The Perks Of Being A Book Addict discussion
ARCHIVE Team Challenge: UNO 2017
>
Team Ron Weasley

This is how the teams I've been on in previous years did it, and it worked really well. It's not a time sensitive challenge so it's (hopefully) not too hard on the captains. I like everyone posting what they're reading, it's a nice way to see everyone's books and keep chatting about how good/bad/indifferent they were.
I don't mind using another tracking spreadsheet (apart from the official one) though if that is the way everyone else would like to play.

I have The Hare With Amber Eyes: A Hidden Inheritance that I've been saving, but it will soon be due back at the library; so I think it'd better go down as my first book. It's non-fiction, so no characters.
Works for 0 (standalone), 2 and 3 (title) and 8 (author Edmund).
I'm hoping I'll get around to Dust at some point, but that's such a yellow cover I can't help wondering if we'll get the colour cards making a reappearance (hint hint, mods) and whether I should save it for further on in the challenge, just in case! Lol!

So many great books to read, so little time...

Dust would be perfect if they bring back the colour cards! I hope they do, because those were fun.
For those that didn't play last round, some hands would have cards that were both a number and a colour, so for example a card 5 blue needed a book that both fulfilled the requirements for a card 5 and had a blue cover.

Is everyone ready?
My first two books will be:

Citymorden is a Swedish crime novel (5th in a series) that I have been saving for Uno and White Nights is 2nd in a series that I just started, and that I need to read for another challenge in February.

I know! I started a quick and easy audiobook to keep me occupied until Wednesday.

This is so true. But I couldn't restrain myself and ended up reading the first book in the Hercule Poirot series hahaha

I read a few books from that series recently (but I have to admit that I prefer the Miss Marple mysteries). I think Agatha Christie's books usually works very well as audiobooks.

I read a bit last September. And it's just been sitting there on my currently-reading shelf ever since. As someone who isn't interested in video games at all, surprisingly I liked what I read.
Hey btw, I was wondering if I could restart it for the uno challenge... That wouldn't be a problem, right?

I'm not very interested in video games either, but I grew up in the 80's ad 90's so I really enjoyed all the popular culture references.
"Hey btw, I was wondering if I could restart it for the uno challenge... That wouldn't be a problem, right? "
That shouldn't be a problem. I will check with the mods just to make sure :-)

I also have some holds coming through - looking forward to

Passing Strange looks interesting!

Okay thanks! :)

I really enjoyed Idol, Kazen! I hope you do too!!

I cannot believe I haven't asked this yet since we are team Ron Weasley, but has anyone not read the Harry Potter books? One of the things I like the most about the series is that is has so many great characters. Who is your favourite? I'm not sure I could pick an absolute favourite, but I adore the entire Weasley family and I have a soft spot for Snape.

We are inching closer and closer! I've read the whole series and my most favorite is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It's hard to pick just one but I gotta say it's Hermione for the win. Followed closely by Professor McGonagall.

I haven't read them all but for a long time I was involved in a HP-based crafting group, so I know everything that happens anyway, hehehe.
Happy to see you have a soft spot for Snape - I do, too!

A HP-inspired crafting group?! That sounds so much fun!

I am a little disappointed in myself to say I actually haven't read them. It is a series I have wanted to read for so long but just never gotten around to it!

If you like audiobooks, I highly recommend listening to the HP books. Both Stephen Fry and Jim Dale (who narrates the US version) are fantastic!

It's awesome! Everyone is sorted into houses and does "classes" for imaginary points that are taken very seriously. ;)

Love this.

I'm rereading Half-Blood Prince at the moment. I would have to agree that Hermione is probably my favourite, although I do like Luna.
That sounds like a really fun group, Kazen.
Less than 12 hours to go. :)

My first book will be

I think that's right anyway haha :-)
I have also started reading

Works for 1 (char Olaf), 2 (#2 in a series), 6 (char Sunny), 7 (char Violet), and Skip (char Klaus).
I haven't recently checked, but I think all the Lemony Snicket books apart from the first one are over the 25k word limit.

Great! I'll update the spreadsheet tomorrow or later tonight (depending on when I get done with work).
I enjoyed After You, although not as much as Me Before You

I'm switching between books too :-)
"I haven't recently checked, but I think all the Lemony Snicket books apart from the first one are over the 25k word limit."
I think you are right. The Reptile Room is definitely ok. I can double check the others later.

Oh, that is a shame. I'm sure there must still be people on the reserve list though.

Your team is now without a co-captain, so it would be great if someone could volunteer to help out maria helena. Thanks!

It should work for:
1: Place: Oklahoma
3: Third in Series
4: Title: Forged by Flames; Character: Falcon
5: Author: Susan Illene
6: Autor: Susan Illene
7: Character: Verena
Skip: Place Kederrawien (Where the dragons came from ;)), Character: Phoebe

Yeah I loved Me Before You, but was a little bit too emotional to immediately read After You. And then I heard it wasn't as good so I have been putting off reading it until now!

It's definitely worth reading, and it's in no way a bad book. It's just not as great as Me Before You, so I think people that expected to get a repeat of that was disappointed.

Ah well that's good then, I often expect that anyway! Thank you, I'll let you know how I get on!
Also, I have finished

i was so not expecting to be picked this early xD there were so many replacement sign ups. Glad i did though =)
I'm from Portugal and i like to read horror, YA, urban fantasy... i usually try to read a book a week, however if i get excited about a challenge i end up reading a lot more. I love team challenges but i usually don't chat much.
My favorite HP char is professor Lupin. Had a massive crush on him when i first read the books. Sadly the movies ruined him for me :((
This is my first time playing UNO, but i love the card game and when i heard about the challenge i knew i had to participate =D
My shelf is uno-2017.
My first read for the challenge will be Magic Binds. Will work for card 1 (char julie Olsen), card 3 (char Dali Harimau), card 4 (char Ascanio Ferara), card 5 (author I), card 6 (char Saiman), card 7 (char Kate), card 9 (char Andrea Nash)

I'm finishing up a pre-challenge fiction read but I started some non-fiction today - Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit. It looks like it works for 0 (stand alone) and 6 (author S). A quick read so far, yea!
