Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments As a tailor's daughter though, you can always make a dress smaller. Making it bigger though, is not always possible.

Sarah | 18550 comments We're wearing flat sandals as the wedding is on a sandy beach. Thankfully. I am no good in heels. The dress needs taking up and taken in at the back. Going to cost £40. I hope she doesn't mess it up as I'll only get it back 5 days before the wedding. Talk about last minute.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Strapless bras are the worst! Especially if they don't fit just right. They are either so tight you can't breathe or too loose so they keep sliding down. Can you get by with just wearing pasties? I've never worn them, but I will probably buy some before the next time I have to wear something strapless.

Janice is right, Rusalka, you do have the best adventures! :)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments "Impulsive and uncoordinated Rusalka blunders through life, leaving a trail of hilarity and destruction in her wake." Not quite sure I'd read that book.

On the book blurb theme, some one did the stats on the top 100 list of the mystery and thriller list that goodreads just put out. Interesting observations about diversity http://bookriot.com/2017/05/05/a-deep...

Sarah | 18550 comments I definitely need a bra with this dress. It's really low cut. A guess it's a plunge type neck line. I would not be comfortable without a bra. I wasn't happy about a strapless one. I wanted to go for a halter neck but none of them were low enough at the front. So strapless it is. But I'm not a fan.

I hate strapless bras too. I don't think I have ever found one that fits properly. I don't know if it's just me, but it seems to be getting harder and harder to find any bra that's comfortable and fits like it's meant to. It's like the sizing has gone completely to pot.

Sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you, Peggy! It will be worth it in the end though :)

message 1763: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I hope so! For the past 7 years I've considered taking them out several times but was always too scared to do it. But I'm just going to do it now! It's a bit weird and sad, it's sort of my trademark, and many people I know have never known me without.

Oh, just realized I have about 38 still to go. Not sure how that happened, I'm sure I had around 60 in the beginning.

I'm sure it will. It's always scary to change things up, particularly when we are really used to something, but I think a change does us the world of good sometimes.

message 1765: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19326 comments Yikes, Peggy! That's a lot of work. I'm sure it's not comfortable to do either. Is there any way you could cut off some of the length before combing out to give you less to comb through or would that make it too short for what you're going for? I'm sure it will look great when it's done and that it will take some people (and you!) some time to get used to it. I don't think I ever knew that you had dreadlocks. I've never been brave enough to do something bold with my hair. I just enjoy it on other people.

message 1766: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm cutting it until 30-35 cm. I don't want it shorter because I'm afraid I will end up with too short hair after a visit to the hairdresser.

I'm going to do some myself in the next two weeks in not so visible places, and then my mom is going to help for a weekend to finish it.

message 1767: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19326 comments Good luck! It is quite a process. Hope to see a pic of the new hairstyle once you're all done.

message 1768: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Surely that must hurt too Peggy? I know that when my hair has dreaded up (before I got an undercut) It would not only take me ages to brush out but would hurt like hell. And that wasn't even fully formed dreads. Good luck with all that. I can imagine it will take a time to get used to it but I'm sure it will look great. And if you decide you miss them and want them back, you can always do them again. Not tempted to just shave it all off them to save some time?! ;-)

message 1769: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I've just moved up to improvers adult swimming lessons now. Go me. I was thinking about stopping and then just going swimming by myself but I like the supportive nature of the lessons and the advice. So I'll go to improvers for a couple months.

Speaking of hair, I'm off for a trim on the hair salon boat on Friday ahead of a hen party on Saturday and my cousin's wedding the following week. I've also got to have henna done on my hands and feet which i'm looking forward to as i've not had it done before.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Oh wow Peggy! Sad but I understand wanting to mix it up. 13 years is a good run, and if you miss them, you can always dred your hair again. Although the amount of time taking them out may not make you want to hehe!

Is your hair really frizzy after combing it? I know when mine get's a bit matted and I brush it out, I look like I shoved my finger in a power point!

That's great, Sarah! Well done you! :)

Let us know how you get on with the henna. I have never had it done, but I am always tempted because I think it looks really nice when it's done. Is your cousin having it done for the wedding for cultural or religious reasons or does she just think they look nice?

Lol, that sounds like my hair, Rusalka. It's not been anywhere near as bad since I had it cut short though, so that's yet another bonus point for short hair.

message 1773: by Peggy (last edited May 08, 2017 05:44AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments The only parts that hurt are the parts very close to my head. The rest is not so bad. I just put heaps of conditioner in and use a fork to get it untangled. Pretty painless :) The hair that falls out is unbelievable though! If you saw only that you'd think I was bald.

It's not as frizzy as I thought it would be, but that's just my unpractised eye. Definitely looks less nice than other people's hair though. I hope it will be a bit better after I wash them tonight.

Lots of haircare products for me once I get them all out! And I have to find a hairdresser.

Well done on moving up with the swimming lessons Sarah!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments Good work on moving up in the swimming lessons, Sarah! I can understand staying with the lessons if you've got good teachers. Again, teachers make all the difference!

message 1776: by Sarah (last edited May 08, 2017 06:09AM) (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments @Lisa - my cousin's father is Sikh. The wedding is basically a very typical British wedding. It just has a few Indian touches here and there. All the bridesmaids and the bride are getting the henna done. I think we are just getting one hand and one foot and I think she's getting both hand and both feet but I'm not sure. Ill post a picture when it's been done.

@Rusalka - totally agree about teachers. The teacher I have has been excellent. She didn't used to be able to swim either and had adult swimming lessons and now she teaches it. She has only been swimming 4 years! It's pretty inspirational and I think her experiences of learning as an adult have really helped her to understand and therefore teach others perhaps better than someone who learnt to swim as a kid.

message 1777: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments It's hard when you learn something as a kid, as you usually can't remember the learning process, and things just seem innate.

I remember asking my friends to help me as I didn't learn to swim until I was about 7. That is really old for Australians. I wanted my friends to teach me, but they couldn't explain it at all. You just swim!

The henna sounds lovely! Would love photos too. I thought my friend would get henna for her Hindu wedding we went to last year, but no. She had to soak in a saffron bath for an afternoon before we got there to cleanse herself. Having darker skin, we only noticed slightly when she mentioned it. Me, I would have looked like I got into a bath of food colouring!

message 1778: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60075 comments I think the henna is so cool. We'll definitely want pictures, Sarah.

That's quite the process in taking the dreadlocks out, Peggy. It will probably take a bit for your hair to recover.

message 1779: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'll be sure to post pictures. I@m getting it done 3 days before the wedding but the very next day I have a swimming lesson. I might need to buy some latex gloves to wear to stop it from getting ruined. It might be fine but just in case.

A saffron bath would definitely be a disaster for fair skin. Not a good look for a wedding day.

One of the things I didn't like about the choosing of the thriller/mystery books was that they aren't always the same thing. Three are a lot of good mysteries that aren't thrillers. And there are a lot of mysteries that aren't serious. Cozy Mystery Corner, another group I'm in, participated in selecting our favorites. Cozies are just that, easy to read, and are a subgenre of mysteries. The authors are predominately female, so there is a possibly misleading part of the author statistics. There should have been categories instead of lumping them all together.

It sounds like that's going to be a busy weekend, but hopefully fun time with your mom (fun might not be the right word). And then a picture for us that might resemble something other than a panda - I still can't see that :)

message 1783: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I've been going nuts the past few days. I've had plumbing problems lately with toilets not flushing off and on and tub draining reeaalllly slow. Had Roto-Rooter out yesterday and they got the clog, but the tub is because the open/shut valve is getting stuck in the closed position (and I don't ever close it, I'm a shower person). It was such a nice few days that I've been leaving my car in the driveway with the windows down. I've been spending too many days not sleeping enough so after RR left I fell asleep for 24 hours. Wake up to rain - had been for hours and hours. Then, I thought Roto-Rooter messed up between the toilet wouldn't flush and no water in sink. They hadn't - I had no water. Checked with my neighbor and they didn't have any either. There was a water main break in my neighborhood about an hour before I got up. Too much water outside and none inside. Finally back on around 10 pm but now I've got to boil water for any personal use. That made my decision on what to have for dinner - eating out. That's when I spewed salad across the table at a hilarious point in the book I'm reading (Femme). I have spent the evening drinking wine and am thinking about brushing my teeth with it instead of using my bottled water :) I have two pots on the deck hopefully filling up with rainwater to heat up because I don't care if I boil it - brown water doesn't look appetizing. Than goodness I'm going to a friend's tomorrow - I can shower there!

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Funny also disgusting henna story. Have to share, lol!

About 10 years ago, I got henna stains on top of my hands at a fun, local festival. As advised, I applied sugar, lemon juice paste to seal the henna tattoo.

I awoke a few hours later with a large American tree roach munching away on this concoction on my hand. I screamed and flung it wildly across the room, and then went and took a shower!

Loved the henna tattoo, but haven't ever done another one as yet. Can't forget that feeling of being munched on in the middle of the night.

That was at our old, cool house in central Austin next to a creek with huge live oaks all over the property. And lots of big, tree roaches. Shudder, lol!

Dreamt I reread ASoIaF and was just finishing the fifth book anticipating the release of book 6 when GRRM died. In his will he said book 6 wasn't wuite done and no author would finish it. He wasn't having Brandon Sanderson finish his story. He was terribly sorry to all his fans but there will be no book 6 or 7. Wait did I say dream I meant nightmare

message 1800: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I've stopped in a couple times the last several days and started to write out comments, but then would get distracted and never finished/posted them. I remember I wanted to comment on some posts, but I don't have the initiative to go back and reread everything to remember what I wanted to say right now. Maybe later. I'm just having trouble concentrating right now. I've been waiting on my boss to confirm some numbers with his boss for me so I could finish up my financial reports for the previous month. He came in my office not long ago and said "we took this project to # and that project to ##, right?" and I say yes, then start looking at my spreadsheets and have a mild panic attack because those #'s aren't what I'm looking at and that is what's supposed to be there! Then I realize I'm looking at the information wrong and I'm backtracking trying to explain to my boss why I was confused and he's just giving me this look like "shit, she's completely screwed this up."

I'm blaming it on lack of sleep. I've tossed, turned, and had wild & crazy dreams for the last three nights. No book related dreams like Travis that I recall, but lots and lots of ridiculous and upsetting things. I went to bed at like 7:30 last night just because I was so exhausted but I don't feel much better today.
