Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments Sarah, do you have a post office box somewhere for your mail? All the times we've talked about you living on a boat, it never occurred to me until you mentioned "no fixed address".

Sarah | 18550 comments Cody wrote: ".that's really cool :) it would be a nightmare for me with mollie though! "

You'd be surprised how many people living on boats have a dog. Dogs seem to love boats. I've lost count of the times other people's dogs have got on our boat. Also when moving, they like to sit/stand at the front or back and watch what's going on. That said we knew a couple on a boat who had a dog which hated other dogs and it was a nightmare. Everyone brings their dogs for walks along the towpath so they need to be ok with other dogs. They ended up never letting it out which is so unfair on the dog. They moved off the canal as they weren't really cut out for the lifestyle and they rehomed the dog.

i can see that, like a less hardcore version of sticking their heads out of car windows.

Have fun. All the books I want to read are in GR but I did that gradually. I couldn't imagine sitting and doing all that in one go..

message 4460: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I have all the books I know I want to read in there too. But it's a neverending job ;-)

Do you have a list saved somewhere else now Saar?

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments How did you like your experience with Eritrean food, Peggy. I like it quite well now, but at first I was unsure because of my unfamiliarity with the injera flat bread made from teff flour and the spiciness of berebere seasoning. It sometimes gives me reflux unfortunately. We have several excellent Eritrean restaurants here.

message 4462: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I think we have three in all of the Netherlands, haha!

I liked it a lot. I had a bit of it some months ago when I was at her place around lunch time. I had to get used to the injera too, but I like it a lot when it's combined with the other food. She had chicken-berbere last time too and it was quite spicy and I told her it was just borderline for me, so she took that into account this time ;-) We also had a vegetable dish that I don't remember the name of, and we had shiro which was really good too.

I actually felt bad about the dinner. She had two of her wisdom teeth pulled the day before and was in a lot of pain and couldn't really eat herself, and still spent over 2 hours in the kitchen making all the food.

I told her my bf and I love to try out new foods and now she said she will make it again in a few weeks so I can take it home and he can try it too.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments OMG! Pearl Jam AND Foo Fighters are headlining a music festival close to where I live. I've been there often but not so much the last years because the line-up was pretty bad sometimes. And I'm slowly starting to feel too old (or too attached to small comforts) to get hardly any sleep, sleep in a small tent, not shower, and visit disgusting portable toilets for 3 days.

The last time Pearl Jam played there was in 2000, also the first time I visited the festival. They have been rumoured to come several times since and it was even announced once or twice, but it never happened. FF have played a few times but they're always fun to see.

message 4464: by Cody (new)

Cody | 348 comments I cant speak to pearl Jam but FF are, like you said, brilliant live. I think I may have seen them 4 or 5 times. Grohl is a brilliant front man

message 4465: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments The meal sounds lovely. A shame she couldn't eat much of it.

That is very exciting about Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters. Very jealous. I do love Pearl Jam. I saw them when I was 16 at Wembley Arena. I agree about festivals. I haven't been to a large one for a long time as they are crazy to manoeuvre around the place and the noise at night is awful. In the last 10 years, we've been to smaller festivals (10000 people) which have been better. We've also started camping in the family camping area even though we have no kids as it tends to be quieter (apart from the kids up early screaming and playing outside your tend when you're hungover). Or I've worked at the festivals as the crew camping is always far superior with decent toilets and they cater for you too so you save a bit of money on food. We're having a couple years off festivals for a while as we're all festivalled out plus the same bands were showing up on the line up. I would like to go to Glastonbury to say I've been. Same for Download. Some day. I did think that going to a festival abroad might be quite cool as you get a holiday and to see bands.

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm off down to Bournemouth for the weekend doing my hypno teaching assistant gig. Looking forward to it as always. Next weekend I have my parents visiting as they are bringing up our xmas presents so we have them on xmas day. There is absolutely no way I'm going to have theirs ready for then. What with going away this weekend, I have no time to go shopping plus I have no idea what to get them anyway. They are hopeless to buy for. Over the last few years I've bought my dad some kind of experience but I've not seen anything reasonably priced this time around. And whilst looking, I found the flying trapeze thing for myself. Best start doing some gophering for xmas presents online!

Saar The Book owl | 2653 comments @Sarah: I'll do it gradually too. Not all at once, but when I have time.

@Peggy: I have no digital list on my netbook. It's all written in my notebook.
Which festival is it? Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are coming in Belgium and I hope to go. They are so good! But I'm hoping to see Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters to. Last June Eddy Vedder played solo here.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Saar, it's Pinkpop. Is Nick Cave coming to Werchter?

I've never seen Eddie Vedder solo, but I would like to!

Has anyone ever seen this? It's Eddie Vedder and Johnny Depp performing together. They are both pretty nice (quite the understatement ;-)) to look at in my opinion, and then when they play guitar together, o la la! I have to admit that I started to dislike Johnny Depp a little in recent years, but I'll just not think of that for 5 minutes.

Back at my previous job I had a colleague who shared my preferences in music and men, and we spent a lot of time watching this video ;-)

edit: I'm now wondering if I haven't posted this here like 10 times already. If so, I'm (not really) sorry.

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments In a couple of hours, a few of my friends are coming to my house for a Christmas Drink and Bake day. Each of us will attempt to make about 4 dozen cookies to swap. Each will be bringing a beverage of choice. We could be napping by noon.

I baked a bunch of sugar cookies yesterday so that we could ice and decorate them at some point during the day. It could be interesting how 4 drunk women would decorate them. It was the first time baking in my oven and I burnt the first batch. II saved some of the better ones... after all, charcoal is supposed to be good for your stomach. The second batch was much better.

ha :) i bought my dad 2 season tickets for our local football team for his 60th. when i gave them to him, the conversation went 'just go with your friends if you need someone to go with, i will' he replied 'no its ok you and i can go to them'

i dont really follow football so i was a bit annoyed at the time but now i love it, i cannot belive how involved i get at the matches!

we are in division 6 of the english leagues which means we are about 120th overall

Janice (jamasc) | 60073 comments The day after....

The drink and bake was fun! There were 4 of us and we each baked around 4 dozen of whatever we were baking. There were mini butter tarts, almond cookies, shortbread cookies, and krumkake (sp). I had also prebaked sugar cookies that we could decorate when we were good and liquored up. Speaking of that, we drank RumChata. Edinburgh Raspberry Gin, Amarula, Eggnog, home made Lemoncello, store bought Lemoncello from Italy, and home made mead.

My house has been christened.
