I came across this challenge in another group, found it innovative and I thought of creating it here.

So this is where interested members of IR sign up for this challenge with their to-be-read shelf link. We'll randomly pair them with other members. Then one partner will choose a book for his/her partner from their (whatever to-read shelf link the other member has given) shelf and vice versa.

Once you choose a book for your partner you have to come here and inform about the chosen book. You have to also come here once you finish the book so that we know you have completed the challenge.

Hope you all enjoy this little challenge.:)

Even Manju gave a small list of 35 books

message 23: by Srividya (last edited Jun 06, 2016 09:49AM) (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 1859 comments Actually, it will be easy on the person picking if people were to sort their list into their immediate reads. I have done this for months with another group and know the pains of trying to choose from 100s of books in the TBR.

Mods - A suggestion - Could be that they narrow it into lesser number of books, where possible and make it easy for both the picker and the reader?

Am definitely in, although I have been known to slack at this but can't help joining.

One question - Any time limit for finishing these books? And how many books do we have to pick for our partner?

My Link : Immediate

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47116 comments Mod
good idea, Jaya and Sri.
SO all of us become cheaters, Akshay :P

We did not discuss any specific time. Since it is Manju's idea she has veto power. But what I think is that we will allow a few days for people to join in, then assign partners (in random), Then perhaps a month to finish reading (I know you will need only a couple of days, or hours), but many may need more time. :P

If this is a success, perhaps we can continue it, but giving time and space for people.

Glen D'souza | 207 comments I am interested. (This is the best way to finish my to read books).

message 26: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 1859 comments Ah but Syl when it comes to chosen books, I slack and often don't finish! I am bad that way! :P

Anyway, a month sounds good. In fact, in the other group where I did participate in this, it was a monthly event, where each person had to pick three books for their partner. One could read one book or all three, depending on their reading speed and the book etc. We used to come back and write a short review of the book we read, which often meant whether we liked it or not, not a huge essay as such. It was fun and I quite enjoyed it. Due to severe time constraints from my end, I had to stop participating but this challenge is still on in that group.

We created a separate folder in our shelves, which was named either 'my next reads' or 'pifm' or something like that and limited our books to anywhere between 20-50 to give ample choice to both the reader as well as the person picking while not making it difficult for the one who is picking.

My two cents. Just thought I should share it. :)

♛ Garima ♛ (gudzilla) I'm in too, but who would reveal my reading parter and when?

message 29: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47116 comments Mod
Garima, we will probably give a day or two for people to join in. Then the moderators are supposed to choose partners, by some random selection. Perhaps Manju will do this, perhaps all mods will chip in. Then the pairs will be announced in this thread itself. Then you get a couple of days to suggest books, then we start reading in earnest.

message 30: by Pavan (new)

Pavan B C (pavanbc) I am in too.

This is my list.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Also, let's assume A pairs up with B. Instead of A going to B's TBR list and choosing a book, how about B giving the title of a book to A? Wouldn't that be more fun?

message 31: by Ponyo (new)

Ponyo (ponyo2990) | 80 comments I am also in. :)

My TBR list.

message 32: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47116 comments Mod
I didn't understand what you mean. :D

A goes to B's TBR and picks a book for B. B goes to A's TBR and picks a book for A.
That is they mutually suggest based on each other's TBR.
Is what we mean..

message 33: by Pavan (new)

Pavan B C (pavanbc) Yes, instead of A picking a book in B's TBR list, why not B just tell A to read a book from his/her TBR?

message 34: by Sharadha (new)

Sharadha Jayaraman (jayaras) | 1795 comments This is brilliant response, I'm getting way to excited now :D As for what Srividya said, with all due respect, it's a brilliant suggestion - may I add to it and say that people can nominate the shelf of their own choice from where they want books to be picked (and not necessarily the TBR)? I think that that would give more power to the reader and less headache to the picker. Any which ways, Manju has the final say on how to organise this challenge.

message 35: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47116 comments Mod
Am loving the response too. :D
I dont think Manju will have objections. I am already in the process of creating my SOON TBR shelf as I have to wean nearly 1600 books of my TBR.. (but am enjoying the task :P)
