KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I like the sound of your crocheting class, jmom. Hopefully they will come up with enough people. I should look into a crafting class. I think they do them at Joann sometimes. It sounds fun.

I know Sarah has the wedding to attend this weekend, anyone else have any exciting plans?

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Glad to hear you're doing good jmom! Hope you can do your crochet class.

I had a marathon dread-combing session today. From 9am to 9pm with only 2 hours of breaks in between, together with my mom. Pfew, that was tough at times! But worth it. I did 20 or so in the past two weeks in the evenings at home, had 18 and lots of tiny bits near my head when we started this morning, and now I have 6 and a few tiny bits left. The tiny bits hurt the most though.

The class I'm looking at is through Joann :) Mine's cancelled, but there are two more coming up so maybe one of those will get enough people. Maybe I'll go find an unfinished cross stitch project - it would be at least 16 years old by now :)

Peggy - Yikes! At least the combing out is almost over. Are you going to reward yourself when it's done?

message 1955: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Almost there, Peggy! At least the whole process hasn't been painful. Look for those silver linings! lol.

@J'mom, a girl I worked with was new in the area and did a cake decorating class with her husband at our local JoAnn so they could meet some people from the area. They were the only ones that took it! It was just them and the little old lady that was the instructor. They said it was still fun even though they didn't get to meet anyone besides the instructor.

I'll post a picture after a visit to the hairdresser on tuesday :)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I had to go and have an MRI head scan a couple of hours ago, which was an interesting experience. It had been playing on my mind a bit beforehand so I'm just glad it's done and out of the way. Just got to wait for the results now.

I had one done a few years back. So strange with the weird cage around your head. And the scanner is so loud. It made me feel like I was at a rave with the loud rhythmic noise. Fingers crossed for the results.

message 1969: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm back from Bournemouth after my cousin's wedding. It was a fantastic day. Got to spend lots of time with my family, especially my cousins, which was great. I was pampered with my nails, makeup and hair being done. The weather was great although it was quite cold especially when we were having the photos done. The bride looked amazing. So all in all a great day.

After the reception, I went out to a club with my partner, my cousin and another wedding guest. We didn't get back to our room until 3.30am. Yesterday was a total write off. I felt so awful. I really did not need to drink that much. There wasn't much food at the wedding but a lot of alcohol which is a bad combination.

Luckily I have today and tomorrow off work so I can just chill out a bit. I had hoped to do some coursework today but I think I might need to wait until my brain works a bit better.

Lol, I thought the same thing about being at a gig. It was way louder than I expected it to be. I was told I wouldn't get the results for 10-14 days so playing the waiting game now.

Glad you had a good time, Sarah. Sounds like it's just as well you don't have to work today or tomorrow ;) Take it easy!

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Sarah wrote: "Waiting for results sucks. It's one of the most annoying things about tests I think."

I know! I'm not too worried, the consultant who referred me already has a good idea of what I am likely suffering from, but there are a couple of other conditions with similar symptoms that he needs to rule out using the MRI scan.

message 1974: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Ah I see. Well that's good. At least once they know for definite what it is they can help treat it better.

message 1978: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60078 comments I've had two MRI's. One on my knee and the other was head. The loudness of the machine was the worst for me. I have a friend who is claustrophobic and it was major anxiety for her to have one.

I hope the results are good, Lisa.

message 1979: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Is an MRI or a CT scan what they give you for a concussion. I've had tons if them

message 1980: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I can't really remember being inside the machine. Because I had a concussion. Lol

CT Scans are generally used for concussions.

message 1982: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments That's what I was thinking Janice. I don't think I've had an MRI.

message 1983: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments MRIs are fascinating. I had to study them lots at uni as they were the new tech when I started. By the time I had finished uni 4 years later there were two new imaging techniques they were spruiking. Way to make you feel obsolete at 21.

I believe it's all the magnets spinning that makes the noise. I haven't had one myself yet, but had to talk my Mum through one beforehand, as she has mild claustrophobia and anxiety.

Lol Travis, if you've had loads, and are on the US healthcare system, I'm assuming they were CATs which are rather inexpensive. Compared to MRIs which are expensive even on the Aus universal healthcare system.

Besides the noise, I'm glad yours went well, Lisa. Here's hoping the results are all good!

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Glad to hear the wedding was everything hoped for. Hope you are feeling better now. It is so easy to overdo it, especially when you are having a grand time.

I hope you get good news from the MRI, Lisa!

@Peggy, be sure to let the hair stylist wash your hair when you go. The way they massage your head when washing it with yummy smelling shampoo and conditioner, it is just heavenly!

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Just heard there was a suspected terror attack at the Manchester Arena in Manchester last night. A lone suicide bomber detonated a device just outside the arena following an Ariana Grande concert. 22 are confirmed dead (some of them children) and a further 59 have been injured, some of them seriously. Terrible. Just terrible :(

Sarah | 18550 comments It was 2 months to the day that the one happened in London. The date is pretty coincidental.

message 1991: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Sarah wrote: "It was 2 months to the day that the one happened in London. The date is pretty coincidental."

I thought that too. It was also the anniversary of the murder of Lee Rigby, the soldier who was killed on the streets of London by those two terrorists back in 2013.

What's even more chilling is supporters of Islamic State have been praising the attack on social media, saying this attack is just the beginning and there are more where it came from. I guess they say those things after every attack but it's still scary to think what could be around the corner. It seems nowhere is safe.

message 1992: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments And 4 years to the day of the killing of the soldier in London.

I've been watching it all day. I heard it on the 9am news as I was pulling into work. I ran upstairs and switched on everything on my computer. My cousin lives in Manchester, and we'll be staying with her in July.

I just watched the death and injury toll roll up and up, and heard more and more stories. It actually hit me pretty hard which I was surprised by. Even the Sydney attack we had 2 years ago didn't hit me this hard, even when I had friends and family work on that Place.

I worked it out though. For me, those accents are my family. They are so different to anything over here, and they are special to me. None of my friends' family sound like that, most of them can't understand them! And one of the first interviews I heard was a man upset and shaken, and he sounded a bit like Dad. Those accents are supposed to be laughter, and fun, and love, and support. Not terror and devastation and despair.

Cousin checked in at 4pm my time when she woke up as safe. She had no idea, as she was asleep. I hope everyone and theirs are safe. And big virtual hug to everyone, particularly if you're feeling a bit shaken like me.

message 1993: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11668 comments Sick. I also woke up to the news this morning and can't stop watching sky news since. IS have just claimed responsibility. Like it's something to be proud of.

message 1994: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Virtual hugs all round. Pleased to hear your cousin is safe Rusalka. I do not have any family or friends in Manchester thankfully so i do not have anyone close to worry about. That said, I thought that for the London attack and my cousin was there but fine. So I think I'll keep my mouth shut now. London shocked me more because it's closer to me and I'm more familiar with it than Manchester but I'm still a bit shaken. Too close to home for my liking.

IS will always comment on things like this whether they're responsible for it or not. I really don't think all of the attacks are by the same organisation. I get the impression that it's just people working alone. We just have to hope this is not a sign of things to come.

message 1995: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I take that back IS have claimed responsibility for the attack.

message 1996: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Glad your cousin is safe, Rusalka.

Yes, IS have claimed responsibility. They are saying on the news that may or may not be true because they often claim responsibility for attacks, whether they carried them out or not. I'm just waiting for the police and security services to say the attacker was known to them, like the London attackers were. At the moment, they are saying they know the attacker's identity but not that they were watching him.

They have just said that the youngest victim was primary school age, around 7 or 8 years old.

Even if IS are not responsible, they are still praising it. They are totally sick!

message 1998: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments I understand Sarah. London was just after I visited for the first time, and my cousin who is now in Manchester and her sister were in London, and went to work on those lines.

It's just all horrid.

message 1999: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yes, some of these events do affect you more than others. This one hit me pretty hard because it's so random and a place where I could be. Not Ariana Grande necessarily, but a concert. I'm going to a concert tomorrow, and I refuse to not do fun stuff in crowded place just because these things happen, and I know the chance of something like this happening tomorrow is basically 0, but still I don't feel completely at ease.

message 2000: by Peggy (last edited May 23, 2017 06:17AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments On a different note, I went to the hairdresser today!

This is before

And after

The hairdresser put some stuff in to make it more curly, so that may will probably disappear after washing. Unless I buy the stuff and do it myself, but I'll see first what it looks like when it's just natural.
