Torture porn is the new black.

Of course, it may just be that I've only had 3.5 hours of sleep, so then everything is funny because I'm punchy!

Tried to finish mangle street murders by m r c kasasian and omg it was terrible so terrible I didn't want to even get to the end this is the worst book I have read in a while characters are awful the main character the detective is supposed to be based on Sherlock Holmes just that he lacks everything that Sherlock Holmes had as in a real person with faults whereas this Sidney grice is just a poser and cruel and just down right horrible also his sidekick is a naive annoying woman who has a "past" which I find irritating as I just don't like her or feel any sympathy for.so yeah this author is a no no for me
Just finished a debut by Aussie author Anna Snoekstra. Only Daughter is about a young woman impersonating a girl who disappeared in Canberra many years earlier.

I finished The Trespasser
by Tana French. This sixth book in the Dublin Murder Squad series can be read as a standalone. In this story newbie murder detectives Antoinette Conway and Steve Moran investigate the case of a beautiful woman killed in her home. Though the boyfriend is a strong suspect the partners want to investigate further.....even though other cops pressure them to close the case. Good book but not among Tana French's best. 3 stars.

I'm reading The Cocktail Waitress by James M. Cain with my pulp fiction group. This may be Cain's sleaziest novel ever.

This is frustrating. There was an Australian movie with a very similar subject. But it was out a couple of years ago. I'll have to wait until the missus wakes up and she can maybe remember the title. The actress playing a similar role was fantastic and we've seen her in other things since... hmmmm

My problem was trying to remember anyone in the movie.. lol... I've since asked the missus and the movie is In Her Skin, based on a true story. Now that I've read the synopsis of Only Daughter, it sounds somewhat different. But In Her Skin was excellent and based on a true story. Rachel Bradley, an Irish actress, plays the main character and she is fantastic.

Firstly, let me mention, I am a mad film buff, and a book with great information of the heyday of Hollywood will always go down well with me. How some readers have given this book one star I do not know.
A rodeo, rope throwing champion, a Academy Award winning actor, a stuntman, but also a really nice fella as the title mentions.
A cowboy who really did not like violence in films, hated nudity in films, swearing did not like to swear in films. Although his most successful films had all these, and was not really proud of them.
He called "The Last Picture Show" as his dirty film, the one he won the AA for !
This author has researched tremendously, with great information of his early work as a stuntman, to his work with many great films stars and directors, especially John Ford, not a nice man.
His passion for horses, his stunt work, he enjoyed riding horses much more than reading lines for his film roles.
His great love and loyalty to his wife and to many life long friends, especially to another actor Harry Carey Jr.
The stories of so many great like John Wayne, the stories of John Ford, Tyrone Power and all the great actors/stuntman working in the many westerns.
His love of running his ranches, horse riding, his joint ventures with John Wayne, his success in his later years.
Over a hundred dedicated pages on his filmography, the casts.
A very interesting and informative book. Five stars from me.
Still reading The Cocktail Waitress. I know I'm going to be the one person in the universe who isn't impressed with this book.

Me too. I've been known to be the little fish swimming against the tide. I wouldn't say it's not readworthy, but it's very, very different than my favorite Cain novels, almost to the point of not even sounding like Cain.

I finished The Gray Man

Author David Baldacci is such a popular writer that I decided to try one of his books - perhaps I chose the wrong one.Memory Man disappointed me so much that I gave it only a couple of stars.
But I have a question for other people who have read it. My review and the question

I finished Please Don't Tell
by Elizabeth Adler. There's a serial killer loose in San Francisco. Dr. Vivi Dexter happens to treat a victim who survived the attack.....and finds herself acquainted with various people hunting the murderer. This romantic suspense novel is heavy on the romance and light on the mystery.
That said, I didn't dislike the book as much as most reviewers. 3 stars.

Just finished reading Find Her by Lisa Gardner which was the final book in the series. I enjoyed the series very much so I'm just wondering if any of you could please give me advice on a series that I might enjoy. I have a hard time finding books to read based on reviews because if it starts slowly I have a hard time continuing. For example I have heard great things about The Girl on the Train, but I just couldn't get into it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The Conjoined: A Novel by Jen Sookfong Lee is ostensibly about 2 bodies found in the freezers of a foster mother, but it's more about frustrated people and family dynamics with a lot of social justice messaging. My review

Just got done rereading Wicked Game by Lisa Jackson & Nancy Bush I read this for years ago but i dont remember it that much and I want to get this whole series read this year so I decide to reread it and I Love It so much and I know i would love her sequel to it too
I finished Fatal
by John Lescroart.Kate Jameson - a happily married woman - has sex with a man she meets at a dinner party. This has serious consequences.
Six months later the man is killed and Kate's detective friend, Beth Tully, gets the case.
This new standalone isn't as good as Lescroart's 'Dismas Hardy' series....but it's okay.
3 stars.

Slowly getting back into my groove here after having a case of the flu that knocked me on my can for five days. I'm 35 pages into my first mct group challenge novel for 2017, Caleb Williams, by William Godwin. This book was written in 1794, and appears whenever anyone discusses the history of crime fiction.
