This is exactly how I feel. Every time the story seemed to go into a slump I would still read the next one with hopes of finding out SOMETHING. The way she answered that particular question about the Nine "I know every detail of the origin myth of the Nine. I will never tell you it. If you think about that, you'll understand why" came across as so damn pompous. In my opinion, she knows her tightly guarded secrets is one of the main reasons she's kept readers after all the drama she's caused. If she gave up secrets now she wouldn't get people to read her books. However, she has played this game far too long. At the end of FS I felt so over KMM and her secrets. It was supposed to be a finale, give me something that truly feels "final". I know she only promised an ending for Mac, Barrons, and the book, but to have nothing else answered felt like a slap in the face (dramatic of me, I know). What's worse is that she ADDED questions at the end of the damn thing: Is Barrons the next UK/Where will the UK's power go? What's up with the mural? Why isn't Cruce dead? What's up with the other OOPs? Who the fuck is DEG??? I don't believe authors owe anything to readers, but that doesn't mean authors should purposely keep information out of spite. After all this time it's fair to expect some answers whether it's about the Nine, DEG, cockroach god, Daegus, something. I don't think KMM has treated her fans well at all, and unless there will be actual answers in her next books I won't be spending anymore money on her.

KiBo Well said Carol. I agree with you 100%.

I'm frustrated and a little pissed at KMM at this point. How many questions was answered in FS compared to how many was created? And I dont want to get started on how disappointed I am with FS after it had such a promising beginning.

As far as KMM's Q&A answers go, most of the time she comes off being an egotistical, sarcastic bitch. (No Karen, I do NOT know where the Silver in the mural leads because Im not a rocket scientist like you apparently are!) I want an author to tell me a complete, detailed story and not "leave me with something to chew on" or "leave it to my own imagination to finish writing". If I wanted to do that then I would write my own damn book!!!

Needless to say I won't be investing anymore time, money or emotions in anything else she writes.

Dudes. Dont go all Misery (Stephan King for the not aware ones) on KMM now wtf. The woman shared her awesome inner world to enrich yours too and you also go and curse her she doesnt do it like you want. Like you ve deserved it, the awesome reader and respectful fellow being you are. And what is it with the anti-thinking? Why does it have to be spelled out. Go get the previous book and check the info on the mirrors. Find it for yourself what that bb&b mirror is. But no. It wasnt chewed and spit in our mouths so kmm must be a bitch -___-.. jesus.. i paid for it so give me what i demand. the cry of the wronged consumers.

Hey now, be fair. People have a right to be upset about how an author conducts themselves and just generally air their grievances. You and others on this board and others constantly go on about how the Dani/Ryodan plot line has not gone as you all would've liked. Trying to shame other people for doing what you have done and condoned for the year I have watched this all happen on the boards will simply not work. There have been complaints that Dani's story hasn't been "mega" enough, "epic" enough, too much Mac (people even wishing she would die for fucks sake), too little Ryodan, and not once have you ever compared your actions or their's to basically children whining about not getting what they want. For YEARS I have been in KMM's corner defending her decisions from Dani fans who are so upset and so entitled that the series didn't go their way, but I have had enough of this writer's antics. Why does it need to be spelled out at least even a little? Because after ten years the questions that have kept us reaching for the next books still haven't been answered and because she keeps adding new questions to supposedly finished storyline. At this point it's a marketing device that KMM pretentiously plays off as some higher literary motive. Why does all of Dani and Ryodan's story need to be spelled out? Why can't readers just be happy with the insinuated promise that in the future they would get together? Because you have been both implicitly (general plot and character development) and explicitly (as stated by the author) promised more. This applies to Dani, Ryodan, and every other damn question she has purposely dragged out over the years. No one besides you talked about going Misery on KMM, only that we wouldn't be spending anymore money on a product that we no longer found enjoyment. I was explicitly told via her Q&A that she would never give me one major thing I would like to see in the series. That alone is enough to justify detachment from the series. The way KMM answers her Q&As is borderline insulting and justifies upset readers. Each time she does a Q&A she comes across as very rude and upset that people question and ask things about the series that she shared with us. Why would I want to further support an author who I think repeatedly disrespects her fan base? Continuing to buy her works would just be saying I'm okay with how she's handled herself and I'm not. Therefore I, like everyone else on this board yourself included, will state my negative opinions on the progression on the obviously-not-a-finale finale and the author's behavior along with the justifications for those opinions. If you can be tolerant of all of the Dani stuff you can be tolerant to the five comments made about this subject.

Fresiako | 1149 comments Hey guys lets not resort to fighting lol.
Also regarding KMM, let's not name call her. She doesn't deserve people calling her a bitch, she hasn't murdered anyone or done anything wrong lmao. Answering questions in a vague manner isn't a crime. She does seem like a genuinely nice lady. I've never seen an author who holds so many events and giveaways, and tries to interact with her fans as much as KMM does.
I can see why you'd be frustrated never learning what the nine are, but to be fair to KMM she did say even as far back as when Shadow fever was released that she'd never tell us. It's not exactly a recent development.
Even if you're frustrated at KMM, please be civil to her lol.

message 256: by Carol (new)

Carol | 43 comments It truly is more than just about the Nine. I want answers about them and I won't get them. That's okay. Am I frustrated about it? Yes. She has made a very big deal about it, and purposely leaving it out without flushing out her reasoning behind it seems kinda petty. The problem I have with KMM and this series is the continued process of adding more and more questions without any answers. It is very tiresome. Moreover, as readers ask for clarification on her purposely vague endings, explanations, and omissions KMM becomes very cross and rude in her answers. She behaves similarly to annoying Mac. She has a lot of power and hates being questioned on any of it. If she's going to be like this why bother with a Q&A? We only get more questions and what can be interpreted as belittlement. I'm tired of it. I'm tired of her. And although I'm curious to hear more about Dani's story and whatever is going on with the book after that, I cannot bring myself to continue to wait for KMM to wrap up just about anything in her series. I won't spend my money on pre-orders anymore and I'll wait and see what those willing have to say.

And for the record KiBo didn't actually call KMM a bitch. She stated that KMM's responses come across as bitchy. Although it may seem like splitting hairs it is a nuance that has importance.

June | 590 comments I don't think there is anything wrong with people wanting some clarification. when people read or watch things they do it because they are intrigued by the storyline and characters and want some type of resolution. No one would be 'invested' in projects if up front in the beginning the author said I am going to probably never wrap up storylines or give definitive answers to mysteries that i purposely write about. I don't even look at her QAs because she is purposely vague and misleading at times. This is the author that profusely refused to reveal that Burned had completely switched gears and focused on Mac only a few months before release when she had been writing for years, why not let it out when she knew the direction changed? Thats her nature as an author. And my thoughts are she is too wrapped up with her fanbase, whatever you want to call it. You can answer emails put on book signings and show appreciation for all your fans as many really good authors do without constantly having to answer 'questions 'because she is not answering questions she is drumming up business for the next book and honestly i think she LOVES feeling an ego boost. Thats my thoughts.
I've seen too many people on these boards say that were banned from her website or QAs because of a previous comment. Legitimate authors with confidence would never even bother doing that. I just don't think she has a clear image of what the 9 are and other resolutions to some of the previous questions and storylines she posed in previous books. Logic editing is not one of her talents. Some authors don't have the ability to make a consistently logical outline for further books within the same 'world'. The fever series was 9 books and could have been easily cut to 4 or 5 at the most. And i am not even sure why everyone keeps saying she wrapped up the series...hello....she says she is writing another Dani book. Same 'world' means essentially same series. Fever is her money maker, she will never completely close it up. And 10 years i predict if her other ventures don't pander out she will write a book about the 9 even though she said will never reveal their origins. She will figure out those origins real fast if she needs the money. it will sale.
People can read a series and not pander to the author. Its allowed to have genuine criticism of published works, when you get published you are allowing yourself to be open for both praise and criticism. thats how it works.
But no one should ever put criticism out there with poor manners or in bad taste. On the other hand saying she gives out bitchy answers it not saying she is a bitch. Maybe not the perfect phrasing to be used but i understood what was trying to be said. i personally don't think KMM answers questions in terms that are easy to understand for audiences and does act a bit pseudo intellectual in her responses to make people feel like they should feel 'stupid' for even asking them.
Thats my opinion

June | 590 comments Maybe I should have completely skipped the previous long winded statement and broke it down like this,

SPOILERS for Harry Potter:

You read the entire Harry Potter series and the whole point in defeating Voldemort is to destroy hortacruxes but JK never tells what a hortacrux is precisely or their purpose And then some one asks what they are and she responds wth 'you don't NEED to know what a hortacrux is ... just KNOW i KNOW what they are and what they do, next question,"

I truly apologize if I ruined HP for you, I never meant to. lol
I just think this is as basic as one can get to explain why really vague answers are stupid when you are wrapping a series. Do all questions get answered when series are ended, NO. But the questions that are fundamental in the storyline that have been around since page 12 essentially get answered. Or you're maybe a bad author. just saying.

message 259: by Mel (last edited Jan 28, 2017 09:10AM) (new)

Mel (mgilmore) You ladies bring up some interesting points here that go beyond the Fever books and speak to author philosophies in general. Do some authors answer every question at the end and tie everything up in a neat little bow? Sure. Do some purposefully leave things out to leave a little mystery and let the reader use their own imagination to fill in the blanks. Yep. I can understand how it can be frustrating to not have everything answered. But I personally enjoy NOT having everything answered. Don't know if I can explain why. But for example the origin of the 9? Not important to the plot. But I like the mystery and imagining what it might be. It would be boring if she spelled everything out for us.

About KMo's attitude towards fans...I personally didn't find her Q&A responses to be rude. She was straightforward in a lot of cases, sure. The tricky thing about reading what someone says and not being able to listen to them speak is it's hard to get a feel for the person's attitude. To me she didn't come off as being rude. And it makes sense that she wouldn't answer questions in the Q&A that she chose not to answer in the books. I Feel like she can't win. If she does a Q&A fans get mad that she doesn't answer all their questions. If she doesn't, fans get mad she's not interacting with them enough.

Anyways, those are my 2 cents. I know we don't all agree, and that's OK. :)

SHOOKITHA TEA (shookithatea) | 992 comments I dunno, when it comes to the nine I kinda like that they're mysterious and we don't know exactly where they come from. I think it's more fun to fill in the blanks-especially with you guys lol

I think K Mo's Q&A's are a lot of fun-idk how uh informative they are though I can see why some people feel they're pointless. But I really don't think K Mo comes off as rude. IA Mel, sometimes tone is tricky on the internet.
but name calling is not cool at all, K Mo/everyone here deserves more respect than that.

message 261: by June (last edited Jan 28, 2017 11:28AM) (new)

June | 590 comments i really did not think anyone was calling KMM a bad person but her responses were blasé and can be frustrating at times. I am definitely in the philosophy if you are writing to be published and expect people to see a series thru to the end people should expect answers to most burning questions. thats just normal. I did not even really think about not knowing what the nine are after reading Fever song since i can't really think the series is legitimately done. with Dani's book to come I consider the fever series going strong. thats my opinion. but i feel that the QAs are just that, entertainment and a time for people to express to her how much they like her work. she has had these forever i think and many times she answers questions that become apparent contradictions later on. i have seen so many of you reference the Ryodan is going to overshadow BArrons remark that KMM made in a previous QA. that remark is probably the remark KMM regrets more than any other because she not even remotely backed that one up. You can't make a character overshadow another character if he or she gets limited screen time. its impossible, to me at least.

i don't think she does it on purpose I just think she answers questions in terms to promote even more hype.

message 262: by Carol (last edited Jan 28, 2017 12:12PM) (new)

Carol | 43 comments Yes tone is hard to decipher, but when readers purposely pose their questions to be as non-offensive as possible and the she still gives unnecessary attitude, there's a problem.

Q: Karen Moning, I just have one question. Has Barrons or any of the Nine ever told you what they are? I'm not asking you to tell me what they told you, just if you know.
A: I know every detail of the origin myth of the Nine. I will never tell you it. If you think about that, you'll understand why.

Deea (Andreea) (deeas_escape) | 24 comments Whoa whoa, let's not turn this into a tense situation ladies. :)

I'm with Mel and Melissa on this one. I don't have a problem with KMM's way of not answering Qs, not knowing more about the Nine etc. All on the contrary, what I actually love the most about KMM's writing is all the mystery, alternatives, braindfucking, characters bigger than life that may or may not be something more and the endless possibilities. They make my head spin, make me wonder, make me dream of what the most perfect outcome could be.

So I think it's just a matter of preference. We all take something different from a reading experience.
And she has a peculiar personality and way of doing/saying things, but she can't live with those beasts in her head for 11 years and be asked the same questions hundreds of times and still be completely normal lol.

Like KMM just said on FB, A major theme of this series is 'choice.' I said in the series: “It’s our actions that define us” but if you reduce it further, it’s the choices we make that shape our actions that define us. Everything comes down to that. We all have a wolf. Do you feed it? Do you choose it?

And it's obvious her style really changed in the past years and it's not for everyone anymore. :( What am I saying, there's lots of things I'm feeling disappointed and heartbroken about in the latest books too, but like a fellow fever fan said, her worst is still better than most of the series out there nowadays...

Just saying my opinion, not trying to ruffle any feathers lol

I think this is most amount of excitement on the board in days. LOL Seriously i just would not put much stock into the QAs, thats my opinion. I guess I'm just not that much invested into the series so Im not really even heartbroken. And you need to read some other stuff if you think KMMs worse and still better than most other series books. WHAT???? i am joking, i know people really seem to like her writing style.
The most intriguing thought Ive had since the "last" book is IF she does write another fever book centered around Dani will it read more like the last few books or more like Iced. I personally thought Iced was the best of the bunch but thats a personal statement.

LOL got it!
Yeah, that Q&A wasn't much of a Q&A in the end, more of a fan chat. Anyway, I for one thought it was fun, mostly for the community discussions and small glimpses into KMM's head.
Okay, maybe that about her worst writing being better was an exaggeration lol (it's not better than Nalini Singh for example) but I think you know what I meant. :)

Oh! That's an interesting thought. The next book will probably be a combination of Iced's voice and Feversong's tone. Iced was my fave too.

Saphia | 76 comments Btw I found this on KMM's page about ending of Feversong...

''Feversong was the end of Mac & Barrons story arc, not the end of me writing in the Fever World. I finally got M & B to the place I needed them to be according to my vision for the series. But I didn’t want to slam a door on them because in my mind they’re still living, changing, having adventures and evolving. Maybe Mac will remain the Queen. Maybe she won’t. Maybe the UK magic will go to Barrons. Maybe it won’t. Maybe they’ll both reject the seemingly pre-ordained fate in the mural. The ending traces back to the Unseelie king saying at the end of Shadowfever to Mac, “not the only possible.” The series took root in the themes of possibility and choice. It seemed only fitting to end with possibilities and choice.

I’ve said in recent Q&A’s that I deliberately did not wrap up secondary character stories (see my note on this page about setting expectations for Feversong here: https://www.facebook.com/notes/karen-...) because I wanted to preserve the possibility of writing more on them in the future and knew I couldn’t do justice to M&B plus the secondary characters in a single book. I also said in a recent chat that I’m not saying I’ll never write about M&B again. If, organically, they move into one of my future Fever World books you may get glimpses of them again. I doubt, however, they will take main stage. I’m satisfied with where they are, off on another grand adventure.''

KiBo Let me start off by saying that in no way, shape or form am I trying to start an argument. I am only doing what everyone else who posts in this discussion has the right to do ... express my thoughts and opinions on the books, characters, and KMM. I don't agree with everything that is posted by others but I try my best to respect them.

The majority of the posts in this discussion as well as a few other discussions mainly centers around Dani and Ryodan. Most of you are pro KMM. I get that, really I do. But just because myself and a few others don't share your point of view does not give anyone the right to call me or anyone else out. If you don't like my opinion then don't read my posts. Its that simple.

I was disappointed in FS. I used the mural silver as one example of why I was disappointed in not only the book but also how KMM chose to tell the story. Yes, its HER story but dont I have the right to voice what I think about how SHE is telling HER story? Is only positive feedback regarding the books and KMM permitted in this discussion?

I have been patiently waiting, putting faith in KMM to continue writing books in this series at the same level and quality as books 1-5. KMM has NOT delivered. I could continue to read her stories and bitch and complain about every little detail but I choose not spend anymore money or time reading KMMs books.

I, for one, have grown tired of the decline in the storyline, the wishy-washy characters, no answers, more questions, and the end (maybe?). Not to mention that when readers become disgruntled with one of her books, she blames it all on "following her (alleged) muse". Sorry, but I refuse to drink that cool-aid. After reading some of KMMs answers to questions posted by her fans, reading, watching and listening to her interviews, I find her to be rude, vague, sarcastic and sometimes a bitch. Im not attacking her by calling her a bitch I am merely expressing how I think she presents herself at times. I have enjoyed some of her books but I do not like her as a person.

I sincerely hope that KMM is able to deliver an "epic" book for all you Dani/Ryo lovers but I dont think she can or will do that for you, her faithful and loyal followers.

P.S. Fever is filled with so many interesting mysteries that can be discussed and debated other than Dani and Ryodan.

LOL. You can criticise KMM if you want KiBo we're not the KMM police. Just no need to refer to her with derogatory terms. No need to be rude behind her back. I don't agree with a lot of KMM's actions myself but that doesn't mean I'll talk shit about how she is as a human being.

Ok lol. What's wrong with discussing Dani and Ryodan lmao? Thanks for informing me that there are other interesting mysteries I had no idea! But obvs they don't interest me as much as plot points related to the characters i love. When people want to talk about Mac, Cruce, Barrons, or these other interesting mysteries etc, they are welcome to and we don't stop them from talking about their favourite parts of the series. Everyone is interested in different parts of the series, and discusses what interests them. Why are you shaming us for talking about what we're passionate about lmao?

I understand the annoyance at KMM. I feel like all her characters, except Dani, have become very washed out. Based on the beginning of FS I thought this book was going to restore them, but no luck. The main reason I am angry at the lack of answers from KMM is because I'm so unsatisfied with the characters in the story now. Having an interesting question or two answered would make what I paid for this book worth it. I already know how a strong woman acts and behaves, I don't need Mac to walk me through it, especially since she should have been doing that shit three books ago. Mac's "decline and growth" storyline was such utter bullshit, and it shouldn't have been the focus of these last few books. And it wasn't even done well!

I feel like the answers to most of her questions don't even exist, or aren't really that interesting, which is why she doesn't find it necessary to answer them. After saying that she would never reveal the origins of the 9 and telling people on FB to "think about that" that's the conclusion I came up with.

I really loved the four parts about Dani's past and rereading those reminds me that KMM can be such a phenomenal writer on some portions of her books. Even though I don't appreciate how she responds to questions and hate how she fills the books with these eye-rolling chunks of "motivational/philosophical" monologs, I feel that I like Dani enough to read her next book. I'll just have to come to terms with the fact that KMM is only good at leaving people with interesting questions in her books. She has no talent in answering them well.

You say you're not trying to start an argument when you clearly are. Using inflammatory language like calling someone a bitch is going to cause an argument. There are ways to get your frustrations with K Mo across without getting nasty.

message 277: by Beckster (new)

Beckster | 4 comments It is a pointless argument. Personally I prefer to get answers to my questions after this much money & time investment into a series. I felt the same way about JRR Ward's vamp series. Everyone is going to have different favorites when it is an massive multiple series. I gave up the JRR Ward series due to overall lameness. KMM series I suffered thru the first four then was thrilled with the Shadowfever book cause I thought it wrapped up a lot of things.

However; my glee was short lived; I loved Iced, hated Burned, the next one was annoying then this one. Jeez I kinda want some stuff to wrap up. I feel like we get led down a path, which truthfully don't blame it on inner character voices or muses...it is money.

I skim read the latest one & listened to part on audio, I haven't paid for one since Iced. Now that makes me gleeful.

Reading these seems like someone writing a self help book all the inner conversations with Mac & her issues. What an unlikable heroine.

message 278: by Sbcurious (new)

Sbcurious | 197 comments I haven't paid for one since Iced either. And believe me the B word came to my mind when I was one of those banned from her fb page for asking a simple question. It's the only thing I can think of that would have been the reason. Someone else actually brought that kind of thing up on her authors page here and she said "don't be an ass" So I think if an author wants respect the fans with honest questions or difference of opinion should be treated with respect too! And to me it's beyond ridiculous to continually introduce questions and mysteries in a series only to be told nope you will never I know..you don't need to. I'm fairly sure that is a main reason some kept reading!

If I didn’t tell you by writing it, the odds are high I won’t feel I can tell that particular part of the story for any number of reasons that can run a varied gamut from: the inclusion or omission of certain things are reflective of theme and motif (such as not telling you the origin story of the Nine; part of the primary theme of the series is “past is past” and “see me, don’t name me” and “the legend of the thing is often very different than the thing” and “the totality of reality is frequently completely at odds with the labels we use to try to understand them” to it possibly being story I reserve the right to want to delve into in the future. It pains me to not be able to tell you more story so when I can, I will.
FEVERSONG was one of the more challenging books to write because I had such exacting vision and standards for it. I spent a great deal of time anaylzing, constructing and deconstructing structure and plot. At one point, I considered taking a slightly different path to the same place. I quickly realized I wasn’t going to use this scene but was having so much fun writing it that I finished it and tucked it away. I’m fascinated by the ‘old earth gods” and by Christian MacKeltar, so without further ado, a scene that didn’t make the final cut. It also addresses one of the recent questions I got about why Jayne turned Seelie whereas Christian and Sean turned UnSeelie...

SO IF YOU MEET ME HAVE SOME COURTESY, SOME SYMPATHY AND SOME TASTE

Barrons said, “Do you remember All Hallow’s Eve when we summoned the old god at the circle stones of Ban Drochaid?”
“How could I forget,” Christian replied with a tight smile. “You screwed me and I got hurled into the Silvers where I turned into this.”
“I was hurled into the Silvers that night, too. Because of you. I merely escaped more quickly.”
“And just how did you do that?” Christian said dryly.
“Do you recall what I told you before we began the ritual?”

“Yes. Not a bloody thing.”
“I told you one thing you needed to remember and you ignored it. I said: When it rises, greet it with warmth and respect.”
“The foul thing came exploding out of the earth, gunning for me. It was dark and ancient and smelled of bones and graveyards. And I was supposed to smile and say ‘hello?”
“You are dark and will one day be ancient and you don’t merely smell of death, you’re the most lethal horseman of the apocalypse. Your legend will forever precede you. Yes, I bloody expected you to be courteous yet you ran as if it was the vilest thing you’d ever encountered. It responded to you in kind. Our plan that night succeeded. You didn’t welcome it. It left.”
“Well, why the hell was the onus on me that night?”
“You attract power.”
Christian went still. He’d often felt that way as a lad, strolling the bens and vales of his Highlands, tethered by a deep bond to all of it, earth to sky, dirt to stars, feeling as if the heavens themselves sometimes shot out a milky tendril to caress him, noticed him, observed him with curiosity. His Druid connection to all living things was intense. He’d not even been able to fish as a lad because he’d not been able to bear the pain of the pierced worm, life stolen by the hook. The worm had enjoyed its’ dark, sweet, rich life in the soil, comforted by the rhythms and songs of the earth. And now he was the Great Stealer. “Why do I draw it?”
“You have the potential for great good or evil. The universe notices.”
“Why the bloody hell are you bringing this up now?” Barrons always had a reason. He never talked unless he needed to in order to accomplish an aim.
“You’re about to meet someone. Greet it with warmth and respect. I won’t tell you again.”
Christian stopped in his tracks. “That thing from Samhain is here?”
“Another of the old earth gods. This one, however, will not run, they will decimate you if you fear them. The old ones can be cantankerous.”
“Your pronouns aren’t matching. What the bloody hell is it—one or multiple?” When Barrons said nothing, he snapped irritably, “Where the fuck do you even find old gods? It’s not as if they’re just hanging about on street corners.”
Barrons shot him a look of dark amusement. “You might be surprised. If you were one day summoned by those in need of your services yet greeted with fear and hostility what would you do to those who’d called you?”
Christian bared his teeth in a twisted smile. If someone dared compel his presence then treated him with horror and rejection….well, in his recent state of mind, he might do worse than the old god had done. He’d live up to his fucking legend, every frightening bit of it.
“Be glad the one that came that night wasn’t as bitter and broody as you. All things considered, it was surprisingly well mannered.”
Christian narrowed his eyes. “As you’ve just been. You never explain.” Were they becoming…friendly? Was Barrons capable of friendly?
“Power is gray. It goes where you will it, wrong or right, dark or light. Reviling yourself is the surest way to go dark.”
Christian bristled but said nothing. The bastard had struck a nerve. Barrons didn’t know he’d begun hating himself long before he’d turned Unseelie, when he’d been but a lad, for hearing all those truths no one else could hear, for making those he loved uneasy, for inciting suspicion and fear. But even more shaming to his character—he’d come to revile those around him, to feel contempt for their lies and evasions, their inability to face what they felt. Between despising himself and looking down on others as liars and cowards, he’d grown to adulthood with a serious chip on his shoulder. He’d donned the mask of a carefree, good looking young Scotsman, but there’d always been a streak of darkness, perhaps even repressed sadism in him, seething anger at his fellow man. Was that why he’d been one of the first to turn Unseelie prince? Had the evicted magic of the dead prince somehow sniffed it out in him and deemed him a fine fit? Had Fae power targeted him long before that night at Ban Drochaid, even before Mac had fed him Unseelie?
He shifted his wings uneasily. Fuck, he had wings. He could fly. He considered that a moment, looking for the first time past the Unseelie element of it to the simple beauty and power of having wings. The freedom. The strength.
But since the day he’d begun to grow them, he’d done nothing but bitch about the itch and the pain, the need to clean them, how he could no longer sleep flat on his back. No position was comfortable and he’d begun to fear, like a bat, he’d need to start hanging upside down to get any rest at all. And sure enough, the bloody things hurt most of the time, felt wrong on his body, kept him on constant edge.
He canted his shoulders back, expanding his Druid essence into the Fae appendages, as he accepted—nay, welcomed them—for the first time. When the world was safe again, he might fly a velvety night sky in the Highlands, watch wolves tussle in the moonlight with their cubs, soar beside a grand eagle for a few hours, glide across a silvery loch, tumble to a soft landing in a bed of heather.
Bloody hell, he had wings!
For the first time since he’d begun to transform into something otherworldly he felt…elation.
His wings responded, lifting slightly, fluttering as if with a sigh of pleasure, as if with the aloofness of a cat they’d been waiting to be noticed, stroked, appreciated. Heat raced through his body into the strong, sure sails which spread and fanned without conscious thought, the powerful muscles in his shoulders rippling smoothly, as they arced high before crossing down again to tuck behind his shoulders in a position he’d never before been able to achieve. Perfectly tucked precisely where they were made to be.
Effortless.
Neither dragging nor aching.
He shook his head with a wry smile. His wings had always known instinctively how to arrange themselves but his brain had been in the way. He’d been in the way of himself. They’d been a burden because he’d thought them a burden and now that he thought them a gift, they behaved like a gift.
He stole a glance at his companion. If he could learn to like himself and the world around him, Barrons could learn to have friends. Thanks to Dageus, the Keltar and the Nine were practically bloody married now. They’d become clan in every meaningful sense of the word. Like the Nine, the Keltar had long been insular, secretive, staying intentionally isolated. But the world had changed and neither band could afford insularity any more. There were too many risks to them all to shun shared knowledge and power.
Christian wanted friends. He’d missed having them as a lad. God damn it, at least he could have peers.
Barrons cut him an irritated look.
“What? Don’t tell me you can actually hear what I’m thinking,” Christian snapped. He wouldn’t be surprised. Barrons and his men were bizarrely attuned to people’s slightest nuances.
“I endeavor not to,” Barrons muttered. “Sometimes you infernal creatures seem to be holding a bloody megaphone to your brains.”
“What is the god’s name?” Christian changed the subject swiftly. It would be easier to be courteous if he knew something of whom he was to address.
“Culsans. They are the keeper of doorways, of gates and passages, of the underworld itself, standing bastion at all that is liminal. When they can be stirred to bother themselves. Culsu may be with him. If so, beware her blades.”
“What blades?”
“The ones I just mentioned.”
“Why is Culsans a they?”
“You’ll see.”
“Are they hideous?” Christian braced himself for the worst.
Barrons cut him a mocking look. “No more so than they may find you.”
“Well, where are they from? How do you find these old gods?”
“For fuck’s sake, shut up.”
“What the bloody hell is wrong with trying to understand my situation? Were you this much of a pain when Mac was trying to figure things out? How did she stand you?”
“She prefers me lying down. On top of her. Frequently, behind her. You want to keep talking, Highlander?”
They made their way down the long, white corridor in silence.

I don't always see the conclusions you might draw because I have so much more detail in my head."

And that "Culsans is an Etruscan God of crossroads, doorways and death, similar in some ways to Janus, or the Janus head with two faces....Culsans is often accompanied by his scissors-toting, bare-breasted companion Culsu. The nature of their relationship is poorly understood, but they seem to possibly guard the gates of the underworld together."

So maybe Dani's books might explore mythology and old gods?

oooo! interesting. That'd be pretty cool. I'd also like to see the day where Christian isn't a total bitter betty LOL. I wonder if the nine and the keltar will still be friendly with each other now that Christian took Daegus home and the world isn't ending.

lmao Christian is a grade A whiner. I like how disgusted Barrons was at Christian thinking they could be friends LOL. @Barrons being forced to socialise with humans.

Thanks for sharing Fresiako! That deleted scene really adds another dimension to Christian. Dude that would be so awesome if Dani's next book delves into the old earth gods!

June | 590 comments First when was this deleted scene added on her site? I don't follow her but if it was after this whole drama on here about people being upset that there was no resolutions to previous plots then I will be the first to state the conspiracy theory that she totally lurks on this board. lol way too much of a coincidence.
Second: why was it not included? this scene was so much better written then half the Mac inner dialoguing parts. who is editing her? editors help her! this was a fun scene and with some substance.

Great minds DO NOT think alike. Great minds THINK FOR THEMSELVES.

Since most of you will not be able to understand that statement, I'll rephrase it for you ...

Dudes, Im not a fecking sheep! Baaaaaaaaaaa

message 290: by Denisa (new)

Denisa | 32 comments In many ways, I feel like KMM is favoring the emotional development of the characters over the mythology of this series. Which is why so few questions were answered and so much energy was focused on Mac and Dani coming to terms with themselves. It's not wrong to focus on the psychological aspects of the story. But I think it would be better to balance the story by expanding on the mythology and giving some answers. I wish she had included the deleted scene in the book because it adds a nice layer to Christian and Barrons character, it answers what happened that night Christian disappears and it adds to the magical aspect of the fever world. It's such a great scene, I don't understand why she didn't include it. Also, at this point, I think it's important for the four main characters to interact with other people besides each other. So interesting to see Barrons and Christian interacting civilly, and the younger one learning from the older one.
I'm disappointed that I almost didn't get this scene but happy and appreciative of KMM for sharing it now.

Gwenynmel (missyharjo) | 2 comments soooo... this is really dumb but.. I cannot read these books. I started reading kmm in her early days and I loved them but I just can't read these. I'm not complaining about the genre, this is mostly what I read now. I think I've grown too cynical for straight romance but I cannot stand mac and cannot make it through these books. though I love so many of the characters. having said that, can someone give me a overview? with this being the last one I'd like to know how she ended it.

Emily | 215 comments Hey all, we all have our own opinions that we come to express here, and they're not always pretty or popular, but I personally draw the line at name-calling or being vengeful against KMM. As a long-time reader, I don't agree with all of the choices she's made in the delivery of the story, but it's always been my choice whether to continue reading the series or not. Unfortunately, books aren’t like clothes or other commodities that you can verify will be 100% to your taste before you make the purchase decision, and fundamentally I think it’s KMM’s right to write the story the way she wants. There’s always an element of risk that I as a reader have to accept if I want to keep on reading. I don’t know about you guys, but the fact that the Fever series has never conformed to a formula has been the very reason why I kept reading for the past 11 years in the first place.

Dude! One of my favourite quotes from young Dani!=D

KiBo, you like to be provocative which is something I, for one, appreciate. And I agree with our previous comments that there's room for a lot more varied discussion here on the board.

For a long time, this was really the only place you could find any love for Dani's character and discuss plot points related to her story, as everything was just M&B, all the time. So it's probably not surprising that a certain group of posters here mainly focus on Dani (and Ryo) as that's their main interest in the whole Fever series. Nothing wrong with that, just like there's nothing wrong with discussing about other aspects or characters of the series. People will comment on the questions or threads that resonate with them. I bet there are a lot of lurkers reading this board, so why not just jump in and get into the swing.

message 294: by Denisa (new)

Denisa | 32 comments I have been really conflicted about something since finishing the book. Does anyone have a problem with the fact that Mac is Queen of the Fae? I feel like most people have either been thrilled about this development or found it annoying because Mac seems to get all the powers. In my opinion, she has no business continuing to be Queen. For one when has Mac ever been a leader of anything? Never. She couldn't even get the Sidhe-Seers to pick her over Rowena :( And they were her own people. I know she went through a lot of issues the year she's been in Dublin, but going through hard times doesn't make you a good leader. She has never before shown interest in being in charge.

She needed the Queen's powers because the Song of Making was necessary to save the world. But now the world is saved and the power is transferable. Which leads me to two: Mac is HUMAN. She ate some Unseelie, but still, she is born and feels and thinks human. Why should the Fae have to be ruled by someone who is not one of them, especially someone who wanted to eradicate them not too long ago? Even if she is turning sort of Fae and has a manual about their history in her head she is not Fae and will never be (unless she loses her memory like the concubine and doesn't know herself as other than a fae). Like I'm just saying if an alien race that sort of looked like me came down and became my president/overlord/monarch...I would not be happy! I can't imagine the Fae being happy with this. Am I stupid for arguing for Fae self-determination? I know the queen is queen because of the power, but having and wielding power doesn't mean you are a fit ruler. Mac strikes me more as a fighter, someone who, like the 9, stays in the outskirts and comes out when the world needs her most.

The best and most moral course of action for her, in my opinion, is to give the title to another Fae female and make a compact where the Fae leave the humans/earth alone forever. For those who disagree, can you explain how I'm looking at this wrong. I really want to know if I'm just being too sensitive about this because it really has been bugging me so much. Is there something in previous books that I've overlooking?

Thank you! I couldn't agree more. I actually rather hate the thought of her being Queen. I was afraid it was going in that direction and now I pity the fae. She is in no way capable of dealing with all the castes and the problems they come to her with. If she had shown a lot more growth and learning and character growth maybe I could have gotten behind it. But this is Mac we're talking about and yeah I rolled my eyes big time. Rolled them even more at the mural. Lets hope they decide that "possible outcome" isn't for them!

I thought the same thing. Dani wanted to sleep with Ryo and because he said NO; she went to option two. When I was reading all I could think was this boy getting seconds. Ryo knew that she was going to sleep with him that night if he allowed but he also knows that she needs to have a few first times that would give her something to compare their first time in the future to. He wants he to be able to say that his love is different from her past loves.

Yodamom Finished, loved it.
Everyone seemed changed, but I saw them as changed by circumstances, their world is ending. The really enjoyed the touch of emotion each one released, anger, fear, hate, love remorse...they grabbed what was left that they could reach and used it.
Cruce, him being alive stumped me. How ? Where is he ? What is in his future ? Wait, why does he have a future ?
Alina- she was a waste of space for me I never appreciated her character.
Dani, dang it ! That girl has suffered some emotional blows. I look forward to seeing her with Ryo or.... ?
I would have liked another sentence of two on the painting.

High Voltage!! Ha! Can't help it, this title will now and forever remind me of this song.

I'm liking the title though, it promises lots of action! But another time jump... why bother doing another one of those unless the point is to really make her more mature than someone in their early 20s... So maybe she will be late 20s/early 30s in this one.

message 300: by Saphia (new)

Saphia | 76 comments She probably needs time to move on from Dancers death. It would be unrealistic if a month after his death, she and Ryodan get it on.
Also I like the though of a time jump. Every other book has left off - give or take a month - where the other has ended.
So if it's been a year or two, it'll be good to see how the world and it's people are fairing.

Random Questions/Ramblings I have about Feversong and the next book.....

1. How will the world be running? Who's running it? Because it'll probably be Ryodan Lol. Being the control freak he is.
2. Btw is Christian still alive? He was Unseelie so.... ?
3. Will we still get Mac and Barrons in the next story, of course I still want it to be a Dani and Ryodan, but they'll be in the background right?
4. Will Mac turn Cold like an Unseelie? Will her emotions leave or, or because she's still human, will she retain her humanity.... kind of like Christian?
5. Anyone think it's cool that Dani with her left hand, can cast stronger and better spells? I remember on this board, we were wondering how her killing a Hunter would come into play, I'm glad we found out!
6. Anyone think Ryodan will turn Jada into a Beast? She said she want to be immortal and Ryodan has definitly wants to change her so she can't die. Though I don't think it'll happen, she'll probably drink the Elixer. What does everyone else think?
7. In Feversong, I found it funny that Barrons didn't know that Macs runes could prevent a Fae from Sifting. I somehow believed he would just know.
8. When Dani chops of Ryodans head - Enough Said.
9. Lol when Jada texts Barrons in Caps LK and he's all like don't because it sounds like you're shouting back and me and then he does it to her.
10. Inspector Jane is a Unseelie Prine, I wonder who else has turned?
11. When Dani cried infront of Dancer when she was stiting cross legged on the street and then Ryodan leaves the store and looks very very angry. Was it because she could cry in front of Dancer and not him or becuase she was crying in general?
12. So when Barrons inhaled the Sinsar Dubh from the Unseelie Princess. Is that how The Nine kill Fae. They literally French Kiss the life out of them Lol.
13. The mural in BB&B was of Mac and Barrons!!!! OMG!!!!! Her with a Crown, Queen. Him with Wings, Unseelie King!!!!! Since the Unseelie King has quit, will Barrons turn into the Unseelie King. So I wonder if he turnd into the UK, will the spear or sword be able to kill him. Because essentially he'll be part Fae I think? But he's still the Beast so I wonder if that'll become a weakness to him or not?
14. As for the next book, because it's about Dani and Ryodan we'll hopefully get to know more about The Nine since we'll be in Ryodans World. Whearas Barrons is more apart from the rest of The Nine. Also KMM said because she was wrapping everything up in Macs book she couldn't revisit any of the previous story line she wanted to revisit. Like Kasteo. Kat and can't remember her lover??? Btw was he being turned into an Unseelie or Seelie???
What about her Baby- is it even Seans or a part Cruce's? And will Kasteo ever speak??
If this book is maybe a few years later from Feversong, has Dani been sleeping with other people and Ryodan knows?
Also has Dani even been in Dublin since then. I mean she said that you only get one chance with her, and since he pushed her away will she maybe have spent a few years away from him and only comes back when trouble does?

I adored the charatcer development we had between Mac and Barrons in this book. One of the reasons I loved Shadowfever was because we got a lot of develoment in that book! But this has trumped it for me. Don't get me wrong, I loved Savage Mac but I Love who Mac is now. She's finally sure of who she is and what she wants.
