Barbara (cinnabarb) | 10022 comments I finished Bad Blood Bad Blood (Intercrime, #2) by Arne Dahl by Arne Dahl

In this Scandinavian thriller an American serial killer - who uses a torture/murder technique perfected by a perp called the 'Kentucky Killer' - makes his way to Sweden. Stockholm's 'Intercrime Squad' gets the job of tracking him down. Good mystery. 3 stars

This was a favorite of mine too! I love Karin Slaughter's writing. I notice for some reason the book is listed as first in a series, but it's a standalone book. I'm going to try to clean up the data on that.

Sandysbookaday (taking a step back for a while) (sandyj21) | 4770 comments Although The 9 45 to Bletchley (Dudley Sisters Saga #4) by Madalyn Morgan The 9:45 to Bletchley by Madalyn Morgan was classified as a historical mystery/ thriller, I didn't find it particularly mysterious or thrilling. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 10022 comments I finished Anatomy of a Scandal Anatomy of a Scandal by Sarah Vaughan by Sarah Vaughan.

A British member of parliament is caught up in a sexual scandal, leading to an accusation of rape. This has wide-reaching ramifications for himself, his wife, and the prosecuting attorney. Good suspense novel.....but too much naval-gazing by the characters. 3 stars.

I thought this was a series. When she first wrote it she had it as a stand alone. Then she added another book .05 Last breath after this one and changed it into a series. Charlie is the main character in this series. I just looked and it is not listed as a series. Which makes me upset because I bought Last Breath thinking this is a series. I just wasted money on that. Its a novella which I never buy unless it is a series by Karin Slaughter. That is so wrong for her to act like this is a series when its not.

I don't think she ever represented that this was anything but a standalone. She described it as such in a note on the book page here and it is listed as a standalone on her website. Likewise Last Breath is listed as a short story on her website. I think someone here on GR added the information that inaccurately described it as a series.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 10022 comments I finished In This Grave Hour In This Grave Hour (Maisie Dobbs, #13) by Jacqueline Winspear by Jacqueline Winspear

In this 13th addition to the Maisie Dobbs series, WWII is just beginning and private detective Maisie investigates the deaths of Belgian refugees who came to England during WWI. Good historical mystery. 3 stars.

Prakash | 52 comments Over the last few weeks, I finished 5 books by Brad Smith Brad Smith - 3 books in the Virgil Cain series and 2 in the Carl Burns.

I have fallen in love with Brad Smith.

He writes superbly, relieving the tension with occasional humorous asides. His protagonists are quite human - they don't single handedly wipe out all the opposition. His situations are quite everyday - one can visualize getting caught up in them oneself.

Not for Brad Smith the senseless violence and the outlandish plots. I hope he keeps Virgil and Carl alive and active.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 10022 comments I finished Depraved Heart Depraved Heart (Kay Scarpetta, #23) by Patricia Cornwell by Patricia Cornwell

In this 23rd book in the series, medical examiner Kay Scarpetta is convinced that both Carrie Grethen (an evil criminal) and the FBI are out to take down herself and her tech genius niece Lucy. The plot is unbelievable to me and it seems like the author has gone off the rails with this book. 2 stars.
