message 103: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I am quietly reading and enjoying Jamaica Inn. I had to give up on the cassette tapes. I liked the narrator very much, but a couple of them won't play correctly. I guess the tape is stretched. I have waited so long to play them too! I don't see an audio book available on either of my Overdrive library links.

Mary is at Jem's house and he just showed her the "black pony".

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19239 comments I went to the bookshop. And then another one...

We may have come home with two whole boxes full of books...

TO the New Purchases thread I go.

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) | 1152 comments I quit reading Lady Audley's Secret last night (hopefully I'll be able to get back into the story next week) and read some short stories. Probably during lunch today I'll read a comic-book. I'll just have to put the kids to bed early tonight (after walking the 'Avond 4 Daagse' (5 km. walking each night for 4 nights) I think they can do with a bit of rest) - so I can start reading!

I can't wait!

Laura (apenandzen) | 3469 comments I reminded my husband that at noon, I have to start reading. The best response: "OK". Has this guy been trained, or what? ♥

And the countdown continues!

Cherie, luck for me, my library has Jamaica Inn and several other books by Daphne du Maurier on Overdrive. I picked that up to use for this Toppler, and I hope the narration is good. If not, I'll switch to a Kindle or DTB edition.

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments A thought while waiting to start the Toppler...why spend money on furniture when you can spend it on books and make your own?

Dammit! That was the one book I meant to look for at the book shop. It and Rebecca. Completely forgot.

Mariab | 3059 comments I have been sending friendships request to you guys (girls).
I just found out now how to do that (I have wanted to do it for a while...)

message 112: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19239 comments Yay! Thanks for the friend Mariab! I must say that goodreads isn't wonderful on the "teaching you how to use it" front. That said, it means you're constantly discovering new features!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19239 comments 2.5 hours to go! I'll be sleep cheering you all on for the first 8 or so.

Only the cool kids are drinking wine at this point in time. Even if it is stupid o'clock in the morning.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Bad news - my laptop got taken over. This time by Homeland Security for being a bad citizen and downloading unauthorized stuff. &*#$^&*(%# viruses!!! I am at the library right now, but only to let you know. I'll be at home reading, and mentally chatting. I'll try and get back here late this afternoon, but will have no access tomorrow. I don't know if I can survive over 48 hours without my computer. I might be able to borrow my neighbor's laptop some, or dig out the dinosaur, which is packed up to give my dad. Thank goodness I forgot to take it to him in May. Hopefully I can remember what plugs where - thank goodness most of the cables are color coded. Cross your fingers for me!!

OH. That´s a pity!!!
(your laptop, I mean)

message 127: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments Can you believe it? Instead of beginning my reading, I'm ghopering by other people's books´s picks, to add MORE books to my shelves (that MUST BE a kind of disorder...)

Good luck, J'mom. On the plus side, you'll undoubtedly get more reading done!

Yup, that's the way of it. There is no toppling going on, just more piling.

Just know that you're not alone. Some people spend as much time here chatting and looking at all the books mentioned as they do reading!
