I know, if only we could have an 8th day of the week just for reading!

I vote Yes! I am so behind in my reading that I can't even to commit to buddy reads that I originally set up. I need 2 days a week for reading just to catch up.
Yes I vote for an extra 2 days as well. 4 day weekends here we come...now who's going to inform the rest of the world...
Seeing that The Three Musketeers is running away with the quarter read and we had planned on The Count as a buddy read for Jan/Feb, is anyone willing to table The Count for later? Just a thought.
I would love to read The Count, but I think it would be too much trying to read it at the time as The Three Musketeers.
Brina wrote: "Seeing that The Three Musketeers is running away with the quarter read and we had planned on The Count as a buddy read for Jan/Feb, is anyone willing to table The Count for later? Just a thought."Yep, those were exactly my thoughts!
Because I doubt I would even consider The Three Musketeers if it didn't win. I guess we will all reschedule The Count for later.
I feel the same, I wasn't planning on reading The Three Musketeers, but if it wins the quarterly poll I'll probably read it with the group. Then we can schedule The Count for later, maybe April time, or it might even win a group poll by then. We can decide in the new year :)
While I do consider The Count of Monte Cristo to be the better book, The Three Musketeers is an excellent read. I don't think you will be disappointed with reading it with us for the first quarter of 2017.
I'd like to fit in the sequels of The Three Musketeers too. Maybe one a year. Starting with rereading the original again with the group.
The Count and Musketeers both are my favourite books. I have read only the first sequel to musketeers, I want to read the rest as well. I had kind of forget about them. Thanks for reminding me!
I had been wanting to read The Count but can not let this opportunity to read Musketeers pass me by. Looking forward to reading both.
I don't mind delaying reading The Count but I am in two minds about whether to read The Musketeers or not. On one hand I am quite behind in reading LotR's and a few other things so using the time in the beginning of the year to catch up would probably be useful but on the other I always intended to read Musketeer's at some point and since the group is reading it... well I really can't decide.

If it helps, it is just over 700 pages not 1000 or more.

I'm in full agreement...The Three Musketeers with the group and then The Count of Monte Cristo as a buddy read later. First time reading both for me...so it's all good!

[bookcov..."I read these one after the other about 5 years ago and loved it. I do like series though and not everyone does. Still haven't read the Count though.
I hope the buddy read for the Count end up in May or after! I really want to read that one. I'm going to do 3 musketeers if it wins the quarter read but it will take me the whole quarter most likely.
Sue, I expect it will be around May for the Count buddy read, that leaves Jan-Mar for the Musketeers group read and a months break in between. We can make firmer plans next year on an exact date :)

Same for me as well. I'd like to read Lonesome Dove over the summer so it would be nice to get The Count out of the way first.
Just wondering, do we still want to have Doctor Zhivago and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn for buddy reads in December? Or shall I remove them from the list, as I think those who were interested seem to be planning these for 2017 instead now?
Great, we can make new plans next year, once everyone has more of an idea what they're planning for challenges and group reads, but I don't think we should plan too far ahead either :)
I'm still new to the whole Buddy read concept, but I will be watching for when Doctor Zhivago is scheduled. It's on my read list.
Angie, I'm sure that someone will post on the buddy read requests thread when they're thinking of starting. I'd like to read it early in 2017 myself, maybe in February, but I don't mind delaying if others want to read later.
I started Dr. Zhivago last month but have only read about 1/4 of it, if that. Not sure if I'll finish it before the end of the year. So I may join in with the buddy read next year too.
I'm also interested in a Doctor Zhivago buddy read, and February sounds good for me, but I also don't mind waiting.
I'm interested in Doctor Zhivago also. I'm definitely going to read it sometime in the year. If a buddy read is scheduled, I'll try my best to read it then.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn-- February if it doesn't win poll (Celeste, Brina, anyone else who wants to join)
I'll update with links for The Scarlet Pimpernel in Jan, when I'm back at the computer later. I'll keep an eye out for A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, to see if it wins the polls, it's currently 11 votes behind in 2nd place, with 11 days to go, so you never know! If it loses I'll add it to the list for Feb.
Do we want Doctor Zhivago also added for February, or would March be better?
I know we're planning The Count of Monte Cristo from May, but I don't want to start adding books to the list too far ahead. I think a rough 3 month plan of upcoming reads should work best, then we can still nominate for polls and not lose interest when the time comes.
Ellen- March to allow people to read both Tree and Zhivago just in case. May sounds lovely for The Count. I hope it's fast reading because I'd like to finally read Lonesome Dove in June.
Incase you'd noticed things had changed slightly, here's an update about our folders - We've made some small changes to our folder organisation. We now have a dedicated 'buddy reads' folder, which is separate to our existing 'book chatter - non group reads' folder. Our author folders will continue to only include books that have been voted for and won in group polls. This means that some collections, such as Shakespeare and the Sherlock Holmes series of books will be split between folders, depending on whether they've been a group read, or a buddy read. Of course a buddy read might later win a group poll, in which case the thread will be closed for new comments and links will be provided for the new group read discussion.
I hope this make sense to everyone. As a large and ever growing classics group, we are always increasing our numbers of posts and folders, so we try to do our best to streamline everything and keep the group as organised as possible.
FYI I've got a couple of buddies for A Tale of Two Cities in February in another group. If anyone is interested, I'll post the link
I am so glad that I joined this group! I am a TAD confused though as to what the January group read is...?

Current and upcoming group reads should also show up at the top of our home page. If you're having any problems navigating the site, or want to know anything else, just ask, or you can send me a message :)
Hi everyone, when this month is The Scarlet Pimpernel going to be discussed? I recently finished it (it was a quick and pretty fun read), and am looking forward to discussing it!
