Well that's the problem I think Haley is trying to point out. It can't be explained.

message 403: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) Wolf here's the deal, I believe you are saying you will be going into the military when you are 18, and that is noble, but you will have time to read, believe me my niece and nephew are in the service as well as many of my children's friends and they have downtime, maybe just not during Boot Camp...
Where I have a problem is that you claim you worked 13 hours a day, and that is illegal, there is no way to get around the laws, then you say you are reading only for three hours a day, and most of us believe that that is impossible...
You cannot accomplish the impossible even if you want to, somethings just are not going to happen, It is just called reality....
And if you don't care if we believe you or not, then perhaps you shouldn't attack us when we say that we don't...

message 404: by Eesh (new)

Eesh (quirkyopinions) | 7289 comments Exactly. You're getting very defensive (and quite rude) for someone who is not only telling the truth, but also doesn't care what anyone has to say.

Sharon Mariampillai | 10991 comments @Wolf

You need to calm down. This is criticism. They are just confused because if you go back to page 6, you have told the whole group that this is your worst month of reading because you got 3 jobs and school. Then you say that you saved up your reviews. They want more clarification that's all. I do not think it was necessary for you to talk to Berit and other people this way. If you clarify what you truly mean then maybe they would believe you more than they do right now.

message 406: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 12271 comments Just my two cents here. Granted there is a lot of confusion and things said aren't adding up to make sense.
But at the same time, most people will get defensive and upset when they feel (even if it is just from their perception) attacked, especially by multiple people. Heck, even I would feel a bit ganged up on here. Some comments said feel antagonistic.
And frankly, what someone works, school, age they are etc is no one else's business. We do not know what is entailed in their jobs. Baby-sitting a kid for a weekend whle parents are away can be considered working 48 hours straight. SO we don't know what these 13 hours really mean. Nor is it our business. If you are that concerned, PM the person. Or alert authorities about potential child labor laws, etc. We should not judge each other's lives.
And if it is a lie who cares?! A person will read what they read. Be it in an hour or hey read 20 hours a day. Be it a speed read or a snail's pace. Now if one is not actually reading that can be a bit unfair but I have seen a few people read an insane amount of books in a month that I cannot see how it is possible. Now in this case it does seem a bit odd but again Wolf did not have to say or share what time is devoted to reading. Be it the truth or not I don't think that should matter. If it is a lie, it only affects them.

Now the review saving part I get wanting clarification on. Yet I have seen others, even in recent months, doing that as well. At least Wolf admitted it up front. Be is saving them up or just pacing how many reviews are posted or what free time there is to post might be nice to know. Still, Sarah has asked, as the mod let her handle it. Be it letting it go, pushing for an answer or enforcing the rule for limiting reviews posted (for which I am actually all in favor of). The two statements made have been noted. Let it go for now, no one needs a bunch of people harping on them, demanding the same answers. Do things Wolf said make sense? No. They are contradictory. But the only thing that is the groups business is the review posting vs saving. And repeating the same doubts, demanding answers will not help. Maybe something is fishy, maybe just badly worded. But getting on their case to the point they are obviously upset or flustered isn't going to resolve anything.
This is suppose to be a fun group, but this isn't fun. We should be cheering our teams n here, playful competition, etc. I get the frustrating from things not making sense on the reading time and the review posts. But figuratively shoving someone up against a wall, demanding answers and crowding in around them isn't going to fix anything.

Sorry for the rant and any repeated statements. I am actually suppose to be on vacation and this thread just blew up to crazy proportions.

Wolf (Alpha) | 3155 comments I have one last thing to say and then I am leaving this thread until the end of the month. I can read very fast and actually be reading the words. I did save up a few review, but it's not like I'm trying to do anything against anyone. I won't save reviews again, unless I absolutely have to. Thank you Jamie for coming in and helping us solve the problems. Everyone here doesn't have to believe me. I promise that I am being honest to you. I was not trying to impress the group either. If anyone has any problems they can feel free to PM me. I apologize for getting angy and mad. I take full responsibility for my actions.

message 408: by [deleted user] (new)

Amen Jamie!!! I agree with your rant. Lol. I feel like the rest of the group, (none of wolf's comments make sense) perhaps she was just trying to impress the group, idk, perhaps she does read at work, i know I do. Be it as it may I agree on the whole review dumping. If you have time for all the other social media sharing then you have time to post reviews.

Bring back that rule about review dumping!

I am being honest with everyone Sharon. Nobody has to believe me, but what reason would I have to lie to everyone? What would I gain?

Well that was quite a lot to catch up on... I would almost say 'how can we be sure Wolf's actually reading the books', but the reviews are there for that purpose XD

How the heck does Birmingham have like 1000 points though. That is complete mental!!

☆☆Hannah☆☆ | 6596 comments @Sarah...I have a question. I just read a book but it doesn't list a page number on goodreads. Should I just put what it was on my nook or just not count the book?

message 415: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Mariampillai | 10991 comments @Hannah just post how many pages your version has and then the format it is in (ePUB, mobi, PDF, etc.). I had that happen to me a few times this challenge.

message 416: by Tati (new)

Tati I *think* you can use the Amazon page count

Which book is it? There might be a page count on amazon if there's not one on goodreads ☺

I'ts Makeup & Murder Beauty Secrets Mystery Book 1 by Stephanie Damore . I do think there is a page count on Amazon. So, I will link that to my post.

message 426: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Chen (lattez) I marked a book as currently reading a month ago but I never actually read it and marked it back as to read. I currently just finished it but can it still be used for the challenge?

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 53680 comments Mod
Can we count a book if we only half finish it? Like if we count the amount of page we read this month? Because I know it works the other way (you can count a book you finish if you started it BEFORE the start date).

message 429: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 3665 comments I've wondered that in the past, Maddison, so I will be interested to see the answer!

message 430: by Tati (new)

Tati I think you can. You only get the page points, though, as you can't choose a box to go with that book.

message 431: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) But would you write a review on only part of the book? I think that might be the only hangup with that, but of course I have no idea :-)

message 432: by Tati (new)

Tati You write the review, as normal (you have read the whole book, after all). However, when you post the page count, you post only the amount of pages you read that month, rather than the full page count.

message 433: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 3665 comments I think that writing the status updates (assuming that you do) would count in place of the review, like they normally do.

message 434: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) I thought she was asking what if she started a book but did not finish it, but I could see the status updates working for that :-)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 53680 comments Mod
Yeah if you start a book but don't get it finished. Because I normally do buddies, would I be able to count those updates as proof that I read it?

message 436: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 3665 comments Yeah, that's what I thought you were asking. So I guess we shall see!

message 444: by Eesh (new)

Eesh (quirkyopinions) | 7289 comments @Maddison You know, that will actually be really helpful with big books.

message 445: by Tati (new)

Tati I don't think you should be able to use the same bok twice...

message 446: by Eesh (new)

Eesh (quirkyopinions) | 7289 comments Yeah but, let's say we're reading an 800 page novel and read half of it at the end of one month and half at the beginning of the next. This way, we can get points for all the pages read.

message 447: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90928 comments Mod
You would be able to claim points for the pages, but you wouldn't be able to pick a box, and you would still have to write a short review or have status updates for it to count. The same with Jumanji, you could get points for the pages, but you wouldn't be able to cross off a description.
In terms of a review for a partly finished book, you would need to just tell us a couple of details of what has happened in the book so far, status updates would really be easier.

@Quirks: Yeah, lets me read books when I want, instead of timing books so I don't get them over the monthly marks.

@Tati: But we'd only count the number of pages we read each month, but the total twice.

message 450: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 53680 comments Mod
@Sarah: The example I want to use is Ice Like Fire (18% read this month and I won't be picking it up again). That'll be 98 pages (18/100 x 545), so that'll give me .5 points for this month's challenge, right? I've posted updates on the buddy read thread, which is what I can use as proof. If I can't count it, then that's fine, and I'll just count the 447 pages in next month's challenge.
