When You're Not Reading a Cozy . . .

There were excellent film adaptations of A Room with a View and A Passage to India in the 1980s. Both with too many stars in to mention them all, but Maggie Smith and Judi Dench were in A Room with a View and Peggy Ashcroft in A Passage to India.

Books and movies equally wonderful. Howard's End is another one.
I've put The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat temporarily aside because I picked up Before We Were Yours from the library yesterday. Alot of buzz on this one, we'll see!

I'm reading The Pilot's Wife The Pilot's Wife Not sure how to classify the book. I remembered seeing it as a TV movie quite some time ago. From what I remember, the movie followed the plot, but not the story (does that make sense). Perhaps I read too many mysteries (is there such a thing?), but I hope the author resolves the reason for the crash by the end of the book.
I am reading Tales from the Hilltop: A summer in the other south of France, for my last book in the June Mini Challenge. Enjoying it!

They must, LOL! Finished reading it Sunday morning and enjoyed it.

I finished "When Breath Becomes Air" yesterday, by Paul Kalanithi. I did a review of this book....it was a double-edged sword type of book, very well written, but I knew the ending and some of the book made me very sad indeed. If you have had someone in your life who has had cancer, or if you yourself have had it, it will strike a chord. Although I would highly recommend this book, I had to read a comedy after, as a sort of palate-cleanser, because it made me very weepy and melancholy for a time. Now back to some good old cozies for me!
Risk No Secrets by Cindy Gerard 4-StarsHot romance, nail biting suspense
My Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I've read the first few chapters in The Baker's Secret, by Stephen Kiernan. The book is set in a small, occupied village in France, in World War II. Powerful and engrossing. Can't wait to get back to it!

I still remember the film.
I still remember the film.
I finished reading/listening to (and enjoying!) the audiobook, The Girl with No Shadow, Chocolat series, book 2, by Joanne Harris. I've read all 3 in the series now, and would love for her to write another!

Rereading The Incurable Matchmaker - I needed an 'I' for the JUIN challenge, and it's been years since I read this. Enjoying it very much...

I liked it. I felt like you could definitely tell it was written by two people, though. Very fast read. I finished it in about an hour and a half. Did you read
11/22/63 or his Mr. Mercedes trilogy? All really good reads and not your usual King fare.
Closer Than You Think by Karen Rose 5-StarsAnother fantastic mystery w/romance

Thanks, Melodie! I have not read any of the other ones you mention either, but will put them on my TBR List! Perhaps I can fit them into the Summer Challenge. :)
I'm currently reading (listening to audiobook) The Dressmaker's War, by Mary Chamberlain. Am enjoying it! Is another World War II story, since I've become interested in that era again.
I just got
Dangerous Minds. I don't know what could make a better long weekend than waterskiing and Janet Evanovich. I'll tell you all about it on Monday.
The Drowned Girls by Loreth Anne White 4-StarsDark, intense and riveting

The first season was sort of like the 1st book, but that was about it. The 4th book, DEAD TO THE WORLD, is my favorite. I loved the books and the TV show!

Really? I thought both the books and the TV series would be similar. I guess if they are different it is hard to make the usual comment that the book is better than the movie!
I finished Seduction in Death by J.D. Robb yesterday. Thank you to all the people in this group that recommended these books. I love them.
Dangerous Minds by Janet Evanovich 4-StarsDangerously funny
My Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished
Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames earlier today. Now reading
Any Means Necessary by Jack Mars
I just finished reading The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club. I know many of you will quibble with me and say this is a cozy. While it has much in common with a cozy, I don't qualify Golden Age mysteries (Christie, Allingham, etc) as cozies. Also, if you like Christie, please try a Lord Peter book! Much better than Poirot or Miss Marple.

Thanks for the information! I love all the other Evanovich books, but have not read any of the Knight and Moon series. More for my happy TBR List! :)
I am reading and listening at the same time to
, Book 1. It's rather weird and humorous and I was about to quit. But as I got into it, I am liking the oddity of it. The narrator is the actor Fisher Stevens and I can imagine him as the character, for some reason.
Now reading
Bring the Jubilee: What if the South Had Won the Civil War? by Ward Moore. A classic alternate history novel written in the 1950s.
Just finishing up Bound Together by Christine Feehan - gotta love those scary Prakenskii brothers...
One book, The Piano Tuner for my ftf bookclub, one book/play, The Tempest for a challenge and one audio book, Longbourn just because.
Race Against Time by Sharon Sala 4-StarsChildhood love rekindled in effort to takedown a real baddie

Finished Come Sundown Sunday morning -- one of her more disturbing plots.
Started Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery yesterday for another group's July read. It's been ages since I first read this book and am enjoying my revisit.

This is my favorite book. I usually read it once..."
Speaking of travel, the book I just love is A Room with a View. I just love that book! Such a satisfying read! :) I've never read "80 Days" though - I'll have to give that a whirl.
