The annual Goodreads Choice Award gives readers around the world a chance to recognize their favorite books of the year. With over 20 categories of books and more than three million votes, it's clear that this award is in a league of its own. Here at NBRC, we like to utilize this award by making a reading challenge out of it- after all, it's what we do best.

Duration
Start: 1/1/2017
End: 12/31/2017

Levels
There are a couple different ways to play:

A Little Bit of Everything: Read 1 Book from each category
✩ Easy: 1 book from 5 different categories
✩ Moderate: 1 book from 10 different categories
✩ Hard: 1 book from all 20 categories

Category Demolisher: Read all books from same category
✩ Easy: 1/2 a category (10 books from any 1 category)
✩ Moderate: 1 category (20 books)
✩ Hard: 2 categories (40 books)
(In case you've already read some of the books, you can count them also, or read nominee/winner for same category from previous years.)

Read any combination of books that appeal to you:
✩ Easy- 10 Books
✩ Moderate- 20 books
✩ Hard- 40 books

Come What May: See how many you can finish!

Depends on what level are you doing. Only Demolisher can count books read last year (or read previous years' GRA book as exchange)
All other levels can count only books read in 2017.

Ok, thanks! I was going to change my level if they counted, but looks like 20 will be a good challenge for me. :)

Yeah! Ia would also like to know about this. There are so many books which are later into the series.

I've passed your question on to those more in the know than me. I'll let you know what I find out. :)

Suzanne wrote: "Another question - if one of the categories is like #8 in the series or #30 in the series - can we read an earlier book from the series, or do we need to read the nominated book?"

No. Because it was that particular series book that won the award for 2016; and you are able to choose a different book from the category to read as it is opened up to nominees and not just winners.

Sorry.

The rules don't differentiate between the categories, so I would say yes.
