M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Phnark, talking of which ... Bleargh. I was on the somnambulent vomit clear up night before last. McMini managed to get his mattress, his duvet, his blankets, two cuddlies, his pyjamas, his socks and the carpet.

Joy.

There's something very surreal about washing down a mattress with antibac and turning it over in the middle of the night (thank heavens it wasn't runny vom).

Something even more surreal about washing your feet with antibacterial soap at 1 am as well as your hands. Mmm Mmm!

McMini was back at school today though, after a day off yesterday. And at last, my headache has gone. Had a 3 day job after getting too cold on Sunday and then being woken up in the middle of the night by the terrible words,

'Mum, I've been sick.'

Spending an hour clearing it all up and then having to listen to McOther playing the two tone nose flute for the rest of the night. Ugh.

I have done a lot of washing this past couple of days.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments What, washing the blood out of the sheets after you murdered McOther?

Much as that is desirable, then there is a lot of paperwork.

I abhor paperwork.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12613 comments Just read your blog MT - very interesting, especially as I've just been told my bunions have caused arthritis in my foot (I'm 35, so like you, too young for surgery) - doctor was just 'it's natural degeneration' and didn't get my concern that if they are painful at my age, what is it going to be like in another 2 decades. I'm going to look into the spoon thing

Magnets are better than any pain killers. They're definitely worth looking into. I'm told copper insoles are good too. But I've some medical magnets that I stick on with tape. They keep the swelling in check too.

:-)

Thanks to someone on here, I use magnetic plasters for my sciatica, works wonders, I tried them once on my shoulder with no effect - the rhematologist did say they only worked for certain things. Will put one on my foot in the morning though, nothing to lose, and look into insoles

I find they are great for my arthritis so fingers crossed they'll work on a bunion. They need to be big magnets though. The plasters didn't cut the mustard for me. They weren't strong enough. Like Scottie out of StarTrek I find that if something like this doesn't work its often a case of, 'we need more power captain!'

You milk dairy cows for thirty years and you'll end up awake the minute your feet hit the floor in the morning :-)

Even now I struggle to sleep past 7am

Don't call it laziness; call it aggressive resting.

Yeah, and ingesting a lead pellet was so good that they were passed (literally) down from generation to generation.

Sounds like a placebo that won't cause harm, so go on then.

message 89: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments I have some copper insoles on order. Bought them a month ago but they've only just sent them. Computer glitch ... Naturally. I've also bought some big magnets as the current trend for drainpipe trousers doesn't really go with the magnetic supports. :-)

Jim I can imagine sort if. I used to live in Ely and work for a company based in Luton, Stansted, Gatwick, Heathrow and Birmingham with a small office in Cambridge. If I had a meeting at 9:00 anywhere I had to be up and gone by 5:00 am a lot of the time. I dunno how I did it now. I wasn't menopausal at the time though. That probably helped.

Cheers

MTM

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments This week, I have been speculating as to why I have only sold 662 copies of the K'Barthan Series but have 4,247 people on my mailing list. What are they doing there? What on earth do they get out of it? Why haven't they bought any of my effing books?

The statistics have throw up some interesting ideas, I was quite chuffed.

My gut feeling is that you're so far down the mailing list road that it makes sense for you to continue it.
But if we all go down that road, it'll just get clogged and screw it for those who are doing it really well.

I always open and read your blog posts, but I like your voice as an author and a blogger. I don't believe I even downloaded the free books because I only have two neurons, and one is used for breathing and the other for writing - under the best of circumstances, which the current aren't.

This post/newsletter was full of fascinating information - but we're such different kinds of writers I decided not to clog up your blog comments.

But I do feel better - I only have the one mainstream book out. I have no books to use as loss leaders and tastes of the writing - so there's no sense at all in me doing what you do. So I don't feel bad that I have NOT been doing what you do, because it wouldn't have worked for me anyway.

If you sign up to follow my Pride's Children site or my writer's site, you get the posts emailed to you when they come out - and you will find out there, or on Amazon (if you follow there), when I managed to finish the second book in the mainstream trilogy. I will never be prolific - I'm too slow.

It is a lovely post, full of all kinds of information on what you have tried and what's worked for you so far. And there wasn't an idea I could steal. Bummer.

I'm just toodling along with Amazon ads, since Amazon is where the readers are. What I'm working on is tweaking ad copy, since I get a lot of impressions, a decent number of clicks, and few sales (though a lot of people have been complaining about the same).

When I have something which works for me, I hope I can leave it running in the background, and spend what little energy I have on writing.

I think you're doing everything right, from what I've read on other sites - and just haven't found the right veins of readers. And I'd be the very last person to have any ideas: my idea of my ideal reader is someone who bought The Goldfinch, and found it somehow lacking (there are legions of these people on its Amazon page). Hard to target a negative.

Your decision - keep going, tweak when you think of how to - sounds sound to me. When things DO pick up again, you will have that wonderful backlog for them to find.

Bless you, thanks, and I'm sorry there was nothing you could have a go at yourself! ;-) I probably have three neurons, one for care of McMini and the oldies, one for walking and one for talking! Mwah hahaahrgh! But actually, what you said about my style and voice rings true with something another lady put on my blog, about how she hasn't read my books but really enjoys the emails I send and the blog posts I write.

So maybe I should do a Jim and publish some of my funnier blog posts. It's a thought.

Cheers

MTM
