"The artist" is nameless, houseless (NOT homeless), and only 17 when she sees Lola in the Mirror. Award-winning Aussie author Trent Dalton's wonderful new novel shows the precarious life of people living on the edges.

Here is my 4.6 rounded to 5 stars review of Perfect Shot
by Steve Urszenyi: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...Thriller
Overall, this tense and exciting thriller keeps the reader on an emotional rollercoaster, quickly turning pages with the hope that the world will be safe. This was an excellent start to what I hope will be a long high-octane and dynamic series.
Dark Angel aka Wildflower Girls is promoted as gripping and unputdownable, but I lost my grip, skimmed to the end, and put it down quickly. D.K. Hood has a lot of fans and some very high ratings, so I guess it's just me.
My review of Dark Angel

Thriller / Horror
The world-building was fantastic in all four parts of the story. With a combination of mystery and horror, it is suspenseful, gritty, heartbreaking, and atmospheric with plenty of chills.
I enjoyed this dark short story from Amazon Original Stories.

Mystery set in Alaska
Overall, this enjoyable mystery was engaging, suspenseful, atmospheric, and full of adventure. Darker than many cozy mysteries, the well-developed ideas with good pacing from scene to scene kept me turning the pages.
If you enjoy edgy fairy tales, The Lover by Silvia Moreno-Garcia might be one you'll enjoy. It's another Amazon Original Short Story.

Political Thriller / Espionage
This story has great pacing, a twisty and absorbing plot, and plenty of exciting scenes. My main quibble is that I didn’t quite feel like I was in Switzerland. I needed a little more world-building for that. Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed the novel. Overall, this high-octane thriller was entertaining, thought-provoking, and a powerful page-turner from start to finish.

Past Lying by Val McDermid is set in Edinburgh during the 2020 covid lockdown, perfectly capturing the strangeness of the time and the eeriness of an empty city.review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I read. God Save Benedict Arnold: The True Story of America's Most Hated ManIt is an excellent biography of a man reviled as a traitor. It brings to light his now overlooked contributions to the American Revolution.
My 4 star review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I just enjoyed The Mystery Writer by one of my favourite authors, Aussie Sulari Gentill. This one has a couple of Aussie characters in the US, caught up in murder, conspiracies and preppers. Good stuff!
My review of The Mystery WriterThere's still no archive date on NetGalley, and it's not out until March.

Police Procedural / Crime Thriller
Overall, this is a tense, gritty, and engaging novel with wit, suspense, action, and some great twists as well as some violence. The author’s writing style continues to hook me quickly, and the story builds momentum that leads to an action-filled conclusion.
I read Murder on Brittany Shores by Jean-Luc Bannalec It is a cerebral mystery--no sex or violence. MY 4 star review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...This is book 2 in the series. Book 9 Death of a Master Chef: A Brittany Mystery is available on NG.

Fans have been waiting a while to see what author Graham Brack's Captain Josef Slonský has been up to, and I was glad to seem him back in (limping) action in Prague, solving the case of The Murdered Molls. Crime and humour - great mix.
My review of The Murdered Molls
In Shades of Death: Murder at the Court of Elizabeth I, historian Angela Ranson presents Catrin, an appealing, independent young heroine whom the Queen sends to investigate death threats. Great read for historical mystery lovers.
My review of Shades of Death
Here is my 4.44 rounded to 4 stars review of The Dollmaker
by Mary Burton:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Police Procedural / Crime Thriller / Romantic Suspense
The author is a great storyteller with gripping scenes and a disturbing story intermixed with a couple trying to decide if they can reconcile and be happy together. The plot moves at a fast pace with twists and turns. The antagonist’s identity was a complete surprise to me.
Here is my 4.55 rounded to 5 stars review of Random in Death
by J.D. Robb:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Near-Future Police Procedural / Romantic Suspense
It is amazing that after fifty-eight books this author can still use prose to elicit a strong emotional response from readers. The novel has a deeply involved plot that is thought-provoking and tragic. Robb is an excellent storyteller who combines a creative plot with suspenseful scenes, lots of solid police investigation, and some action.
Baumgartner is a man widowed too young who wonders if he has a future. Acclaimed American author Paul Auster gives us Baumgartner's sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, always realistic musings. Excellent.
My review of Baumgartner

urban fantasy, paranormal mystery, paranormal romantic suspense
Overall, this novel was a fast-paced and entertaining tale with great characterization that kept me engaged throughout the story. My biggest quibble is that I wanted to know more about the Gyre. I felt the worldbuilding concerning it was insufficient.
