For some reason I picked up and started reading . I had bought two copies (recently!) and donated one to the Little Free Library in my 'hood. I must've gotten a strong recommendation from somewhere! I'm finding it kind of sad and amusing; but I'm only half way through the book. My "classic" read for the summer of 2017. Also reading , since I enjoyed last month-her writing style is quite compelling! Wonder if she is still teaching at UW-Madison?

I'm reading The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu and their race to save the world's most precious manuscripts by Joshua Hammer. A few pages in I thought it would read like an adventurous true-to-life Indiana Jones story, but it's more of an account so far of the growing terrorism in Mali. I like being exposed to conflicts in that region as the world seems to ignore it but it's just not what I was expecting for the book.

Finished the audio of Letterman: The Last Giant of Late Night and started the audio of Nevertheless: A Memoir.

I am having a hard time putting down . It is inconceivable to me that anyone could have survived Mengele and the 'Zoo' at Auschwitz. Harrowing story, to say the very least.

Now I am reading All the Birds, Singing which was recommended by The Readers podcast. Such beautiful writing! Also listening to Camino Island. I can count on John Grisham to tell a good story. Next is Magpie Murders. Can't wait.

I'm 20 pages away from finishing which takes place in Germany in 1989. Having read earlier this year helps me appreciate the authenticity of the fictional characters in Ford's novel. I'm enjoying the audio book of on my commute.

I read Into the Water (and also read The Girl on the Train) and agree that the second novel wasn't as shocking as the first. I thought the author did a good job making the location of the novel very atmospheric and creepy and I definitely didn't work out the various intertwining plot points on my own.
