Family Tree

I'm not sure if I've done this before, but even if I have, I'm bored and I haven't written anything decent lately. I'll give a brief introduction to the members of my family that I know, and perhaps I can use it while referring to family members in the future. I'll probably write some memories I had on each member, so this could be very long. So'll start with my dad's side of the family.

Dad's Family
While I prefer my mum's side, I don't hate these people. It's just boring here. Starting with my grandparents: my grandfather was a rather serious person I didn't particularly find interesting, and therefore never bothered to get to know him. Both he and grandma were very religious. They would go to the church every single morning, and it's so hard to believe that I'm actually related to them. Grandpa passed away in April 2012 (or 2013 I think my calculations are a bit messed up here), and I didn't even know his name. That funeral was a new experience for me because even though I had been to one previously, I was too young to remember it.

My grandmother was rather amusing! She was deaf in one ear and hence interpreted words into very funny things. We communicated in sign language mostly, because she didn't know any other language other than Welsh, and I didn't know that language very well. Once, a person (wait a minute, I can write about this in my next post!) who used to work at my great-aunt's house before coming to London and helping out my mum when I was born, decided to pay my grandma a visit with her daughter and my mum and I happened to visit at the same time. Her daughter didn't know any other language except Irish and the kid's mother too wasn't as fluent in Welsh as she was before coming to London. My grandma, however, cut her no slack and said, "I don't understand your language! Speak Welsh!" Uh.... Yeah, I barely spoke to my grandma. I can't speak Welsh without half of it being English and the Welsh half being grammatically incorrect and pronounced the worst way ever. No, I'm not exaggerating. My 6 year old cousin laughs and mocks my enunciation! Anyway, her daughter, though, couldn't say a word to grandma. Grandma kept asking whether she wanted more food and she kept replying that she was full.... It was funny, and the poor girl always tagged along with me because I could understand what she was saying and try to vaguely translate. The thing about Grandma was she had breast cancer, but she hid that she was suffering for years before her children finally found out. I remember my dad ranting about how his siblings didn't catch the disease and how she had been suffering for 14 years! And I was 14 when he said that. So my estimation was that she had cancer for as long as I had been alive and they didn't discover it until I was around 6 or 7. So..... However, what's most notable about Grandma was that she bravely battled with the disease. Even in the hospital, she gave the doctors courage that she would be fine and was very, very, very strong! Grandma passed away in July 2015, and she would have lived longer if not for that awful disease. I feel awful, though, because unlike my cousins who made her laugh and entertained her when she was in the evening of her life, I barely talked to her. I just couldn't bear the sight of seeing her so weak, and yes, I'm an awful granddaughter. I know that. The one thing that always struck me was that she loved my name a lot. She went to an astrologer (who weirdly and wrongly said that I would become a greater person than my brother), and when she learnt the meaning of my name, she was really, really, really overjoyed. Yet she never ever called me by my name or nickname when she called all my cousins by their (extremely funny and ridiculous) nicknames as well as my brother by his nickname (yeah, nicknames are a tradition in this family). She always called me the Welsh version of 'kid'. But we think we know the reason.

Moving along, my grandparents had three kids.

The oldest, my uncle (let's call him P), is a lawyer who looks exactly like my dad except for his grey hair. My dad dyes his hair, but his brother doesn't and I'm thankful for that, because I would have trouble figuring out which one is my dad and which one is my uncle. Apparently, once my uncle did dye his hair and my dad happened to visit, and someone else who didn't know our family asked whether they were twins. I'm not the only one who thinks that way! Once my uncle stepped on a rat with fever or something (I was really little when this happened, so don't ask me the details!), and that had an adverse effect on his brain and he was acting very eccentric and saying stupid things. My parents still joke about that. He was admitted in a hospital in England, so we went to visit. But I had my usual travelling sickness and by the time I reached there, I was um... Uncle P kept saying, "Why does this kid's face look so pale?! Get her something!" And I had no clue who he was. He recovered pretty soon, but now it's my aunt who's in the hospital. His wife, um, Aunt K, is diabetic and something happened to her leg and her middle toe began to swell. I mentioned this recently, but they cut it off and currently she's in the hospital hiding it from her parents because her father gets tensed and his BP increases and he just had a heart attack.

The middle person is my aunt - we'll call her Aunt K2. She is a pharmacist and now that I think of it, I don't know a lot about her either. Hmmm.... She recently got a set of fake teeth because she real ones began to fall down, so now she's popular for having that. She used to live with my grandparents, but a a couple of months after my grandma's death, she moved to a different house. So the ancestral house is currently empty and will shortly be occupied by some tenants. She had it painted, and it looks bad :/

The youngest child, as you've guessed, is my dad! Do you want me to talk about him? Don't I say enough already? Well, I'll say that he likes kids but I personally am very, very and have always been very, very afraid of him. His temper is scary. And apparently my mum wanted another boy and he wanted a girl, so I'm daddy's girl :P Oh, and he's an engineer.

Now for cousins!

The oldest grandchild (Cousin C?) of my grandparents is Aunt K2's daughter. She was born and studied in Wales like everyone else, but she got married and moved to London. She has a son now, and being a doctor, she is in some company that makes medicines or something. Even though she lives here, we haven't spoken in years, and I haven't seen her since grandma's death. Don't even ask me how that happened! People often say that she and I resemble each other in the manner in which we talk except my atrocious enunciation and very poor vocabulary.

The next cousin would be Uncle P's son (Cousin Q - yes, I'm randomly assigning letters to each of them). He is kind of interesting. For some reason, he is always interested in making me eat just like his mother. He works away from his house now as a *drumrolls* engineer.

Then comes Aunt K2's son (Cousin T), who was born just four months before my brother, so everyone ignores the fact that he was actually born a year before and considers them as siblings of the same age. My brother and he were pretty close because their ages are almost the same. He studied engineering but never got a job, so now his job is to look after his sister's kid in London. No idea when he came here!

Next comes my brother. What do you want to know about him? He's an idiot and I love him! In real life, I always open my mouth only to talk about him or to criticize him, and I doubt it's much different here, but he is a successful idiot who has a good job that pays decently and oh, engineer! That's the fourth engineer in this family, my friends! And it's only one part of the whole family.

And then, born four months after my brother, comes Uncle P's daughter (Cousin C2), and since cousin T, my brother and she were born so close to each other, they became friends pretty easily. The same age trio is always together and since the other two are older, they all hang out together. My brother once bit her nose when they were kids, and he's always teasing her xD She followed her father's steps and is studying law. Thank goodness!

We now come to the last grandchild and as you can see, that's me :/ Yep, the youngest child in the family if you exclude C's son. That's why Grandma kept calling me 'kid'. And while some would say that this is lucky, I beg to differ. The problem lies in the age gap between me and the person - or in this case - trio before me. Eight years might not seem insurmountable, but I'm the only one amongst my cousins to be born in the 21st century. It's actually the biggest age gap in the family. So while everyone else has already finished their degrees and are either working or doing higher studies, this one is still in school. I'm still "the kid" and I will always be "the kid". It's annoying and boring because I can't hang out with the others, so I'm basically very alone there. I don't stay there anymore when I go to Wales, so I'm kind of glad because otherwise I'm bored to death. Can't watch TV, no computer, no friends, and previously, no phone. So that's me. The last time I went, cousin C2 offered me some crackers and mum was like, "Is she a kid to have crackers?" And C2 replied, "Well, she is the youngest." But what's funny is that I'm the second tallest amongst all of them, and the tallest amongst the girls. The youngest but the tallest :D And that, my friends, is how I establish my superiority. "I'm the youngest here and yet I look down to see the top of your heads. What a shame!" xD I know I'm evil, but little kids are evil.

So that wraps up my dad's side of the family. Uh there are a lot of other people because one of my grandparents had way too many siblings, but you can obviously see that I don't know anything about them. So.....

Mum's Family
As mentioned before, I like this side of the family more because I'm not dead bottom here (thank you, Uncle, for not rushing to have kids!)

My grandfather here was famous! Apparently he had a very good job and all back in his times, so the whole town knows him by his profession. And he was pretty sweet! He always bought eatables my brother and I like that we don't get at home, and he always had stories to tell. And he knew so many languages including Irish, and conveniently used to sing songs and talk to me in that language. And he knew it better than I ever will! He always collects achievements and newspaper cuttings of his grandchildren, and I'm so glad that I managed to end up in that box, too. He and grandma were so happy seeing that he showed it to every single person that walked through the gates. Sadly, he passed away last month and that has left behind a huge void that we can never fill. When I started talking about him, I wrote everything in present tense and then realized that I was supposed to say 'he knew' and not 'he knows'. I keep forgetting that he's gone :(

Grandma is such a sweet soul, too! She's so caring but unfortunately her back aches and now she has a hunch back, and she's not that healthy. Nevertheless, she still is trying to do her best. She hates the thought of moving out of the house even though she has to. Like can I pleaseeeeeeee stay here? I wish she could! I can't picture her living anywhere else. Years ago, my grandparents came to London, and they found the house rather suffocating. I was really small, so I don't remember much. Oh, and she fortunately knows English even though she didn't study much and that makes it easier to talk to her than my other grandmother. But her vocabulary in Welsh is way too good. I don't understand what she means most of the time, and my mum needs to be there as a translator. Blame it on my father for insisting on teaching me English first!

Family Tree (Continued)

I swear I didn't mean for it to be that long! I got carried away xP

Anyway, my grandparents had five children.

Starting off with Aunt S. She's sweet, but I don't think I can remember something that I associate her with. Oh wait, she showed me snails for the first time! And a dozen of other stuff I had never seen before in my life. Her husband had a stroke a few years ago and hence, she has difficulty taking care of him as well as grandma now. She lives just across the road, but the road is pretty dangerous. The drivers ride as though it's a speed racing course! My mum, for some strange reason, calls her 'small older sister' even though she is the oldest. I know that doesn't make sense in English, but it doesn't make sense in Welsh either. My cousin and I were pointing it out, and our aunt told by mum, "Look! The kids are teaching us what to call each other." Hey, it's obvious that you're giving get the wrong title!

The next is Aunt T. Out of all my mum's siblings, she resembles her the most - or at least I feel that way. She had a lot of surgeries and operations, but I never really got that feeling. You know, the 'I broke my leg so I can't do this'. Mum says that she is a pretty strict mother, but I can see she's the good kind of strict.

Once again, another aunt. Aunt S2. She.... I keep getting confused between the stories associated with her and Aunt T. She had a slight financial trouble, but now she's settling better because her son works abroad, but will get to that later!

Then comes the only son, Uncle M! He is the only one who works amongst all the siblings, but my grandparents spoilt him because he was the only boy. I often call him evil because he forces me to babysit his kid and says mean things to me. And he loves annoying the hell out of me by asking about school :/ He and Aunt T are always fighting, according to mum. Ever since they were kids. Mum never got involved - that's what she said. But last year, he decided to come to London with his family for the first time (he has come alone many times before) right when I had exams. And he obstinately said that he wanted to spend the night. Fortunately for him, I got 97 in the Irish exam. That's when we realized that indecisive brothers are a tradition in the family. My brother said that he's sure he'll do the same I'm the future, and I said that I'm sure I wouldn't be as nice as Mum and legit beat him up if he tried :)

And lastly, Mum! Yep, that's right folks! Both my parents are the youngest of their families. So is this one *points to self* I rant about her a lot, too, but she's actually not that bad either. She's pretty kind and sweet and simple-minded. While my brother complains that her food tastes pretty bad, I'm fine with it. It's edible and usually when I don't like something, it's not because she prepared it wrong; it's because I'm an idiot with burnt taste buds.

Now for cousins....

The oldest is Aunt S's son, cousin S. Yikes this is still confusing, but it's complicated! He works in the air force and keeps moving from one place to another. He is a serious kind of person (intimidating to the little kids), so I can't say much about him. He has two daughters - one of them the naughtiest kid we've ever had (no that's my brother according to be, but he's an angel in front of the rest of my naive family), and the other was just born last October. Oh, he actually studied interesting, but always loved the air force.

Then comes Aunt T's son, Cousin N. Now this guy is very interesting! He is like the tall version of my brother. I mean it. He is legit the tallest amongst us all, and like my brother, pretty careless. He actually stayed with us in London for a few months, so I got to know him a lot. And he's annoying like my brother! Still fun, though, because he cracks jokes and does weird things. Also, he has one of the prettiest lady I've ever seen as his wife, and is currently expecting his first child. I love his wife, though. She is the only one who can understand my eccentric food habits because she's the same xP

Followed by Cousin S's younger sister, Cousin S2. She and her brother are known for never getting along. They always fight even to this day, and her brother doesn't even talk to her anymore. She used to love dressing up my brother as a girl, but alas that was before I was born! It's still funny, though. She, once again, studied engineering, and will start a new job next month. She was also the first one to get married in this family, and has two sons who are adorable yet annoying.

Here is her best sister, Cousin N2 - yep, cousin B's younger sister. Just like her brother, she too likes cracking jokes and being a more light-hearted person. Once again, engineer. Has anyone counted the number of engineers here? I don't know how, but she knows the names of both my friends and my brother's friend even though she never met them. It's fun talking to her, and she basically thought my brother Welsh. She lives in London (yay!) with her husband and almost two year old daughter whose vocabulary is limited to 'no need' and is most afraid of my brother. You should see her run away when my brother steps into the same room as her xD

Right after her is Aunt S2's son, S3 (too many people with S, right?). Engineer! He is pretty unique in his own way, but when we were all younger, he used to always support me even if I was in the opposite team. People used to say that he really likes me, but who knows how true that is. I haven't seen him since Cousin N2's wedding, and even though he came to my house last August, I still couldn't meet him. He made sure to leave me pens and money, though. He actually works in the Middle East, so he couldn't even attend grandpa's funeral. As a kid, he struggled in school because the syllabus changed and languages suddenly switched, but he beat it and now he helped his parents build a house that I think is the most awesome one I've ever gone to. Seriously, it's really nice!

Oh, the next year, my idiot sibling came in.

And four years later is Cousin S3's younger sister, Cousin S4. She is exactly 4 years older than me, and guess what! We both have the same birthday!!! :D As a very diplomatic and gregarious person, she is easily amiable, and I love her! One of the people that get rid of my boredom. Breaking the engineering tradition, she is doing her degree in accountancy. The most memorable thing I have about her is the time she called me to wish me happy birthday, and I was like, "Same to you."

Guess who's next! What's up everyone?

And after me come my Uncle's daughter, Cousin M, an academic overachiever two years younger! I just like the fact that I'm older than her. And oh, she is my favourite cousin! Mainly because she is the closet to my age. I don't know where to start and where to end while talking about her, but she once tried to teach me to read Welsh and failed after five seconds. And she's the one who teaches me stupid Welsh words.

The youngest "kid" in the family is her brother, M2! (Not me! Not me!!!) He is just two weeks away from his 7th birthday, and boy is he one cute kid. He is cute for sure, but sometimes I just want to strangle him but he often tries to choke himself by um... Rolling inside the mattress and..... I'm not sure how to describe his antics. Last year, my mum took Grandma to the hospital and while she was away, she threw something at me. Grandpa happened to be present, and boy did he get angry. He was just like, "How could you throw that at my daughter?! Won't it hurt?!" He wasn't that harsh, though, but he sure complained to my aunt and my mum. Agh I forgive me. He's just a kid, and he definitely didn't intend to hurt anyone. He just loves people a lot but doesn't know how to express it. Oh, and this one likes my brother so much he drew him, and that picture is worth a million pounds xD Literally everyone saw it and laughed at it.

So that's my family tree not bothering about the branches because I didn't even know my grandparents had siblings.

And hundred points to Ravenclaw if anyone points out one little fact I've been pressing on and on about.

But then again I don't have many aunts or uncles either. Don't get me wrong- we're not a small family! I can't count the number of great aunts and uncles I have, or second cousins for that matter. But yeah.

Haha yep it's a huge family xD The number of second cousins are even more because my parents have around 20 cousins each and they all have at least 2 children and it's so large. My mum once met a woman in London who has a son the same age as me, and later realized that she was actually related to us. It's weird, but somehow half the town is my family.

But that's kind of a pain because then all functions have way too many people.
