Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 1285 comments Hi,
Elena (siriusedward), Kathleen, and I are planning on reading The Mill on the Floss in February. Others of course welcome to join. I'm guessing that's a book that already has a thread somewhere?

Do! It will be fun.

Bat-Cat | 986 comments Okay, okay, I will make every effort to join in. You twisted my arm. I'm excited, another George Eliot book - and I hear that it is "one of her most powerful and moving". For me, if it is even close to Middlemarch it will be a masterpiece! ;-)

All for one and one for all! And as many others who want to join our band of George Eliot musketeers ...

That's it! The next time I'm in want of a reading buddy, I'll just go to the buddy request thread and order four fried chickens and a Coke, and some dry white toast, and announce I'm on a mission from God. I'll let you all know what book to read after you agree to read with me. ;)

We haven't read that as a group read yet, so you can set up a new buddy read discussion thread for this if you like. I'll add it to the schedule now :)

message 167: by Stefania (new)

Stefania (shayleene) I'd like to start Moby Dick in a week, more or less. Does someone feel like doing a buddy reading with me? :)

message 168: by Brina (new)

Brina I started The Maltese Falcon. Is anyone else planning on reading it(

yip! I'm up to page 50 - enjoying it so far - very similar to movie (which is one of my faves)

I can't find an old thread for it - do we need a new one...?

message 170: by Brina (new)

Brina I think there is a thread. I'm also on page 58.

message 172: by Ellen (new)

Ellen B Whoo, lots of buddy reads on my schedule for March (Arthur, Dr. Zhivago, Phantom) plus Canterbury Tales. Hmm, how to plan this. :)

message 173: by Darren (new)

Darren (dazburns) | 2163 comments Pink - Thanks for putting The Great God Pan down for April :o)

buddy-read-wise this month I've just got Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions - not sure exactly when I'll start, but quite short so shouldn't be a problem to fit it in with my other reading...

message 174: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments No problem Darren. I'm looking forward to joining you for Flatland, I've had it on hold at the library for weeks, but thought I'd check project gutenberg and it was there. I know, you've probably already told me this somewhere before! Looking forward to starting anytime :)

message 175: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 468 comments Anyone else still up for Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions?
I still plan to read it, but probably not until later in the month.

Yes definitely, I've got a lot of other books on the go, but this one is only short, so I'm ready to start when everyone else is :)

Ellen B I'm about 30% through Phantom of the Opera right now if anyone is still interested. :)

message 181: by Darren (new)

Darren (dazburns) | 2163 comments yep, I'll get to Flatland right after Treasure Island...

Nell Beaudry McLachlan (lightfoxing) With April starting up in five days, just wanted to check in with the Darconville's Cat folks to see when exactly we want to start...it's a big book, I wouldn't mind being able to start at the beginning of the month! But it's my only Buddy read for April and I think some of you have others. :)

I'm in on this buddy read too, and I plan to start April 1st since it is so long. I think this may not be a quick, easy read either, so I want to give myself plenty of time. I'm sure Darren's schedule is quite full, so I'm eager to see what his plan is.

message 186: by Darren (new)

Darren (dazburns) | 2163 comments my April schedule is indeed "quite full" but I'm used to that ;o)
I'm keen to start Darconville’s Cat in particular though, so if people want to start on 1st that's fine by me! :o)

Hi! Did you post a new place to discuss the book?

message 193: by Melanti (new)

They're actually pretty empty since the group was a lot smaller & quieter when the book was last read.

I've just replied to your post on the buddy read request thread. Hopefully you've got an idea of who's joining in now, I know there's quite a few people interested. If you have any more questions, just ask, or message me. I'll add War and Peace to the schedule list above and include links there too.

Samantha | 104 comments hi...what is a Buddy Read compared to a group read? sorry...been reading other things for a bit and haven't tuned in for a while...

message 200: by Melanti (new)

Melanti | 1894 comments A buddy read is when a couple (or several) people in the group want to read & discuss a book that wasn't chosen for a group read.
