So, I have 3 choices for what to read next: A red book, a book with a musical instrument (unless Ray's bell works for that), or #12 in a series, though I'm least excited about that one. Thoughts? Or suggestions for a good 12th book that can be read non-sequentially?

Tammie wrote: "Bethany wrote: "So, I have 3 choices for what to read next: A red book, a book with a musical instrument (unless Ray's bell works for that), or #12 in a series, though I'm least excited about that ..."Eh... romance isn't really something I like, especially not as the focus of books.
I'm going with the strategy of "read a little bit of each book and then pick one based on the first chapter."
Ray (user2637) wrote: "Pretty sure Discworld can be read nonsequentially. #12 is Witches Abroad."Unfortunately I already read that for Wobble earlier!
Phooey. Well, I checked the various Goosebumps series for a short read but all were too few words.Found a Sherlock Holmes that seems to fit the bill:
. I like Holmes and wouldn't mind reading it, but don't want to claim 2 spots (still working on my Monk book for #11).Bethany wrote: "Unfortunately I already read that for Wobble earlier!"
Alright, who am I kidding? I'm totally going to read
, especially since I got it on my new Kindle and haven't transferred any other books to that yet, so it'll be a 'test' book. Kinda hate the Kindle already, but maybe I won't after reading on it?? This book is 430 pages in .mobi format! Weird! ebook files can be weird though. The screen's only 6" so I guess it makes sense... :/

Bold goals are unclaimed goals.

If it were a hand bell I'd consider it for musical instrument... but it's not. :( Still fits nicely in the bank, though!
Ray (user2637) wrote: "TA - HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban has rope on the cover, 31c."Oooo, nicely done! I totally would have skipped over that, hehe.
Yeah, it looks like 38 is probably not going to happen (darn trilogy tasks!)... time to put that under a spoiler, methinks. :)

Rose wrote: "I have internet again. Apparently a squirrel chewed through our line."Argh, squirrels and chipmunks are the most destructive little buggers. So happy to have you back!
Put your two books in the bank for the moment, it looks like we'll have a new task coming soon :)
Okay. It's also #3 in a series, and took place on a farm, albeit one that isn't used much anymore -- but the characters did refer to it as a farm.Kazen wrote: "Ray (user2637) wrote: "Finished:

Yea #12 in a series!
Just curious, do you have a Kindle Fire or a plain ol' Kindle? I love my Paperwhite (e-ink for the win!) but reading on backlit screens makes my eyes all @_@, hehe.

Hermes has informed Bookules that Fantasy is having trouble locating one of its most popular editions. We need to hurry as the weatherman has indicated a Storm Front on the horizon, our trusty sidekick is refusing to assist us, and the pizza place down the corner is inexplicably out of Toot's favorite.
◈ Read a book with a main character who is a wizard
◈ Read a book with a main character who is a police officer
◈ Read a book with a Fae character
◈ Read a book with a unusual sidekick
◈ Read a book with a main character who is a private detective

I'm going to claim 40D with the same book I used to claim it last time, my current read Marrying Winterborne. I would be farther along in it but I got to a steamy part on my way to work and couldn't bring myself to keep reading! ~sweat drop~
about Rays bell book. Those types are used for church bells, or pealing. the pealing can get pretty long and complicated for traditional events, so I would say we might count it as music.
I found a 'pemberly' book that I should be able to finish if no one else can...hoping someone has the musical instrument...for 37
Tammie wrote: "I found a 'pemberly' book that I should be able to finish if no one else can...hoping someone has the musical instrument...for 37"I have a musical instrument book that I think will work, but I'm not sure if I can get through that and my current book before the end of labors.
It's Fire HD 6 and it's going back! Rant --> (view spoiler) I've been reading on my backlit iPod for years and it doesn't bug me. I dim it waaaay down so I can read in bed without bugging my guy too much.Kazen wrote: "Just curious, do you have a Kindle Fire or a plain ol' Kindle? Margaret's banked Deathwatch describes the MC guy as "a burned-out small town cop" -- that would fit 40b, yeah?So for #40, we have..probably...?:
A: mc who is a wizard - Bethany reading
B: mc who is a police officer - Margaret bank
C: fae character - Rose bank
D: unusual sidekick - Kazen reading
E: mc who is a private detective - Rose bank
If you want to switch to the instrument book, we still have a TA Harry Potter book (#8) with wizards. :) Also Clean Sweep has (what I would refer to as) a wizard mc. Maybe Getting Wilde too. Not sure if there's a specific definition of 'wizard' beyond 'magic-user'.Bethany wrote: "I have a musical instrument book that I think will work, but I'm not sure if I can get through that and my current book before the end of labors. I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be a guitar.

I found a short western I can read after I'm done with #11 in series, unless someone else snags the spot first. I don't want to take two spots right now, but consider it waiting in the wings.
