Shortly after graduating from USC with a degree in journalism, Alretha soon realized her interest in her major was not heartfelt. Instead of writing news stories, she wanted to write plays and books. Several years later, her church gave her an outlet to fulfill her writing desires through their Liturgical Fine Arts Department wherein Alretha penned twelve theatre pieces—the community response was overwhelming. This led to plays outside of the church, including Alretha’s One Woman, Two Lives, starring Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show), directed by four-time NAACP Image Award Best Director recipient, Denise Dowse. The production garnered rave reviews from critics and audiences.

In between plays, Alretha self-published her first novel, Daugh

Girl, Keep Dreaming

In 2016, if you had told me that in 2021 I would be on national television (BET) singing with superstar singer and actress, Tamala Mann (r) and the uber talented actress, Jen Harper (l), I would have laughed you out of the room. In 2016, I was an executive assistant at a financial firm in Century City. I would get up at dawn and drive more than thirty-five miles to my day job. Alretha’s Recent Updates

Alretha Thomas is on page 14 of Circa 1740: I started Circa 1740 and am hooked. The opening is Fire! I was tensing up & gritting my teeth. Burnett's a pro at describing action scenes. I remember many of them from his Sapien series. I don't want to include spoilers, but the book will grab you from the start. There are some interesting characters introduced in C1: D'Quandray a former basketball star, Maliq, Bradley, & Elijah. I'm already connecting to them.

I had the pleasure of reading T.O. Burnett’s first two books in the Sapien series—Dawn of Oblivion and Days of Deception. I’m not particularly a sci-fi fan, but Burnett’s Sapien series has won me over. He’s an amazing wordsmith who creates phrases th ...more
Alretha Thomas is on page 109 of Sapien: Wow. I was scared for the children at he orphanage. So glad my fears weren't realized. Mulati is something else. I was hoping he would find a way out. But then...yikes. T.O. Burnett's writing is so descriptive, you feel like you're in the scene. I look forward to more of this wild ride.

“I’ve never seen her with the Sunday night blues—the bleakness that hits you when you know the weekend’s coming to an end and you have to report to work the next day.”

“I sit bolt upright in bed, my heart pounding, and my mind racing with thoughts about my twin. I pull my knees to my chest, wrap my arms around them, and rock back and forth. The movement calms me. When I turn toward my nightstand, my gaze locks onto the clock. It can’t be one-thirty. The”
