ah! The HARDCOVER will be published on June 30th, the earlier (Feb 7th and 27th) publications were for PB and audio!

sorry I confused everybody, but inly just now saw that Fantastic Fiction had other info! When I clicked on the first link it went to Nancy's review, but the GR page for the book was of the hardcover, and that page showed "avail June 30th". geesh. and then I checked FF and saw that the future date was only for HC.

Unusual, isn't it, that the Hardcover should be the last of the translated version, isn't it? Seems strange to me, but I plead ignorance -grin- since I rarely read translated books, and almost never look at *current popular* or new books either!

Is this the way it's done now? a pb first and then *if* the book sells well, THEN a hardcover?

Actually, Abbey, the hardcover edition was published June 30th, 2016, not 2017. It looks like Amazon UK has it in hardcover for regular sale, but in the US, it's 3rd party sellers only, so it may have something to do with publication rights or whatever. I don't know. By the way, If you don't tell Fantastic Fiction that you're in the US, it will give you Amazon UK availability instead of US availability.

Also, the paperback edition in the UK is from Weidenfeld & Nicolson, and I do believe Hachette published it here in the US. W&N is part of Orion, and Orion is part of Hachette. The whole publishing thing is just odd any more.

but my library doesn't yet have it; I've requested purchase though. Nancy's review was magnificent, and I'd still love to read the book! whatever, whenever...

Amateur sleuth and blacksmith, Meg Langslow, finds a corpse during an 'extreme croquet' tournament in this fun cozy mystery. As usual with this series, the characters are a hoot. 3 stars.

In this cozy mystery, former actress Dayna Anderson - wanting to stop the foreclosure on her parents' house - becomes an amateur sleuth to snag a $15,000 reward for info on a hit-and-run murder. Very funny book. 4 stars

I finished Ginny Moon by Benjamin Ludwig, which seems to be one of the 'hot' books of the moment.

Ginny Moon is a 14-year-old autistic girl who was mistreated by her drug-addict birth mother, Gloria. Ginny now lives with an adoptive family, but keeps trying to get back to Gloria, to get the baby doll she left behind. The story seems to provide real insight into how an autistic person thinks. Very good book. 3.5 stars

Really enjoying The Covenant, sequel to The Sleeping and the Dead. Read the first when it came out a couple of years ago, keeping an eye out for the next one since. First is a bit grittier, as Jackie was an active heroin user then, recovery in this one. Read them in order.

In this 17th book in the series, married couple/Scotland Yard detectives - Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James - investigate separate cases. Gemma looks into the murder of a nanny and Duncan tries to uncover police corruption. Good mystery. 3 stars.

Just finished the enjoyable HF mystery read The Last Kashmiri Rose by Barbara Cleverly. Set in 1922 India, it appears that someone is targeting wives of a unit British cavalry unit. Inspector Joe Sandilands is sent to investigate suspicious death(s).

Just finished The Ashes of Berlin by Luke McCallin, and it has scuttled to the top of my 'best books of 2017' list. And that list rarely gets beyond five titles!

It's a WW2 detective story... sort of. Same territory as Philip Kerr, Alan Furst and Ben Pastor. But remarkably the author has found something different to say and invented some wonderful characters to deliver his message. Monstrously brilliant depiction of a broken Berlin, as well.

I finished The Fact of a Body: A Murder and a Memoir by Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich

This book, being touted as the 'must read' of the summer tells the true crime story of child molester/murderer, Ricky Langley; it also relates a tale about abuse in the author's family. To me, the two stories don't mesh that well, but it's a pretty good book. 3 stars
