I need to read this for AMMP bingo and it happens to work for this shelf too (yay!) so...For the Favorite Series shelf, I will be reading
- shelved by 1 person as favorite series, 294 pages
Shelf #2: Guilty Pleasures

Book: Stars of Fortune by Nora Roberts
Date Completed: Feb 09
Rating: 2 stars
REVIEW:
I don't know if it was just me, or if was this book, but I didn't like it as much as I like some of her other paranormal trilogies. I love her Key Trilogy, Stars of Mithra Trilogy etc. Or may be my Nora Roberts phase is over. I found this book boring and tedious. It was a challenge to even finish it fully.
Six entirely different people are drawn together to the island of Corfu to search for the three stars created by three moon goddesses as a gift for their new queen, but was coveted by Nerezza their evil sister and as a result had fallen from the moon. It is up to these six strangers to search for and find the three stars, return them safely to the Island of Glass, battle Nerezza's evil powers and plots along the way, learn to trust each other, work in unity, use each one's powers to complete this quest, and whatnot.
There were quite a few things hat made me not like this book:
1. I did not connect with any of the 6 main characters. they felt like cardboard cutouts more than actual, likable characters.
2. Sahsa gets upset frequently that there was no unity and trust among themselves. Well, how can she expect unity when they've only known themselves for a few days. I know they are searching for the stars together, but why should everyone reveal all their secrets to people who they've only met recently? It didn't make sense at all. This irritated me a lot.
3. The writing felt kinda boring. She cooked, they ate, she painted, they trained, they searched for the star, she called up contacts to help with things, he did magic witchy things to help the fight, he cooked up magic witchy thing using such and such ingredients which they took from the herb garden. etc etc etc..... This could have been made exciting. But the writing felt too cardboard-ish that it turned into a monologue of day to day activities in the most boring manner.
4. The main characters. As a teenager, I used to love these too-good-to-be-true male and female main characters. I used to love how they had eyes only for each other, how they just knew, how they would sacrifice for each other, and how they would love each other automatically. Now that I'm grown, those very things irritate me. No person is that perfect and no love is that straightfoward. The saccharine sweet characters and their convenient easy love only irked me a lot.
5. 'The power of love' trope. I didn't like this in Harry Potter and other books I've read with such tropes and I don't like it here. Whenever main character win a battle or war suddenly due to 'the power of true love', which gives them sudden strength and makes them win, I only end up laughing my ass off. Call me a skeptic if you will, but you can't be losing a war/battle majorly one minute and win the next minute due to the power of love. Get realistic people!
Well, I didn't really like this book. I doubt I will read the next two books in this trilogy.

Hope things are okay with you, Kathleen. I was wondering because you haven't checked in since shelf call, and you usually do!
Hope you enjoy Throne of Glass, Laura!! I've heard AMAZING things about the series and have been meaning to pick it up for ages.
:( That's too bad, Preethi. At least that's one book knocked off your TBR.Hope you enjoy your new free space book and favorite series one!! I haven't read any MM so I'm unfamiliar with both.
Guilty Pleasures:
book: Then Came You by Lisa Kleypas
Finished: 09.02.17
Rating: ****
Review: It was fun and easy read. I like the story and the main characters (I love strong female characters) . I liked something was always happening and there wasn't any boring moments. The story wasn't only happy, there was sad parts as well and how both the main characters grew emotionally. Lisa Kleypas is one of my favorite romance writes. The stories are interesting and I love a happy ending. I knew already how it would end when I read it, but it was nice to find out their story.
Kait wrote: "Hope you enjoy Throne of Glass, Laura!! I feel she should be older for me to take the story seriously. I hope I get over the age thing....

by Ryan GraudinShelf: Favorite series -shelved by 4 people
Rating: 4.5 but okay 5
Date Read: 02/10/17
Thoughts:
It was heart pounding and I enjoyed every minute of it. My heart went out to Yael most as she is caught between wanting a different life and the trial of being the person that a revolutions needs her to be. With the many characters she can shift to, she doesn't have an identity of her and that is the part that wrenches my heart. How she's trying to know herself, how she wants to discover herself but is restrained from fully doing so because a revolution relies on her pretending to be someone else.
I thought the whole premise is unique, giving us an alternative yet terrifying continuation to Hitler's story. I am looking forward to reading the next book.

Your fast :D I'm still in the beginning of my book
Laura wrote: "The story seems promising, but I feel the main character is bit too young. I feel she should be older for me to take the story seriously. I hope I get over the age thing.... "Oh no!! That's something I struggle with in YA. My sister is significantly younger than me so whenever I read YA, I tend to compare character ages to her even if they live in a hugely different world like dystopian.

Well, I needed to know how it ended badly so I read every chance I got!
Book - Peach Pies and Alibis by Ellery Adams
Shelf - Favorite Series
How it Fits - shelved by 1 person as favorite series
Pages - 294 pages
Date Read - February 11
Rating - 4 stars
Review - I think Ellery Adams might just be my favorite cozy author! I love another series by her and was so disappointed that I didn't love the first in this series. But I really, really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next. The mystery was a lot of fun and not too predictable. The magic system is finally explained and it turns out to be a lot more interesting than Ella Mae baking her feeling into a pie. The only thing that held this book back for me was her stupidity when it comes to Sloan, her slimey disgusting 'twin red-head cheating with' husband. It irritated me so much that Ella Mae claims that she's loved Hugh since she was a girl but then has to take time to sort out whether she still loves Sloan. Grrr!! Cheating is my hot button though. Sloan should have been dead to her and a non-issue.

Book: Midnight by Megan Derr
Date Completed: Feb 12
Rating: 3 stars
REVIEW:
I didn't like this book quite as much as I did the previous two. For me, the magical feeling of the previous two books was somehow missing here.
As is usual for this series, there are a whole bunch of paranormal creatures here- dragons, draugr, a half werewolf, ghosts, vampires, sorcerers, witches, necromancers an so on. The knight and dragon bonding sounds intriguing. I can't wait to read more about these.
I really don't know why it didn't work for me as much as the other books did. May be I didn't like Devlin, one MC and the Eleventh duke of Winterborne as much. Or may be the fact that Midnight, the other MC, was a draugr. A reanimated draugr sharing life and soul with Devlin. To my mind, he still felt like a reanimated zombie, and ick on the image it presents!
Also can I just say, Midnight calling Devlin Heartbeat just feels too corny to me!
However, this is Megan Derr, and I'm hoping Dance Only for Me becomes better than this book.

Shelf #4: Favorite Series

Book: Somebody Killed His Editor: Holmes & Moriarity 1 by Josh Lanyon
Date Completed: Feb 16
Rating: 5 stars
REVIEW:
I picked up this book mainly because of it's title. I have a thing for books with interesting or quirky titles, so this one definitely captured my attention. Good thing too, because I loved it!
Josh Lanyon's writing is so delectable. To someone like me, for whom the writing style and narrative matter as much as the story, Josh Lanyon's books are a must read. There was beautiful, witty and oh-so-clever writing, nail-biting suspense, edge-of-the-seat action and laugh-out-loud humor all combined in a masterful way that made my inner fan-girl go all squeeing.
Christopher Holmes's sense of humor really got to me! It was exactly the kind of humor that I really enjoy! I'm pretty sure I was grinning like a maniac while reading this story.
This is exactly the kind of story I love to read! And did I mention I loved this book? I really loved it!

And I shall read
for the Vampire shelf. Lol I had no plans on starting a new PNR series but this book works perfectly for all my current challenges.
Hope you enjoy it, Kathleen! I enjoy the story and romance but really struggle with the names and how ridiculous (IMO) she makes the brotherhood look. There's only so much leather, tattoos and 2Pac I can take.

It was kind of hard to take this book seriously with all them big-hot-guys-in-leather.

And is it just me but I feel like the book was a fulfillment of someone's checklist with the hot powerful guy clique and gorgeous girls. Sprinkle with some action and a dash of mystery and crime and voila! I'm not saying that it's a bad book or anything. I just felt like it was a wish fulfillment, this book. But hey, we do read for pleasure and some days you just feel like reading something for pure entertainment :)

Review:
This was wonderful read! The story was interesting and kept me on the edge till the end. There was so much happening from becoming king's champion and evil lurking in the dark corners of the castle.
I didn't give 5 starts just because the age of the characters bothered me a little in the beginning, as the story went on it didn't bother me as much. And I want to read the next book already :D
I'm reading
for Vampires shelf. I had a really hard time choosing a book for this shelf! I tried reading no less than 6 books but I finally settling on this one!
