked it. It need not be a PIFM rec)
Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh
Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier - I'd like to think that this my most successful rec ever. Everybody who read this liked it. {And now they're on the bandwagon too. Also, my comfort read.}

7. Pick a book from your pickee's shelf that catches your eye.
I really enjoyed reading these two YA
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles

Referee:
8. Recommend a classic or a book that you think is a classic that your pickee should read.
The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle - Need I say more?
The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer - It's Heyer - almost like mother of the current historical romances. So almost a classic.

Happy Reading, Mel!

Just seeing this! Thanks for the great picks.

So, I'm definitely reading:
The Rosie Project (Don Tillman #1) by Graeme Simsion - You're like the third or the fourth person to rec this. I'd better get started.
Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake (Love By Numbers, #1) by Sarah MacLean - This is the second month in a row that I'm getting this rec. Checking it out at the library.

I'd like to get to the rest too but I'm not sure in what order. Thanks again for the picks (and so quick too)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments I swear Laurla, it literally took me ALL day yesterday to complete your picks and I did actually complete them before I went to bed, lol. Stupid GR decided to shut down on me right in the middle of posting so I lost everything. Let's try this again, but I have to keep it short 'n' sweet since the internet can be kinda sketchy. Just one note...I picked two from your massive (lol!) preferred shelf for each category cuz that's a hella lot of books to own girlfriend! Here we go...

1. Goal Keeper:
Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews
Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale ~ My new "go-to" when I want something unconventional

2. Colorful Goal Keeper:
The Frog Prince by Elle Lothlorien One Reckless Summer (Destiny, #1) by Toni Blake
Remember Me (The Rosewood Trilogy, #1) by Laura Moore ~ Great series that reminded me of Nora Roberts

3. Defender:
The Siren (The Original Sinners, #1) by Tiffany Reisz Son of the Morning by Linda Howard
Making Faces by Amy Harmon ~ Very poetic read, you'll need tissues tho.

4. Midfielder:
Friends Without Benefits (Knitting in the City, #2) by Penny Reid Rock Chick Rescue (Rock Chick, #2) by Kristen Ashley

5. Playmaker:
The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins Beautiful Bastard (Beautiful Bastard, #1) by Christina Lauren (not what I expected)
Beauty And The Geek by Roni Adams ~ Cute read

6. Forward:
Cry No More by Linda Howard Hearts in Darkness by Laura Kaye
Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison ~ I recently re-read this cuz it's that good!

7. Eye Catcher
Midnight Man (Midnight, #1) by Lisa Marie Rice ~ Loved seeing this on your shelf! The Start of Us (No Regrets, #0.5) by Lauren Blakely ~ Great title

8.Referee:
Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon ~ A modern day classic that I will recommend over and over till the day I die.

HAPPY READING!!

Thanks Diane

These look great, I'll read The Collector by Nora Roberts for sure I just picked it up at store on Sunday. I'll also try getting The Sweetest Thing (Lucky Harbor, #2) by Jill Shalvis .

I'll add all the ones I don't have on my TBR list.

Thanks. Please use this shelf: Help Me Decide. Everything on it is fair game, even books marked as "read"

MountainKat | 31575 comments Thanks for the picks Runell, there are several I want to read! I am planning to get to Outlander this summer, and since June is practically over I'll definitely get to that in July! I hope to get to Rusty Nailed and Rock Chick Rescue as well. I will check out the new books and try to get some of them in too, but July is going to be busier than normal for me so hopefully they will work in other challenges!

I've read that To Kill a Mockingbird is finally going to be released as an ebook - yay! Then I will actually be able to read it. The copy I have has print that is too small for me, between bad eyes and allergies I just can't do tiny print anymore. I doubt that will happen in July, but I hope it is soon - that is one classic I would love to read! It was strangely absent in my high school and college classes, read lots of others but not that one.

I saw that too - and the audio is being released at the same time (whispersync compatible) with Sissy Spacek narrating - that could be amazing!

MountainKat | 31575 comments Hi Sandy, here are your picks! I hope you can find something to read because I am giving you lots of options! I am way too tired to eliminate books from my list so I am just going to recommend them all. =)

Goal Keeper:
1. Go To Author:
New to You Author - Something About You by Julie James - love her writing and this book!
To-Read Shelf - Dream a Little Dream or This Heart of Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips - both are special and her books are so good in audio!

2. Colorful Covers:
New to You Authors - In Bed with a Highlander by Maya Banks or Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis - love both books and their series!
Preferred Shelf - Fly Away by Kristin Hannah - I've heard her books are good.
In Bed with a Highlander (McCabe Trilogy, #1) by Maya Banks Simply Irresistible (Lucky Harbor, #1) by Jill Shalvis Fly Away (Firefly Lane, #2) by Kristin Hannah

Defender:
3. Long one off your shelves: Both are from your preferred shelf
The King by J.R. Ward - I thought this was very good!
Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson - I've heard good things about this and really ought to read it someday.

Midfielder:
4. Next in Series: Both from your preferred shelf
Comanche Heart by Catherine Anderson - I loved the first but haven't gone back to read the second - again, I really should!
City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

5. Nerdy/Futuristic: Both from your to-read shelf
The Wicked Deeds of Daniel Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley - love this series and this one was very good!
Holiday in Death by J.D. Robb - how could I not recommend Roarke and Eve for this?! And it looks like you have enjoyed this series too - win, win!

Forward:
6. Books I've Recommended Before: All new to you and all short!
Do Over by Mari Carr - sweet, romantic and hot!
Shaken by Dee Tenorio - so much emotion in such a short story!
Hearts in Darkness by Laura Kaye - wonderful story, but left me wanting more!

7. Eye Catching: Both from your preferred shelf, I haven't read either but they intrigued me - both the covers and the précis
The Island by Elin Hilderbrand
Roses by Leila Meacham

Referee:
8. Classic:
New to You - The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks - the Kelly brothers are classics! This one was emotional and so touching.
Preferred Shelf - Someone to Watch Over Me by Lisa Kleypas - I know many people consider her work classic! I haven't read this one, but I have it to read someday.
Preferred Shelf - The Space Between by Diana Gabaldon - MANY people consider her work classic. I'm going to read my first in July, hopefully I'll agree!

Fingers crossed you like them!

Both Amazon and Audible have it available for pre-order with a release date of July 8. The Whispersync price isn't all that great, but this is one I won't mind paying a credit for!

I just went to look and saw that - thanks for the info! I wouldn't mind using a credit there either, this is one I have wanted to read for a while now! Still don't see myself getting to it in July, not with Outlander and Rock Chick Rescue and the other audiobooks I want to get to - but you never know!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1934 comments Hi Runnell! Sorry I'm late getting this done. My internet has been down at my house and this is the first opportunity I've had to get on B&N wifi. I probably won't get it done tonight. Look for your picks on Friday. I'm off work early and if it's still not fixed, I can head over here again for awhile. Thanks for your patience!!
