Not only did they say it was okay for me to join them- they joked about preventing me from leaving because they need more members!
I'll come back later to tell you more when I get done with my monstrous load of work- unfortunately, there was no competition for the question "what's the best thing that happened to me today" because otherwise it was just stressful :/
Hope you can sleep okay!

CONGRATS

Admittedly I thought getting involved in the editing and production part would require more effort and time than that needed to walk into a specific classroom on a set date. XD
But I'm not complaining! My teacher Mr. Knox didn't even know there was a meeting going on, he just said to speak to the adviser in his room... and I happened to walk in on an actual meeting, not just him!
Hallie, you will be surprised to know that there were only four other people at the meeting if you discount the teacher. XD It's very small. That's why the teacher was pretty excited. But these four couldn't be more different. Proof that writers come in all shapes and sizes. :)
Pretty sure there are a couple more members who couldn't make it.
We discussed whether we should give detailed or general feedback on submissions. The consensus was to have general feedback and more specific grammar corrections (except for poetry). And also to ask people if they want feedback to begin with. Then we went on to methods of encouraging students to submit- in the end, we're relying on certain teachers and a few flyers.
I can't believe it! By February I'll be giving feedback on people's writing!!! :D

sorry to like spam you but if you're still awake i could really use some help a bit editing my essay that i have up on the newest page of my journal! i just need a few extra pairs of eyes to look it over for me because i feel really self conscious about it and i kinda think it sucks so any criticisms you might have (if you'd like to check it out no pressure) it would be great to hear from you!
if not, that's fine too ^-^

and i'm not finished yet, it's just whether the start of it seems like a good college application essay

Thanks! Haha! XD Yep four! So I didn't have to prove myself. Was very, very shy actually. The way I always am when meeting new people. Though I share a class period with one of the four!

I suppose I will! Well I already know two at least. But most of them are seniors! What will happen next year?!
In general, my school is very STEM oriented. It's not a specialized school, but you can't deny it. Biology is verrry popular. And then of course there are athletics.
We have some amazing teachers in both the humanities and sciences, but many more people are into science. And the arts too. I love the arts. Don't get me wrong! I'm a proud orchestra member. But in the midst of this, writers aren't that prevalent.
The other problem is that due to Common Core, English classes nowadays are evidence-based and don't encourage creativity so much... you won't get many writers from that! It could be argued that even Mr. Knox's method of almost all discussion strays greatly from the norm- templates and outlines.

Er Biology! Sounds like my school now xD Sciences have more people. Writers being a rarity sounds strange to me, though. Why wouldn't people but write? xD

I don't like Botany a lot, but I love the rest (even dissecting cockroaches xP)

Interesting! Well I can't judge unless I actually see them in person. I doubt they are that bad. WOW! 100 people?!?!?!? :O Okay no that's probably never happened in the history of this school district, never mind my school alone. It's true but more people know how to take pictures than write... Snapchat. XD
At this school, you take the newspaper or yearbook as a class, and literary magazine is a club. I think for the newspaper you need an A or B in English and a recommendation letter from your current teacher. As for yearbook, you just need to make sure you know who doesn't hate you!
I would do the newspaper next year but I want to be on par with my peers and take an AP class instead... looks better to colleges. However, they could use an editor. One person wrote "demolishment" rather than "demolition" in their story, and a word repeated many times in an important announcement about the paper was missing a letter. Oops XD
I like some parts of bio but others not so much. Depends really. We are in genetics now and I really like them!
I don't know why people don't write. Likely never crossed their minds. Most develop a dislike because they aren't taught well. I'm lucky because of the million books I read and genetic affinity for it. I paint myself as so unique but I'm actually just a conformist within a writing family. XD
I should be asking you: why are so many at your school into writing?

I'll tell you I suppose... I'm actually eager. My dream is to create a network of young writers in my community. Bring everyone together: the political enthusiasts, those like me up until now who have kept the secret of their writing, and people looking for a gap to fill a void in their creative minds.
As I've been saying to Hallie, my school doesn't have many writers. However, another high school appears to have quite a few. I would like to plan it in the summer, get some adults involved, and use a local space that supports anything related to literature pretty much.
So yeah. My dream :)

I don't know whether they applied for skipping class (or if they were like me, skipping lunch), but there was a lot of names for reporting itself. Photographers had an even bigger line, though. Lol xD
Ours is just decided with auditions xP Uh that error doesn't sound like something I'd be able to accept (OCD like problem here).
I don't know. I have no clue who write and who don't, but my school does have a reputation. So we actually have people good at all fields, and since there are so many students attending, it's not that surprising.

Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! You should do it!

I'll check it out, but it might be a while.

Besides, I just came to know that I passed in Math!! Woohoo!

I guess I can't blame myself totally when all I've done is formatted writing for school and fiction and poetry, but still. Uh I want to be a good writer!
He did put feedback on it so I do look forward to reading and internalizing it.
(Sorry for this I just needed to tell someone!)

CONGRATS

I'm sure if I stay on here for long, I'll be picking fights with majority of the people on Goodreads. But that means I'm most likely going to kill myself, so unless Mum doesn't recommend drinking the cough syrup, I'll be dead.

I swear that this time I'm not convinced. But I can't blame myself 100%. This was an in class assignment that we had a day and a night to do. I spent weeks on another one of his writing assignments and basicslly got a completion grade because the bigger grade is for an assignment I'm doing over this three day weekend! So unlike in every other class the timeframe is not proportional to the grade or how harshly we'll be graded. I like that class but uh! I suppose I should have known that even he would care more about a paper on an issue than a creative writing assignment.
Aw that story sounds so sweet :) I'm so glad you did well! I have a feeling that that student in my class was the one who already got praised. But hey I'm actually happy for them, don't get me wrong. Always nice to be told that you are the one who is definitely getting a 100! Plus, I think I fared much better on a recent hard test than most so I'm glad for anyone who gets a leg up with this.
The one thing I did do was underline the book titles and he ranted about how he nearly fainted when he saw that because almost no one did it, although I wasn't named. So that's something! XD
And I guess there's the possibility that he hadn't read mine at that point because he wasn't finished grading.

Well, I sure hope you get a good grade, though, because I think you deserve one :) There could be more than one person who did well, and there is that possibility that you mentioned at the end. Or maybe he expected something good from you and that's how it was. That was what happened to me; the teacher said everyone did bad and even the top students left her disappointed. We were all freaking out as "top students" and the next thing I hear is everyone saying that I'm so skinny because I eat English textbooks instead of real food xD
