Eldarwen | 5004 comments Team,

Annika and I know who our Valentine is, but we aren't going to announce it just yet so you guys can have a look around through the team threads until you find our Valentine yourselves - and so you can read through the lovely quotes the Pixie added everywhere :-)

Have fun hunting!

message 352: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments And after you've done some hunting, come and tell us which ones you liked the most :)

Yeah, there are a lot of great quotes from Storm Front. This one kind of fits Valentine in a backwards way;

“I'd made the vampire cry. Great. I felt like a real superhero. Harry Dresden, breaker of monsters' hearts.”

message 354: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Hahaha yess :-)

message 355: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1659 comments I really liked the Juilia Quinn quote. I found our quote and looked through the books the team has read so far and I don't know that I'll be much help with the first part of the valentine challenge.

message 356: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments Yeah, that first part is going to be really tough...
*seriously questioning the mental capacity of the person responsible for the tasks*

I found one book that I can re-read (for the umpteenth time)
Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb . Eve Dallas is always entertaining, so that's one book at least. =P

message 357: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1659 comments Maybe there will be some books added soon that we can read.

message 358: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments Yeah, I really hope that as well.
What are you wishing for - genre-wise?

*fingers crossed*

message 359: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1659 comments Young adult fantasy would be my preference. I think there was one book in that category. There just wasn't a lot to pick from of any genre.

What would you want?

message 360: by Annika (last edited Feb 13, 2017 08:48AM) (new)

Annika | 1412 comments Ideally something within the m/m genre, but well those are a bit slim pickings I guess ;)
But I do like most good romances / romantic suspense - the ones with actual plots and characters that don't fit in the TSTL category ;)

message 361: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1659 comments That's asking a lot for Romance. They seem to have plots that are often very formulaic. I've been think it might be time to search out a good romance novel again. I like good romance novels they are just hard to find. What would you recommend?

I read romance or some sub-genre of it almost exclusively. Just like any other genre, there are good authors and there are really bad authors, some plots completely formulaic, some not. Please don't lump them all together.

Here are some author recs:

Nora Roberts is the queen, in my opinion. But for more twists and turns, try Pamela Clare, Shannon McKenna, Cindy Gerard, Gennita Low, Lori Foster.

For historical, Julia Quinn, Jennifer Ashley, Julie Anne Long. These are not over the top authors with the heaving bosoms that most think if with 80-90s historicals.

For lighter (and somewhat formulaic) try Susan Mallery, Jill Shalvis, Julie James, Leslie Kelly, Jennifer Crusie (my favorite).

I love Kristen Ashley, but she is full of details that sometimes bogg down the story and people either love or hate her because of it.

message 363: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments I know =P

As for good romances, I'm guessing you don't want mm, so skipping those for now.

*putting on the thinking hat*

Cinder & Ella (Cinder & Ella, #1) by Kelly Oram Love Always, Kate (Love Always, #1) by D. Nichole King are good YA romances (stock up on tissues for the second one)
And both of these authors have written several books you could check out.

Karen Rose is a great source for romantic suspense - mostly focused on the suspense part

And you have

Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead . Grave Witch (Alex Craft, #1) by Kalayna Price

If you like historical romances, I really recommend; Love Only Once (Malory-Anderson Family, #1) by Johanna Lindsey

And if you haven't guessed it by now, I love recommending books and can go on for a long time, but I guess I'll rein myself in here to not scare you away too much ;)

lol and we have another romance lover who loves recommending books :D

message 365: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Hmm for romance, I would also throw Colleen Hoover in as a suggestion, especially the following two books, which I've enjoyed quite a lot:

Confess by Colleen Hoover and Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

message 366: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1659 comments Thank you both for the recommendations. I've read some Nora Roberts and I enjoyed her more fantasy based romances. I read one of her newer novels and didn't care for it as much, The Collector. (I'd put a link but on my phone.)

Don't worry about to many recommends when it comes to books I dot think there are to many recommends.

message 367: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Agreeing though on that first part of the challenge, there isn't all too much there, so far anyhow, that strikes me as very interesting.

Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb would be my choice as well.

And yes..... the sanity of the person who came up with the tasks :-p

I agree, I love her books. But my favourite is Maybe Someday (Maybe, #1) by Colleen Hoover

message 370: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Haven't read that one yet!

message 371: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 1005 comments I found a few for the first part of the challenge I'd be interested in

Dirty Royal A Bad Boy Royal Billionaire Romance by Amelia Wilde Amethyst (The Jewel Trilogy, #1) by Lauren Royal First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward 1st to Die (Women's Murder Club, #1) by James Patterson

None of these are on my radar this month, so I'll have to see if I can work them in other challenges.

As for the second part... some interesting tasks :-P

message 372: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) Hi Team Kate Daniels!! This is Ora from Team Augustus Waters and you are our Valentine. There are a lot of things Currans says that I love. This one works better than any love poem could.

'You don't pick the family you're born into. You pick the one you make. I already chose my mate and glued her ass to the chair to make sure she knew it.'
Curran

San (btsentence) | 119 comments I can read Vicious (Vicious, #1) by V.E. Schwab for the first part. I will look for more on their shelfs tomorrow.

message 375: by San (new)

San (btsentence) | 119 comments And I think my friend has a book that was published on 14th February. I have to ask her about it. Unless someone already has book for this one.

message 376: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Hi Ora!! *waves*

That is a really good quote, yes. Definitely so many good things they say. Catnip instances included ;-)

Did you find something you'd be interested in reading?

So far, I haven't, no. But I haven't been looking in great detail yet either. Still have to check the team shelves, too. I just had a look at the spreadsheet - where I found Naked in Death.

But, ignore the rambling. You have a book published on Feb 14th, go for it! :-)

Yes I have found quite a few. I was so happy when I started looking at your team's shelves.

Eldarwen | 5004 comments

Good morning, ladies and gent!

For those of you who haven't been around to hunt - our Valentine is Team Ove .

Have a look through their spreadsheet and shelves to see if you find a book you'd like to read that fits the requirements for the February mini challenge.

If not, don't worry, we do have 15 other tasks we can read for.

Only books started as of today will count towards the mini challenge.

message 381: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Option I found on the team spreadsheet for read this month:

Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb

Options I found on Judith's TBR shelf: Burial Rites by Hannah Kent

Options I found on Daphne's TBR shelf: Ghost Story (The Dresden Files, #13) by Jim Butcher

Options I found on Kelsi's TBR shelf: Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre

There are a number of classics on Megan's shelf that I could pick up but that I'll decide in relation with other challenges and what I'm currently in the mood for, if I'm going to go for a classic. One classic I will read for sure this month - just have to decide which one :-)

Annalisa | 1659 comments This is going to be a busy week for me. I'll try and take a look this weekend and see if any of my books can fit for any of the first part.

I'm going to try and finish by current read today and will start something that will hopefully fit some of the second requirements.

Before I got all the great recommendations for Romance, I picked up a Grace Burrowes novel, The Trouble with Dukes and I will probably read that next.

message 386: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments From the title alone it sounds like it will fit somewhere for the second part of the mini challenge.

But not to worry, Annalisa! And thanks for the heads-up :-)

message 387: by Chris (last edited Feb 14, 2017 02:43PM) (new)

Chris | 190 comments If I finish the book I'm on, (Wilt), and my fourth book (The Essex Serpent) for our UNO challenge I might read Dracula (read a book set in the 1800s) for the Valentine mini, but it depends how long these other two take, as work has got very busy. I wish I had been told there were mini challenges as well. I could have planned for them!

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments OMG, team! My head is spinning with the Valentines stuff! I saw several books from Team Ove's spreadsheet that I wouldn't mind reading. I just have to see what I can get my hands on quickly and actually accomplish!
I'm reading 2 books right now that I can make work for the 2nd part of the challenge. I have:
Break in Case of Emergency that will work for cards 0 - standalone / skip - characters Pam or Karina / 5 - character Leora Infinitas / 9 - setting NYC . It works for either 3 or more friends, young woman, or has a pet

It's a nice surprise for first timers ;-) But now you know that there will be stuff like this happening for the next months as well hehe.

Don't worry about it though! Your current read won't fit for the mini challenge since you've already started it, but you might be able to find a spot somewhere for Essex Serpent. And if not, not a problem :-)

If you do get around to Dracula, I hope you enjoy it!

message 393: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Lol Lauri - happens to the best of us ;-)

Better your head is spinning with lots of options rather than you scratching your head because you don't know what to read :-)

Is there anything specific we're in need of right now you need me to try and read for?

message 397: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Ginger and Lauri, could you please check the books on the spreadsheet that have been slotted in for you but have not been read yet. (I highlighted your name for those books.)

Since we're now half-way through the month, it would be good to know if there's one or the other book you aren't going to read anymore (challenges with specific requirements and so forth, we know the drill hehe), so that the necessary steps can be taken.

Thanks!

Something that works for a 2 would be nice, since we have several of those cards open still.

So either a #2 in series or a title/character/author starting with T.

Thanks! :-)

message 399: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments If a 2 won't work, there's a couple of 6 and 9 cards left that need to be filled, so S and N!

Also - I missed the last book also works for card 8 (title) if needed...
