Ashley Karczewski (ashleylorna) | 152 comments This mini challenge does sound like fun! I think I might read Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman which was read by Treavor!

Yes!

Zahra (skipdips) | 66 comments I'm going to read A Gathering of Shadows tomorrow as it works for both task 1 and 2 of part 1. Then I'll most likely read Halfway To the Grave next for the first task of part 1.

maria helena (mariahel) | 964 comments 16 hours left until the mini-challenge starts :-)

When you all decide on books to read, can you please let me know which task it works for and how? That makes my life so much easier (and gives me more time to read books...)

You've all been great at doing this with your books for the regular hands, and since the tasks for the mini-challenge are much more specific, it will be harder for me to move books around so I want to make sure I use the books for the correct task and so that we get the most points for them!

message 207: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1012 comments I've been hunting through my read books to see if I could find anything first published on 14 February, and out of 700 + books, only one was - but it's like hitting the jackpot, as Wonder is one of my very favourite books ever.

I don't know if I could get this again from the library in time for the challenge (unfortunately I don't own it), but I completely recommend it if anyone hasn't read it and/or can get hold of it.

I don't use a TBR on GR, but if you do, if you click on Settings and add Date Pub you can easily scan which books you want to read and see if any are published in Feb/on Feb 14th.

It was really good - I would totally recommend getting the audiobook version, as she narrates, and the shade is real (and really hilarious.)

Happy Valentines! :)

Happy Valentines to you, too! :D

I've added the overview of the mini-challenge to post #7 so everyone can easily see which tasks we have found books for, without having to search through the discussion thread.

Ashley Karczewski (ashleylorna) | 152 comments I had a book preordered to come as it was published today, it's called We Were the Lucky Ones by Georgia Hunter so I could read that for the mini challenge?

message 216: by Avamuc (new)

Avamuc | 132 comments For the mini-challenge I could read A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic, #1) by V.E. Schwab as my next book. It was published in February. It would also work for a Reverse :)

Currently I am trying to finish Here We Stand 1 Infected Surviving The Evacuation by Frank Tayell
It works for:
1: First in a series (spin-off of another one)
2: Author: Frank Frank Tayell
3: Character: Helen
4: Author: Frank Tayell
6: Character: Tom "Sholto" Clemens
Skip: Character: Powell

message 222: by Sarah (last edited Feb 14, 2017 11:35AM) (new)

Sarah | 1012 comments I finally finished The Faceless Ones - audios take me a long time.

I'm also reading A Crimson Warning which I should finish tomorrow. It won't work for the mini challenge as I started it on the 12th.

2 - author Tasha Alexander
3 - character Lady Emily Hargreaves
4 - character Mr Foster
5 - character Ivy Brandon
6 - #6 in a series
7 - character Valerie Glover
8 - character Lady Emily Hargreaves

Today I started The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (same details as when Avamuc read it), which I don't think works for part 1 of the mini challenge, but will fit task 18 - authors being friends. CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien were famously friends.

Then I'm planning to move on to The Horse and his Boy, which Shamber read this month, and so fits the last spot of the 10 point books.

message 223: by Ashley (new)

- Card 3 (character - Huizpocholiti)
- Card 6 (author - Sumida)
- Card 7 (character - Vervain)

message 225: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1012 comments I finished A Crimson Warning today.

I've also started The Amateur Cracksman for another challenge - it will fit for a book written in the 1800s as it was first published in 1898. I am assuming that 1800s refers to the whole century and not the decade... Surely it must be the century.

For uno cards it works for -

1 - #1 in a series
2 - Title
3 - Author E.W. Hornung
8 - Author E.W. Hornung

- Card 1 (1st in series)
- Card 2 (title - The)

Can a book only be used once for each of mini challenge option in the second part of the challenge or can it be used for all it applies to? If needed the book can cover a couple of ones that other books have already covered :-). I'm not sure what I have just said even makes sense but struggling to explain what I mean hahah.

Yes, each book can only be used once in the mini-challenge.

So if your book covers several options (including options that have already been covered by other books) please still list them all because then we can move books around to get the most possible points :-)

Just to double check, did you start it before February 14? It's marked as currently reading on February 13.

If you are in a different time zone than the one the challenge runs by (Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time) that could be why and if so, no worry.

message 236: by Ashley (new)
