Sam (theliteraryhooker) | 1008 comments I'm with you, Louise! I had a way harder time getting my second half done with no duplicates. I also had a Nora Roberts book I was really hoping to fit in, but none of my plans worked with it.

I ended up going with male authors and stealing a few ideas from other members' plans, and I had to order two new books from the UK. The things I do for this challenge! :P

I think both all one gender and 10 letters is hard. So ... we have separate rewards.

Some ideas for you! :)

Paranormal - Christine Feehan
Karen Marie Moning

Erotica - Cara McKenna

Contemporary - Annie Kelly
Cat Johnson

YA/Fantasy - Julie Kagawa

Historical - Courtney Milan
Kat Martin
Elizabeth Lowell
Cathy Maxwell
Beverly Jenkins (also contemporary)
Eloisa James
Elizabeth Hoyt
Caroline Linden

It's early, but I think those work.

eta: Holy cow, I just saw that you said second half, and all of my examples are first half. :( Eeeep.

eta2: Thought of one - Nalini Singh! But it uses the Nora Roberts N. :(

eta3: My e-library gave me a bunch of ideas, though I haven't read any of these authors myself. The task must be possible, I know it! ;)

Rebecca Zanetti
Susan Wiggs
Penny Richards
Pamela Yaye
Raven Scott
Nancy Thayer
Sherryl Woods

Amanda | 1527 comments I was finding women harder than men. If I didn't have so many books listed for the main challengeI would revisit. Also, my husband is taking the family out for the 4 hour film version of Doctor Zhivago, so I am losing a lot of time in my day today (not as much as i would have if camp had been cancelled - that would have cost me the whole weekend!)

Connie G (connie_g) | 1905 comments Louise, I haven't read these romance authors but they are in the N-Z half (but use some of the letters you have already used):
Penny Watson
N.M. Silber

Rosemary | 4295 comments I consulted Listopia for mine! If you go here for example, you'll find authors with last names starting with U, plus a helpful list at the top of other last name letters:

Beth Robinson (bethrobinson) | 1174 comments Yes, I have so many that qualify for the first half that I could do it twice over with the men and once with the women getti g no duplicate letter bonuses each time. But I will likely choose to get no bonuses for the second half in order to best make use of my existing to do list.

Some more ideas for the second half are
Rebecca York
Rachael Wade
Rhonda Stapleton
Olive Schreiner
Nichole Van

Louise Bro | 477 comments Gee, you guys! Thank you so much for all the great tips. All your support is making me stubborn, so I will get a list that works!

I think reading the Nora Roberts might have been a tactical error (though it was lovely), N and R are just too common letters to "waste" on the same author. I've already read the book though, so scrapping it will be a last resort.

Can you use it for another task? Like maybe 10.9 or even 10.1?

Yes, It does fit "Next!", so that may be the way to go... Also, I hadn't noticed that not reusing letters was a bonus choice and not mandatory, so I can always give up on those points.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14239 comments Louise Bro wrote: "I hadn't noticed that not reusing letters was a bonus choice and not mandatory."

Definitely not mandatory. I'm going to get the all female for the A-M, but not 10 letters for that half, because I'm still trying to reduce my onhand/unread books.

message 62: by Louise Bro (new)

Louise Bro | 477 comments Oh my! I was just looking authors fitting my alphabetical needs and thought it would be swell if there was an author named Olivia Quinn. So I tapped in the name and lo and behold, there is such an author: Olivia Quinn.
I was elated, until I looked at the titles:
My First Time with a Werewolf
Ravaged by a Pterodactyl
Ravaged by a Raptor (There's a whole series on dinosaurs...)
I don't mean to be disrespectful of anyone's tastes in books, but I have to say that I'm not desperate enough to read these tomes. Had a good laugh about it though, didn't know there was an untapped marked on dinosaur erotica!

Yeah, there are a lot of restrictions to take into consideration.

Sam (theliteraryhooker) | 1008 comments LOL Louise, I got a good chuckle out of that list of titles...it's definitely a bit of a "niche" genre!

I got a good laugh from that! I wonder if Olivia is making a living with her writing.

message 67: by Bea (new)

Bea Since we can read our books in any order, what numbers do we use when posting?

For example, I am reading two books from my plan - The Distant Hours and Seventh Grave and No Body. The first is 15.2 on my plan and the second one is 15.5.

When I post, do they become 15.1 & 15.2 or do I use the number on my plan?

Please post in numerical order.

Katy | 1216 comments Would As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride count? It is by Cary Elwes "with" someone else but the someone else's name is much smaller on the cover...would Cary Elwes count as the author here?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14239 comments Katy wrote: "Would As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride count? It is by Cary Elwes "with" someone else but the someone else's name is much smal..."

Yes, we'll designate just Cary Elwes for this one.

Deedee | 2283 comments Kate S wrote: "Valerie wrote: "Can we read both halves at the same time?"

Yes, that is fine. Just make sure to be diligent in your numbering when posting. 15.1-15.5 are for A-M and 15.6-15.10 are N-Z."

Just realized that I've flipped the order, and I'm posting 15.1-15.5 for N-Z (female) and 15.6-15.10 for A-M (male). Oops, hope that's acceptable.

Quick question: I've posted 15.1 and 15.2 so far. I'm reading a book that would fit 15.6 (in my flipped system). Can I post out of order? In an order like this: 15.1, 15.2, 15.6, 15.7, 15.3, etc. or do I have to keep to: 15.1, 15.2, 15.3, 15.4, 15.5 etc.

Yes. You can work on the two halves at the same time.
