Finished reading
The Importance of Being Alice by Katie MacAlister yesterday. This is a fun light hearted, funny, and sexy romance! The hero is an author of spy thrillers, the profits of which he uses to try and prop up his huge family and falling down English castle.

I just finished listening to
Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell Jr. I'm so glad I finally listened to this. The 1951 film is one of my favorite films of all time!

I'm reading Swine Not? A Pig's Tale by Jimmy Buffet. It's about a family who try and hide their pet pig while living in a four star hotel in NYC. The pig is searching for his long lost brother who lives in tgeccity I need something lighthearted to read for a change. It's a fun, easy, childlike book to read. It provides a stark contrast to my serious school work. I will go back to my historical fictional whenI finish this book. I don't have any mystery books that I plan to read in the next week or two.
I started a (re)read of O Pioneers! by Willa Cather last night for another group. I remember liking it in college, but don't remember it being such a fast read. I read almost half of it in one night.

I am re-reading it now (well, listening). Not only is it not boring, many of the elements are laugh out loud funny.
I'm reading Farewell to Manzanar: A True Story of Japanese American Experience During and After the World War II Internment and I have a Ruth Rendell next in line.
Yesterday I started
, the third book in the Lei Crime series by Toby Neal. I love this series, the main character, her partners, etc. Great crime mysteries, too.
Kirsten: I actually liked Great Expectations when I read it in HS and in college. I had actually seen the movie a few years before I read it -- came across it late one night while babysitting -- which piqued my interest in reading it.
I was hoping to finish, or come close to finishing, O Pioneers! over the weekend, but that did not happen. Too much going on with friends (for example, fireworks Saturday night). I am more than halfway through, though.

Blew through Farewell to Manzanar: A True Story of Japanese American Experience During and After the World War II Internment since it was on my Kindle and I always read so much faster on the Kindle. I have yet to figure out why but anyway it was an interesting memoir. Today I started a Ruth Rendell, Some Lie and Some Die. I forgot just what a wonderful author she was. I'm only 17 pages in and loving it.
I finished And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie last night. I had never read it before and really enjoyed it.

I finished reading
This Alien Shore by C.S. Friedman last night. This is an incredible science fiction epic (500+ pages) written in 1998 that read incredibly fast -- like a thriller, in fact. I only started reading this last Wednesday and finished it last night!

I finished reading my Kindle Unlimited selection
The Third Rule by Andrew Barrett last night. It's a real page-turner! I would read nearly 100 pages at a sitting it's just that good. I highly recommend it to those who like crime/political thrillers.

I just finished The Pursuit
by Janet Evanovich. Witty, with a twist or two.My Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Catching up on The Mortal Instruments series because I want to make an attempt to read the other spin off series :)
City of Glass by Cassandra ClareI read the first book some years ago..I think right around the time the 3rd had come out or was about to..started on the 2nd...but accidentally dropped it into the outside library return box just never went back for it...now, I am determined to try to finish this series after picking up the 2nd book at least 3 other times. :-)

City of Glass by [author:Cassan..."I read the first in this series and though it was extremely predictable. I had accidentally picked up her other series first (the Clockwork trilogy) and didn't realize they were supposed to be connected. Honestly if you read the Clockwork books without reading the Mortal Instruments first you'd never know there was any connection between the two. Plus I thought the Clockwork books were waaaaaaaaaay better then the Mortal Instruments.
Finally finished O Pioneers! last night. I breezed through the first 100 pages when I started it last week, then life kept getting in the way. I first read this book when I was college, so was hazy in how it ended. I knew it had something to do with a particular character, but wasn't clear on how. As it turns out, I was confusing part of My Ántonia, read in HS, with this one. Which means I should probably try to re-read that one of these days. Anyway, I enjoyed the writing, and the book overall was better than I remembered it.

City of Glass by [author:Cassan..."I read the first in the series and REALLY didn't like it. The movie was even worse! I understand the Clockwork books are much better.

I've read the first three and liked them all. The movie was so-so, definitely could have been better, but wasn't near as bad as the movie version of Beautiful Creatures.

I finished reading
Marrying Winterborne by Lisa Kleypas last night. Nothing like a good romance to help me out of a blue funk.

BEAUTIFUL CREATURES was unbelievably bad! Love the book, detested the movie!

'Scuse Me While I Kill This Guy by Leslie LangtryAlso actively reading
The Complete Sherlock Holmes and Tales of Terror and Mystery by Arthur Conan Doyle Yesterday I read The Five Orange Pips and am now partway through The Man with the Twisted Lip
Just started reading
by Dana Stabenow, which I'm using for two challenges my 50 states challenge and this months cozy mystery challenge. So far I'm enjoying it.
I recently finished
by Sandra Dallas. I gave it 4 stars. I really enjoyed this novel and all the historical information about being a midwife in late 1800s Colorado. The manslaughter trial and the relationship between the midwife and her husband were both interesting plot threads (and finding out who the REAL killer is was a mystery). The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I found the frequent reminiscences by the main character into her past kept pulling me out of the current story.
Just started
by Lisa Scottoline. Less than one quarter in but I am already hooked. Such a great author.
Carla wrote: "Just started

I am reading Sally Spencer's Charlie Woodend police procedurals - very interesting. And I just reread Chekhov's Uncle Vanya as I'm going to see it at the theater.

'Scuse Me While I Kill This Guy by Leslie Langtry what an absolutely fun read.

I am going to try and concentrate on finishing up the many children's books that I have accumulated on my kindle through Netgalley. There are over 20 so will take a week or two.

Good luck, and enjoy! :)
Good luck, and enjoy! :)
Finished our current book club selection,
by Tara Nesbitt. If you enjoy true stories, American history, true accounts of women, this is recommended for you.
Read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl yesterday for the Ultimate Challenge (book you can read in a day) and a July Mini Challenge. I then had to watch the classic movie again, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Yes, had. to.. (grin) It was interesting noting the differences between the two as I read the book (which, much as I love the movie, I never read as a kid).
So I am reading
. It is a fun middlegrade book and so far I am actually enjoying it as an adult. Quirky, kids will love it.
