When You're Not Reading a Cozy . . .
I just finished In the Dark Places by Peter Robinson. It is one of the Inspector Banks novels which have been made into a TV series. I don't usually read police procedurals but I enjoyed this one. I'm just about to start Tigerlily's Orchids by Ruth Rendell.

I'm rereading now Someone to Watch Over Me, that I've been waiting for it in ebook as forever and it has been published today.
Just finishing 11 by Kylie Brant, a rom suspense that was pretty good, other than the editing. Also still reading The Visitor by Amanda Stevens.
I'm currently reading You're the Cream in My Coffee which is much lighter than my last book. Nice change up.
Finished Razor Girl which was okay, not great but it was okay. Maybe it's just me.I've moved on to Venom & Vanilla since it's a fantasy and I haven't read that genre in a while.
Started several books this week
Still Life by Louise Penny
Movie Night Murder by Leslie Langtry
The Fires of Heaven by Robert Jordan, the other two are over in the cozy topic
Finished Deceptive Practices, thriller with a twist and I am now reading To Sir, With Love. I loved the movie and although I've only read the first ten pages the movie seems to have been just like the book.
Just finished The Provence Cure for the Brokenhearted by Bridget Asher. There is a mystery involved, although this is not categorized as a mystery. Very pleasant read - I enjoyed this story!
I just finished the first in the Rivers of London series,
by Ben Aaronovitch and I really enjoyed it. I'm also in the middle of
by Annette Marie, which is a really fun fantasy series.
Just finished reading the medical suspense thriller
Stillness and I've been listening to the classic
The Pickwick Papers
Kirsten, I hope you are enjoying Pickwick. I started it in Oct, and I've tried to get back to it, but just isn't enough time lately. It's too heavy to carry with me, and feels like I'me hardly home these days except to sleep. :-\
Having finished everything in message 268 except The Fires of Heaven I added 2 non-cozy books to the currently reading shelf:
The Face in the Frost by John Bellairs
Magician's Gambit by David Eddings
I'm reading Hunting Badger by Tony Hillerman. For some reason I've never read this series in order and actually I think I should have. Oh well, it's still a good story.
Finished Hunting Badger which made me want to read another Tony Hillerman but my ftf book club is reading People of the Book so I'll have to put that off until the new year. I already am committed to read three other books plus whatever book my book club selects for Jan so maybe not Jan.
I finished Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President. I cannot recommend it enough. It was a really interesting look at a president that usually gets overlooked in history classes. And it was a really well-crafted story, easy to read and engaging.
Started reading Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris Saturday night. I've read four of the twelve stories included, and so far the best has been the first, "The Santaland Diaries." IMO, the rest have not been as humorous as that one. On the up side, it has been a pretty fast read.
I finished People of the Book and Christmas Joy, both really good books. Now I'm reading a book of short stories, Coulrophobia & Fata Morgana.

Finished. Did not really care for it. :-\
Now reading Starry Night by Debbie Macomber, and enjoying it much more than my previous read.

I've been reading my interlibrary loan
The Fixer by Bernard Malamud, a Pulitzer Prize winner. A very intense book about a very heavy subject, the Jewish pogroms in Tsarist Russia. But you can substitute the word Muslim or Mormon or Catholic for the word Jewish to describe things that happen today.
Just finished earlier today
Enchanters' End Game by David Eddings. Now reading
Rapture in Death by J.D. RobbAlso reading
The Dragon and the George by Gordon R. Dickson
Just finished Robin Hood The Forester of Sherwood by David Vahlberg. It was a great book to read in you are interested in Robin Hood. I've just started Party of One: The Loners Manifesto by Anneli Rufus.
I'm currently reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I'm about 1/4 in and I'm not really sure how I feel about this book. I both like and dislike it, but I can't really explain why.
Sabrina wrote: "I'm currently reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I'm about 1/4 in and I'm not really sure how I feel about this book. I both like and dislike it, but I can't really explai..."Sabrina, I LOVED The Night Circus. Stick with it. The world the author creates is fantastic.
I don't normally read Westerns, but News of the World was recommended to me, and am I ever glad I read it! I gave it 5 stars, and here's my review:What a beautiful, lyrical book, perfect in every way! This is a historical Western that takes place in Texas after the end of the Civil War, but it's the development of and relationship between the two main characters that wraps around your heart: Captain Kidd, a grizzled veteran and former printer who now travels from town to town to entertain locals by reading news articles from foreign and national newspapers and Johanna Leonberger, a 10-year old girl who was kidnapped by a Kiowa tribe 4 years prior after they killed her family and who Kidd is attempting to return to relatives. This is a short book, and I couldn't put it down. I read it in a day and was sorry to see it end. I'll definitely be putting more books by Paulette Jiles on my to-read list. She thoroughly researches her subject matter and makes you feel you are actually living in that time period with those well-drawn people.
I'm currently reading one of my guilty pleasures, a trashy science fiction book called Aliens vs. Predator: Prey by Steve Perry.
I'm currently (slowly) listening to Joe Hill's The Fireman. Kate Mulgrew is an awesome narrator for the story. Fantastic book. When I'm not reading cozies I love thrillers and horror. :) Of course I read everything.
I finished Victoria in time for the mini series to air. It wasn't bad.
I also finished Médicis Daughter: A Novel of Marguerite de Valois -well written but didn't like it.

Finidhed
Hondo by Louis L'Amour. Gave it 5 stars. Now reading
Dragons at Crumbling Castle: And Other Tales by Terry Pratchett
I'm reading an ARC of The Clairvoyants. The beginning was more mystery but now the creepiness is slowly winding it's way into the story.
Reading The Boy Is Back
- I really enjoy this series. This one is on par with the others, good so far.
