Team 1 'Forget-Me-Nots'
Almeta - I love the reporting thread!I'm going to aim for a minimum of 3 books (not decided which yet). I would love to read more, but 3 is comfortably realistic.
Annerlee You want to change our team name in this thread and in message one? Time to declare our identity!☺
Only you can do it!

Our name has been changed - it's official.

What do you think?..."
Somehow I missed this comment.
Are you volunteering? ha ha ha
If no comes forward to take on the task, I think it would be easy to keep track in the reporting thread.
Is is fun to see what everyone's reading all in one spot, however we will get the idea while chatting here.
Cathie wrote: "Knowing Almeta from other topplers it might have something to do with banana daiquiri, lol..."lol! Mmmmm....but NO!
Debra and I are going to try some Absinthe.
Just shows you how easily we are influenced by what we read. It played a major role in The Poison Artist by Jonathan Moore. Soooo Debra bought some for us to try. Saving it specifically for the Toppler. Its high proof will likely have us napping in no time!☻

Cherie wrote: "What are your asterics for, Almeta?.."Those are the ones that will work for the yearly Geocaching Challenge. Unfortunately most are over 300 pages, so I probably will not read many of them for the Toppler.
Lisa wrote: "Here are a few books that I am interested in reading. I don't think I will get to all of them but I should be able to read 2-3..."Good list, Lisa. It will be difficult to narrow it down.☺

Glasses time Old Mr Travis?"
Well my phone case is scratched to oblivion but yes it certainly could just be my eyes although I tgink I finally got all the dust flushed out from tillage work so they shoukd be working as good as they ever are. Which may not be that good
Oh! Your phone screen is fair enough. I have the same issues. But as we're the same age, maybe it's both our eyes?!?
Well I'm near sighted in one and far in the other so sometimes it depends if the angle I'm looking is using the best eye for the job. Even with glasses
I'm glad to hear that you really weren't trying to change teams, Travis. Me and your other teammates wouldn't be too pleased if you were. You better come and make nice :)
Almeta wrote: "Debra and I are going to try some Absinthe...."Why am I not surprised? LOL! You bought some, didn't you? I may have to make a trip and come see you.

You will be welcomed. It's a big bottle!☺
Janice, you would be welcome to come share our absinthe. We'd love it! However, I'm debating how wise it will be to imbibe in such a high-proof drink when we are trying to stay awake and read! lol
Paul Daniel: Practical Magic for magical realism.Glenn Frey: Houdini Heart for horror.
Muhammad Ali: The BFG for bigger than life.
Alan Rickman: The Slow Regard of Silent Things for fantasy.
Prince: The Windup Girl for dystopian.
There's 5. I think that's more than I can manage. But who knows!
Debra wrote: "Janice, you would be welcome to come share our absinthe. We'd love it! However, I'm debating how wise it will be to imbibe in such a high-proof drink when we are trying to stay awake and read! lol"Yes, it could be counterproductive, perhaps.

No tempting her!
jaxnsmom wrote: ". ...Janice would only be there to be sure you two drink enough to sleep for awhile. No tempting her!"That strategy has occurred to me as well!☺
Well here's my (current) list - subject to change:Paul Daniels - magical realism Skellig
Ronnie Corbett – humour An Idiot Abroad: The Travel Diaries of Karl Pilkington
Harper Lee – classic The War of the Worlds
David Bowie – SciFi William Shakespeare's Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope
Muhammad Ali – larger-than-life The BFG
That's 5 to aim for.... I'll see what and where I can fit them in....

I'm not going to reveal my strategy, because then you will guard against it. *evil cackle*
Debra wrote: "Haha, Janice you ARE evil!"I read a lot of Stephen King, and now Joe Hill. Oh, and Robert McCammon, too. Since we're talking about absinthe, we should add Jonathan Moore to the list of influences.

Some of my favorite authors!
Swan Song is Robert McCammon best. Oh, and the Matthew Corbett series.

Krabat sounds very interesting...
Seems like everything I want to start is short and I keep thinking I should save it for the toppler. I am enjoying the two group read books but I want to get to my Geo challenge books too. Too many choices!
Cherie wrote: "Seems like everything I want to start is short and I keep thinking I should save it for the toppler. I am enjoying the two group read books but I want to get to my Geo challenge books too. Too many choices! .."lol! I feel your pain!☺
I want to use the Toppler to tackle my GeoCache Challenge, but very few of the books chosen are short.
To keep myself occupied while waiting, I am reading short stories.
Funny, that is what I fell back on too. I am trying to make it through a book of short stories by Rudyard Kipling. They are hard. I tried to listen on audio. Some were good stories and I understood them but others were unfathomable. The printed text is better to some degree. Some are still unfathomable and I skipped them. The main story is going better and I am happy. I want to understand it and then I want to watch the movie of The Man Who Would be King.
Cherie wrote: "Funny, that is what I fell back on too. I am trying to make it through a book of short stories by Rudyard Kipling. They are hard. I tried to listen on audio. I read The Jungle Book and other stories before and never had any problems. I have Kim on my Geo challenge list. I think it is just the combination of the English Colonial mindset and the Indian words and slang that make some of it difficult. A couple of the stories are just whacky and make no sense at all.

Preußler's is very good author, so I'm sure Krabat will be enjoyable read. His The Little Witch was my favourite book when I was child
I think I can read 5 books. These are what I will start with, but I have plenty more on my list. Made into a Movie
Like Water for Chocolate I have started this one twice and never finished it. I am going to do it this time. This one is for my Geo challenge for Mexico.
Classic
Passing. I have two others but this one is for my Geo challenge for Australia. It is a Penguin Classic.
A book with a celebrity in it.
Leonard: My Fifty-Year Friendship with a Remarkable Man. Just because I need to.
A fantasy book.
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane I want to know who Edward is.
A book by a bestselling female author.
Girl Missing This is for the June Doctor Challenge.
I have a couple of books with transportation on the cover, one with a musician, and a sports book - that was also made into a movie and one listed as humor that I have had on my Nook for as long as I have owned it. Hopefully, I will be able to get to them.

Wonderful list Cherie. ☺

I have Like Water for Chocolate in my pile for next week as well. Considering you started it twice without finishing it, I think I will move it to the bottom of the pile. No point in getting bogged down! Team Not Fourgotten is out to win. :)

Except...I loved Like Water for Chocolate!☺

I found Like Water for Chocolate hard going at first too. It became enjoyable when I started thinking of it as a series of fantastical, short episodes (stories?) loosely linked together, with a recipe as a theme for each.
I found it best to read it in short chunks (2 chapters a day). It's a book to mull over rather than race through... A re-read helped me appreciate the common threads and overall themes.
If you're prepared for Latin passion seeped in magical realism, you'll maybe enjoy it more. It would be a shame to race through and never re-read it though (just my opinion of course)
