My reviews for the weekend readathon books :)
Return of the Magi: A heartwarming Christmas story by P.J. Tracy 5★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Runaway Children: Gripping and heartbreaking historical fiction by Sandy Taylor 5★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
A Little Bit of Christmas Magic by Kirsty Ferry 5★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm reading Faceless Killers, love the dark Nordic mysteries and since I am working on my Christmas spirit, The Christmas Sisters.
I'm setting aside Mary Barton for the time being. I finally reached the midpoint, but it's just not pulling me in, though I've been assured by others it starts to move along much faster from this point. Maybe after the holidays...
In the meantime, I have read a few short works of fiction:
* The Christmas Bake-Off by Abby Clements (Short story)
* United in Freedom by Marcia Lynch -- found this in the clearance section at HPB, in like-new condition for only a buck. Middle grade story set during the Civil War.
* Home for the Howlidays by Chloe Cole -- Urban fantasy/Christmas Novella featuring shifters

My review for
Christmas at the Vicarage by Rebecca Boxall 4.5★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Hi Heather LI have not read Mary Barton but I have read other works by Elizabeth Gaskell: Ruth, Wives & Daughters and her Gothic Tales. Would you not recommend Mary Barton? I can recommend the 3 books I have read, especially Ruth. It is certainly not slow paced.
My review for Two Weeks 'til Christmas by Laura Greaves 3.5★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just starting Gideon's Sword
. I haven't read either of the authors before, but I am liking it so far.
My review for
Hercule Poirot's Christmas by Agatha Christie 4★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Ruth: I have not read anything else by Eliz. Gaskell, so I've nothing to compare Mary Barton to. It's not that it's a bad story, it was just slow-going for me -- partly because of writing style, partly because I have too much going on right now.
Finished Winter Street by Elin Hilderbrand Saturday night. This is another new-to-me author so I don't know what her other books are like, but I found this to be one of the most depressing Christmas stories ever. Not sure whether I would read the next book in this series or not. I certainly would not pay full price for it.
I've returned to cozies now, where I actually expect mayhem, dysfunction and murder for Christmas.

I must admit I prefer my Christmas stories to be upbeat. Anticipated mayhem, dysfunction and murder is another matter!
Started A Baker's Year: Twelve Months of Baking and Living the Simple Life at the Smoke Signals Bakery
by Tara Jensen. Won on goodreads.
I've read Christmas at the Comfort Food Cafe and now reading Coming Home to the Comfort Food Café. I've skipped the first book since I am on a Christmas hunt and both these books take place at Christmas time. May go back and read the first one.
I've been reading Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race by Margot Lee Shetterly today.

I don't normally post a book unless I've finished it, but I'm making an exception for this one because at 15% into it, it is truly special. An English romantic-suspense with humor. I am in love and it is currently available on Amazon for $0.99.

Me too and I love some of the conversations between Eve and Peabody. I have Chaos in Death to listen to. I've never listened to a book before.
The audiobooks of the In Death series are SO good. I've gotten so I only do these book with audio. Susan Ericksen is SO good.
I love Susan Ericksen as narrator for the In Death series. I even went back to the prior books in the series and got all the audiobooks besides the ebooks. I love Susan Ericksen's She-body, Trini, among others.
Currently reading two for Christmas, one print and one ebook: Comfort and Joy by Kristin Hannah and Holiday With A Vampire: Christmas Cravings / Fate Calls by Maureen Child and Caridad Piñeiro.
