ok so i was with a few other members of PRIDE and we were at this student org gala, right. so each student org got half a table. so my table was half pride, half some other group (i think it was a girl's education group? not sure, but something along the social justice lines, cause they tried to pair like-minded groups together)

anyway, so dinner was served and it was Mediterranean food, like traditional stuff like hummus and pita and fattoush and ouza and all that.

so one of the girls from the other group started describing what each dish was and explained that she knew all of this because her fiancee is Arab. i didn't say anything, just kind of nodded along because i think it's great when people learn stuff about culture.

but then she came across the meat on top of the ouza and was like "that's not beef, i'll have to text my husband and ask him what kind of meat that is"
it was then when i spoke up. "It's lamb." I said, pretty loudly. White girl who married an Arab got TRIGGERED. She WENT OFF and essentially told me that I knew nothing about the culture and shouldn't be appropriating it like that.

and then the giggling started. LF, the president of pride, just kind of looked at the girl really weird and eventually was like. "He's literally Lebanese."

and the girl went fucking RED. like tomato red. and she apologized, but it was still really funny lmao.

the tensions between my entire extended family are super high rn, bc my Teta is really bad in terms of health, like she can’t walk or use the bathroom or shower or eat on her own, and although she has 9 kids only 3 of them take care of her (one of them being my mom, one of them being my aunt with severe health issues of her own, and the last being my other aunt who has a husband who’s really sick and needs to be taken care of as well). so it’s really hard/stressful on my mom and aunts and they’re talking about getting a home care nurse to help out but everyone else (the other 6 siblings) is freaking out bc they think that it’s not traditional to have a nurse helping out so the 3 who take care of her are in a battle with the 6 who don’t, basically the 3 are saying well y’all should come take care of her if you think it’s easy and we shouldn’t get a nurse and yeah just tensions are high and they’re having a family meeting about it and uhhhHH everyone is a fucking snake in my family tbh
