The book was hysterical. Although it does contain some disparaging and prejudicial passages about native americans.

L J | 714 comments Newest J.D. Robb Eve Dallas book, narrated by Susan Ericksen.
Vendetta in Death (In Death #49) by J.D. Robb Vendetta in Death is more "how do we catch 'em" than "who done it" with most series characters appearing onstage police since the book takes place in a short time period. There were offstage scenes mentioned so we get to catch up with some characters not onstage. Murders are too graphically violent for this one to be considered a cozy.
Urgent investigation leaves little time for sex but Roarke shows his love by reminding Eve to eat, providing coffee and getting her clothes ready for her so she has time to shower. I really appreciated this. It made sense. In a fantasy novel I read recently quest is paused for sex scenes while people continue to die, possibly several per day, until quest is completed.

Archangel's War by Nalini Singh Archangel's War comes out September 24 and I wanted to read something in the Guild Hunter world before jumping into it.

L J | 714 comments Not cozy mystery in my point of view.
Familiar Trouble (Familiar Legacy, #1) by Carolyn Haines Familiar Trouble by Carolyn Haines is the first book in the Familiar Legacy series. The books are written by various authors, some I've liked, some were not my thing. This one unfortunately falls into the second category. To me it is more suspense thriller than cozy mystery. Unfortunately I am not a big fan of suspense thriller or serial killer books.
This series is spin off from earlier Fear Familiar series Haines wrote as Caroline Burnes for Harlequin Intrigue.
ETA: Since reading this I read two more in the series. Both of those books are by Rebecca Barrett and are on my cozy list, though they have a bit more romance than most cozies.

message 790: by Ramla Zareen (new)

Ramla Zareen Ahmad | 107 comments I recently read Sophie Kinsella's latest publication: I Owe You One I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella and was pleasantly surprised.

I say this because I was a big fan of Sophie Kinsella at one time. The first five or six books of her Shopaholic series and her standalones:
—Twenties Girl
—The Undomestic Goddess
—Can You Keep a Secret?
. . . are among my favourite romantic comedies. (Saving I've Got Your Number for later to read as a special treat. My friend assures me it's as good as the books I mentioned above :-)

But then her writing just seemed to have lost its spark. The later books of her Shopaholic series didn't appeal much, and her standalone: Wedding Night actually felt like it was written by someone else! I simply stopped reading her books altogether.

I'm glad I picked up I Owe You One, though. It wasn't a five-star read, but I could see some of her original spark in the book. Looks like I'm going to get my favourite romcom author back after all :-)

I really liked the Night Huntress series. Kat & Bones were quite the pair. Have never been able to get as interested in the spin-offs.
