Thanks Marcos! Cheryl was referencing the discussion threads, which are up now. Thanks for taking care of the nominations!
Debbie wrote: "@Joanna I’m trying to add a shelf from website on my phone."If you go to “my books”, the shelves are the left hand side. At the bottom of the shelves, there is an “addshelf” button. That should be all you need to do.
Oh, my! I just now realized what Cheryl was asking about!! I totally forgot those. :-( Thanks for the recue!
@Joanna thank you. But I don’t havr that option. I’ll try on my laptop later, perhaps I’ll be able to see different options.
Hey I’m tori! I want to actively participate in discussion here, but how do I respond to comments on my phone app? There’s no option to!
Hi Tori, the phone app is limiting and doesn’t let you reply directly to a comment. If you want to, add an @[commentors name] to the beginning of your post and it should be clear what comment you are responding to.
When it comes to BOM discussions, I admit that I'm more of a "reader" than a "speaker." Part of the reason, I tend to read slowly and I get my books from the library, so I'm often late to the game. When I'm close to finishing a BOM in the appropriate month I shelve it with my EHRTBM books. But what if I get back to it month(s) later? Should/Can it count toward my annual goal? (I know I can read old discussions at any time.) Same question if I end up getting to a book so late that it's early?
Put more simply, am I aiming to read the same month or the same year?

Its a year-long Challenge, so as long as it’s finished by the end of the year it counts. It is a personal challenge, so however you keep track is ok.

I personally will count whatever books from the group's bookshelves I read in the year, since I am generally reading them for the challenge. Even if they were already on my "To-Read" list, this group and my goal for the group challenge is what pushed me to finally get to it.
It is noted: "Polls will be open until August 27." I think there should be the time, and time zone also mentioned? In my time zone it is only 2,5 hours till Aug 28th.

Cool, where are you?
The default time for the polls is usually midnight (or 11:59 PM) Pacific Standard Time. So you have a little over 11 hours from the time I'm typing this.
Two of the polls are very close. I can't decide where to throw my support. All my original votes are in third place.

Thanks Zeljika. Good point. The polls do default to PST but we can note that.

Thank you Nancy and Joanna for clarifying.
Darn, I intended to go back to change my votes to break the tie. Just my opinion, but I don't think you need a whole week.
Hello, I recently joined this group, and so far very much happy with my choice as it is versifying my reading list and am trying my best to keep up.
I do have a question though, as i am the kind of person who starts a series with the intention of reading all the books in that series. In the last month the group has gotten me started (or will get me started) on several series:
- His dark materials https://www.goodreads.com/series/4442...
- American gods https://www.goodreads.com/series/1141...
- Watership Down https://www.goodreads.com/series/9354...
- The hobbit: Arguably a prequal to Lord of the rings.
As this is flooding my TBR list, could the fact that a book is part of a series be taken into account when nominated?
That’s actually a great point Rana! I wonder if it would be worth while setting up a separate BOTM read for a book series. I guess it would have to be a fairly small book series to ensure everyone had the time to read it within the set period though.
These are interesting points, thank you for bringing them up. We have spoken about doing some type of series read as a group, so we'll get back to you on that.
Good news Rana and Cara, the Buddy Read Noticeboard is the place where you can suggest series (and other novels) that you'd like to read with other members. When you've found another person/s, we can make a thread specifically for that series or book. We think this is the best way to give a variety of options and choice when it comes to series (no matter how long) that people want to read together.
Let us know if you have any questions.
Not sure why I never thought to ask this before. Maybe because I think I know the answer, but…For the « Rereads », is there a quick way to see how our own members have rated the books? Just thinking we’re more of a known quantity (collective taste) than the whole of GoodReads
Allegra wrote: "Not sure why I never thought to ask this before. Maybe because I think I know the answer, but…For the « Rereads », is there a quick way to see how our own members have rated the books? Just think..."
I don’t believe so. You can look through the thread and it might show what commenters rated it. Otherwise I like being able to see how my GR friends rated a book which typically gives me a better idea than average GR rating.
Allegra, I think there is something similar to what you wanted to see. But not sure if I now how to explain it well🙁.On the Groups Menu on the upper right choose bookshelf.
You will get a list of all groups' reads.
Find the book you are interested and on the right the last column is view activity- when you press that and scroll down to the part "What members thought" you will find which members read it, reviewed it and how.
Hope that will be interesting for you👋
Julia wrote: "If you didn't get a chance to read a book one month, will it ever come back on the list again?"Potentially. Each month there is a bookshelf catch-up selection for books we missed. We do leave discussion threads open, though, so you can read a book anytime.
There has been a lot of activity on this thread so I'm sorry if this question has already been asked but I'm having trouble with what qualifies as a modern classic is the only requirement that it is written after 1970?
Hi, I'm not sure if there's a separate forum for this question, but send me there if this is the wrong place. I've just completed a book and I'm ready to add it to the Relay Race Reading Challenge, but the word count is confusing me. I've read the book in the Kindle app on my Android and the last sentence of the story is on page 323. However, in the Amazon Kindle store, the length is said to be 297 pages with the note: contains real page numbers based on the print edition. Which word count do I go with?

Hi Tennille, what does Goodreads say for the page count? Typically we use the Goodreads count for the print version since the ebook version is often not reliable. I would think the 297 page count is the one to use. Thank you!
Britt wrote: "Hello! Are we doing the Hogwarts House Cup challenge this year?!"Hi Britt, thank you. I'll post a discussion thread here in a few days to see what everyone's preference is on that challenge. It's on the table but it's been a weird year so we'd like to know what preferences are.
Hi Britt & Anjanette and anyone else interested -- I did post a thread to discuss the Hogwarts Challenge here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Ok, so where is the Bookshelf link? Looking everywhere on the app. I want to nominate a modern classic but don’t know if it’s been read before. Thanks.

The Bookshelf link is on the right side, in small print, that starts with GROUP HOME.

Hi! Just found this group and apologies if this has been asked before. If you've read a book previously I assume you can join in with the Spoiler discussion? I read the Old Man and the Sea (a Nov pick) in October before I saw this group, but want to join in with the chat :)

Cheryl - I posted the BOTM threads some days ago, nominations are already on their way! :-) Still have to send a message to everyone!
Joanna, I think it is all done, except for some details like starting the tracking. :-)
