Natalie | 549 comments They actually did make a movie of the second book and it was much closer to the actual book (other than aging up the characters). It didn't do well financially so the movie series looks dead. For me, the second was my least favorite, soley because I'm not a big fan of the Odyssey.

I don't like the Kane/Egyptian series as much. His portrayal of Anubis in particular does not work for me, but I have one book to go and I do want to finish.

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Really? I need to see it. My kids would be so excited, or maybe I have just blanked out on this.

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I am trying Local Habitation for my mythology book. I have owned the audio for maybe 5-6 years and have been looking for a reason to go on in this series. This is what Bingo is good for!!

message 254: by Sam (new)

Sam | 1052 comments Looks like we are all having a rough week for reading this time. None of us have finished our weekly shelf. I'll have mine done before week 8 call, but not before tomorrow's call.

message 255: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 549 comments It's the end of the month so I assume everyone is busy with other challenges, or at least that's my excuse. I'm going to read Lirael. I'll likely get to it this week, but not today.

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Yup! Sorry I had it in an earlier post, but then when posting from the app I couldn't link to the book.

message 258: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments For me the rough time was finding a book? I was surprised to not find books I wanted.

Sam | 1052 comments I think I'm going to read Ready Player One- Ernest Cline. I've heard really good things about this book. It's on page 1 of the shelf.

I have read the first two, although I admit I'm a bit fuzzy on the second so I'll try find a quick summary before I start. I really like them and I want to see how it ends. I was looking at a few other books, but they would be the first in a series and I figured I should finish one instead.

I've heard good things about the RPO audio. I only read it, but I've listened to other books read by Wil Wheaton. I enjoyed it, but I had some issues which I think I went into when I reviewed it. From the reviews I've seen for Armada it sounds like the parts that bugged me would be worse, so I think I'll pass.

I am interested in seeing the RPO movie, just to see how they adapt it with all the different rights they would have to get. And I really want to know how they do Aech. The character hasn't been cast yet.

Katie I'll read Archangel's Storm for Week 7.

Katie Week 6: Mythology
Pleasure of a Dark Prince
3/2/17
4 stars

I'm really enjoying this series. The heroes are so awesome and the heroines are strong, but not stupid which is always nice. I do wish that the characters weren't so set on there being a "big misunderstanding" one of my least favorite plot devices ever...and also that the characters weren't so determined to turn a blind eye to others character.

message 269: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 549 comments Week 6: Mythology
Book: Lirael
Date Read: 3/2
Rating: 4/5

Review:
Lirael returns to the Old Kingdom years after Sabriel concluded. It was a bit slow to start, but I did enjoy it. I will need to pick up the next book soon, as this one continues over to it while Sabriel can stand alone.

Lirael was a fun protagonist and I look forward to reading more about her and the Disreputable Dog :)

Katie Week 7: Futuristic
Archangel's Storm
3/7/17
3 stars

For me this was a good, but not great addition to this series. I had high hopes since I had previously enjoyed Archangel's Blade which was the first book that had different MCs than Raphael and Elena. Sadly, I don't think that Jason got the book he should have. Mahiya could have been an amazing heroine, but she was overshadowed by Neha and (view spoiler).

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I am having a horrible allergic reaction to something -- it means I am up all night itching. Today one of my kids noted she hadn't seen me for 3 days. :( I realized its b/c I am up all night itching, I ended up sleeping in, they go to school, I go to work, then I come home and collapse. Hoping for an answer soon!

message 275: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 549 comments I hope they figure out what it is and you have a swift recovery!

My excuse for getting behind is the new Zelda game. I'm having way too much fun playing it. I should finish MaddAddam today though, I'm listening to the audiobook as I work.

Due to short lists we've included both. Please remember to check that your book has at least 200 pages, as there are quite a few short ones on these lists.

Natalie | 549 comments Week 7: Futuristic
Book: MaddAddam
Date Read: 3/9
Rating: 3/5

Review:
I'm glad I finally finished the series. I think the first one was my favorite of the three. I enjoyed parts of the second, and the third did drag for a while in the middle. The ending did pick up and it almost got 3.5 stars from me. I still have some questions, but overall this book did tie up and bring together most of the storylines.

I believe this was put into production for tv and has been on hold. If the adaptation of handmaid's tale does well, I can see this series following shortly. I would watch.

message 288: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I have been waiting to see what you think! I agree, the first is the best.

message 289: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 549 comments I think the series is worth finishing, but this did really drag at times, hence why it took me so long to read.

A Local Habitation (October Daye, #2) by Seanan McGuire

I have owned this book for years and felt guilty about not reading it and not getting back to the series. Bingo brought me back to this series. I am so thankful!

I love this world, very interesting - trying to see if #3 fits on to another shelf.

message 291: by Katie (new)

Katie I'm glad you read that one, Regina. I've been sitting on it as well and now I think I might try to fit it in where I can. :)

message 292: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Katie - do it! I think I struggled with #1? I am wishing #3 was shelved as snarky.

message 293: by Regina (new)

An Artificial Night (October Daye, #3) by Seanan McGuire

message 294: by Katie (new)

Katie Lol! Yeah, #1 suffered a bit from that first book in a series syndrome, so I put the series on the back burner. I'm going to give #2 a shot soon, though! :)

message 295: by Natalie (new)

Book: Touch of Frost- Jennifer Estep
Shelf: Mythology
How it fits: on page 1 of the shelf
Date read: 3/12/17
Rating: 4 stars

Gwen has the power of psychometry- she can see emotions and background of objects and people when she touches them. When her mom is killed in a car accident, she is transferred to Mythos Academy, a school composed of the descendants of Valkyries, Amazons, Spartans and gods. She doesn't understand why she is there. But when one of the students is killed during an apparent robbery, she decides to try to find out why. I enjoyed her journey in accepting why she belongs at Mythos Academy, her developing friendships and even the potential romance. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Katie Week 8: Snarky Heroine/Snarky
Accidentally on Purpose
3/13/17

I always enjoy Jill Shalvis books. Always. This was no exception and, as usual, I found myself really liking the MCs and all the supporting characters. This one had a bit too much I want him/her, but I'm going to torture myself instead of actually doing something about it. All the same, the book was good. :)
