Title: Starstruck
How it fits: New release Feb 2017
Rating: 3 Stars
Review: At the beginning of this book I almost couldnt get past the writing style as I think this is the authors first book and some better editing needed to be done like with some typos i found and some ideas were never well explained. However, as the story went on the style kind of pulled together along with tbe story. Overall, I liked some of the characters and the idea for the story but if the whole book was written like the end was it would have been much better. I did however enjoy the twist at the end with Mrs. Gray and the several twists throughout the story, although the one about the main character being starstruck seemed a bit obvious.

To be fair, I was expecting a lot from this book, so although it didn’t meet my expectations, I still really enjoyed it. I love the main and side characters, and in this book we see more of their developing relationships and deepening bonds. However, I couldn’t help but notice that a few aspects of the plot and world not only aren’t explained but are even contradictory at points. Normally, this would be huge problem for me, and yet I still liked the book, which goes to show how great the characters are, I guess.

Review: This was the final book in the series. Fantastic! Full of suspense. Sara gets her memory back and she and Jacob work to get away from the Light. This book was non-stop action and there were so many twists and turns.

I knew there was a reason I hadn't read this one yet and now I realize that I must have read reviews saying that this ends in a major cliffhanger. Hell yes, it does. Holy crap. I'm so glad I waited until the third book was out because not only would I have been pissed, I would have forgotten what the stinking cliffy was when the third finally arrived. I loved how this book was from Kade's POV. It's insane how much he loves and takes care of Ollie. What a couple. And Jacob, boy what a douche. It was only towards the end that I could stand him at all. Great mystery in this one. I had no idea who the culprit was until we were supposed to know. Now I have to put off all other books because I really need to know what's going on with Kade!

Review:
I have been waiting for this sequel for a few years. This is not a fluffy story. Love is not going to save the day. It spiraled out of control in a way I was not prepared to deal with at the time. I read it but I also had to take mini breaks especially at the end. The beginning started off with some good news for the readers but baby it just stop right there when they had to go back home. One MC just broke my heart and I knew something was up but damn when it was all was revealed...smh. This is continuing story that covers two years. Overall, it was good but didn't hit me in the feels like the first book because I wasn't expecting that level of abuse in the first one. Now I need to add more fluffy story in my TBR list because this nearly took me out.

Review: This book started a bit slow for me and the main character's, named Tess, personality got on my nerves at about 2/3 the way through the book. I could understand her lack of emotion at the beginning of the book where she had nothing but after her encounters with James I expected her to act differently. I also didnt really like the abrubtness of the ending, it felt a bit rushed. However, while there were a few bad points, I overall enjoyed the story and I want to know how it ends.

Review: We saw Nick in the first book and he seemed like kind of an ass. I'm glad we got a chance to see his story and another side of him - the side just trying to figure it all out. This was a sweet story with enough tension and pining to keep a reader engaged.

This book was a solid and necessary continuation of the series; with maybe one surprise at the end, it was probably my least favourite while still enjoying the world and characters. You could tell it was definitely setting you up for the next and final installment.

Of course I didn't read these in order so I had no clue who the characters were but I still enjoyed the story. Actually made me tear up in the beginning. After that it was the same basic formula we get from these little novellas. "I hate you, let's make out, still hate you, let's have sex, now I love you". Come on, we've all read it before but for some reason I still get a kick out of these types of stories. I had quite the soft spot for Ethan and wanted to jump in and protect him. What a great warlock/vampire creature/human!

Review: I thought this book was pretty interesting since I usually don't read much historical fiction, but seeing the differences between then and now was cool. However I felt like the story line wasn't very different from many of the other books I've read and some of the characters didn't seem to develop much. However, I overall enjoyed reading it as a light-ish story (except for the parts where they were escaping the militia) and a cute little romance book.

While I'm not a big fan of this pairing especially when the snark is dial down. I enjoyed myself for the most part. They verbally didn't say much to each other on page and I didn't click with quick deep connection between the two MCs. It just felt unnaturally speed up.

Okay, I really need to stop reading these books in between "real" books. It just makes them seem even more asinine than usual. If I read many of them all at once, the mushy inst-everything and "honey"s and "baby"s seem normal and not nearly as cringe worthy. But, I didn't read them in order so....this one was about Matty's brother Ruben and the Blaecleah's lawyer Eli. Ruben just got back into town after three years and it took him four whole days to get with Eli after leaving town because of Eli. Whatever. Drama, drama, sex, love, drama, the end.

What I liked most about this book, and the reason I read it, was Dex's voice and character. This book is basically what happened to Dex during the time of book 5 in the series, and it was interesting because he undergoes a lot of change, so that when you read the rest of the books you can understand him better. That said, there were no surprises, revelations or plot advancement in this book, so it was just that, interesting.

Review: I'm enjoying this series. Isaac, a member of the DSS team, sees someone trying to steal his vehicle. Turns out it is a woman and before he can find out what is going on, he is shot and Jenna, it turns out has a gift for healing people, saves him. Yes, a lot of this is a bit far fetched by I really enjoyed the story. It worked for me.

Review: I really enjoyed this book! As I was reading it I felt like I could relate a lot to the main character and I liked the storyline. I also liked how at the end everything got worked out and most importantly Cath was able to get along again with her sister Wren. So far, Ive liked everything Ive read by Rainbow Rowell and this book was no different!

Review: Not nearly as engaging as the previous books. I'm getting a bit weary of Meg's "specialness" and how everyone (Simon) is afraid she'll be upset by something. Also finding it weird that there are so many mundane activities going on, ordering supplies, discussing trivial details - get on with the plot!
Still an enjoyable series, I just didn't feel engaged with this latest tale.

I'll admit I don't remember much about Cain from the previous books but that didn't affect my love of this story. In this one Ronan sends Cain out to find one of his co-workers that he's suspicious of who has disappeared to make sure he's okay. That co-worker is Ethan and he is definitely not okay. He's hiding out in a cabin with his phycho ex-boyfriend's stepdaughter. He's been severely beaten and just trying to recover when Cain shows up and he feels he has to fight all over again. Anywho, the story was great, the guys were wonderful, Lucy was a tough cookie and I loved most everything about this installment. However, I actually cringed when the sex stuff started because there is no way Ethan was even remotely ready for anything sexual. I just wish the timeline of this one spanned more than two weeks. I don't expect much realism in my books but I'd rather not get a sick feeling reading them either. I should have just pretended it had been months instead of weeks. Yeah, that's it.

Review:
This book was good but it didn't feel as entertaining or engaging as the previous one. I really enjoy Ty and Zane's banter and their moments of tenderness, so I wished there had been a bit more of that in this book. Also, the setting (woods, hiking, wildlife) wasn't really for me, although I do appreciate how the format changed so as not to have a full series of 'catch the killer' books.
WEEK 9Spot: 73
Book: Fate's Edge by Ilona Andrews
How it fits: #3 in series
Pages: 372
Finished: August 3

Review: This series is different in that each book focuses on a different couple. They all have threads with the book before, book 2 focused on the best friend from on of the couple in book 1 and book 3 focuses on the brother from the one of the couple from book 2, etc. This one was fun with heists and thieves and the signature Andrews banter was firmly in place. I've not decided if the focus on different couples each book is a good thing or a distracting thing - on one hand, the getting-together story is always happening, on the other hand, there's almost not enough time to invest in the characters.

Title: Isla and the Happily Ever After
How it fits: 3rd in Series

Rating: 5 Stars
Review: Overall, I enjoyed this book more than the other 2 books in this series, especially how all the older characters made a return and how it was back in the same setting as the first book. I also liked how it felt real, especially in the beginning and the end. As I got into the middle, Isla and Josh's relationship started to feel almost forced and super rushed, but looking back it makes sense with how the book finished. In the end, it was a good read and I liked how everything got tied together.

I'm in the huge minority here but the actual story here was between a 3 or 4 stars for me. The dirty talk and hot sex, however, moved it up to 4 solid stars. That said, I do think this story was kind of....boring. *gasp* Yep, I went there. I think I've been on such a huge crime drama and angst spree that I kept expecting shit to happen or to break out in spontaneous tears so when that didn't happen, I just felt nada. Did I enjoy it? Yes, but I was in no big hurry to pick in up all the time. I may have to do a re-read later to see if I change my mind.

Review:
What I liked most about this book was its concept; while clearly simplified for younger readers, I found it creative and interesting, which carries a lot of weight since the characters travel a fair bit and we get to continuously meet new manifestations of Greek gods and creatures in modern times. However, I thought Percy was somewhat boring as a main charcter and narrator (to be fair he is very young and I'm hoping for growth in the following books) and the plot was quite predictable.

Review: This book was a great start to a new series. Harper and her two sisters have control of their recently deceased father's hockey team. Harper recently acquired Remy in a trade hoping to give the team, who has been floundering, a chance at winning the cup. Of course, sparks fly and Harper tries not to fall for Remy, who is charming and hot. I really loved this story and look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series. A 4 star read.

3.5, rounded up because I'm feeling generous.
This was a quick read and not a bad way to spend a couple flights and a layover. The first person threw me a bit at first, especially when it shifts between Jane and Beast. I did get used to it early on and got so I didn't notice so much.
I lost how many times Jane smiled or giggled because of some internal dialogue, garnering her a frown from people around her. Socially awkward and then some. Ugh.
But... interesting enough and there are enough characters with potential that I could keep with the series
