When You're Not Reading a Cozy . . .
Last Thursday I picked up Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell for only $1.99 as the Barnes & Noble "daily find," and started reading it that night after finishing the book I had been reading. Well worth more than the money paid for it! This young adult novel is on the Banned Books list due to language and "adult" situations, but is one I would highly recommend to any mature teen, or adults who enjoy YA. I finished it Saturday evening and wanted more.

Turn of the Screw is one of those stories that I adore, being a huge fan of gothic fiction. However, Mr James is very wordy and can nearly lose you.

Good book! Have read that one a couple of times.

I started that one on my Kindle some time back and really liked it as far as I got. I should pick it back up again. I hate reading books on my Kindle, so it takes me forever on that thing! I also really like her

Loved that book!

I really enjoyed this. The stories range from light and funny (heavy on the irony) to larger narratives about the future of Man.

Wow. This book is incredible and I did not see the twist at the end coming. But be warned this is at the least a 6 kleenex cry at the end.
It's been a long time since I read a book where I wanted to go back to page 1 and start over. But I really would like to do that with this one.

The order I plan to read them in:
The Justice Riders
The Gods of Gotham. (the non civil war book)
Galveston
Red River

Really enjoyed it. Great adventure. But the format can be annoying for someone with impaired eyesight. I wonder if it would've been better as an audio without all the visual tidbits they give you in the book.

I listened to it on audiobook and thought it was decent in that format (full cast audio). I was not as in love with it as a lot of my GR friends but it was a solid book.

Glad you finally got round to this book, and enjoyed it, Nancy!

PS - If you have an in with Goodreads administrators, I hate the new change. I can barely see that light grey (or is it gray) they use for previously clicked links.

Heard many good things about this book. I'd add it to my TBR, but that stack is way larger than I'd like at the moment.
Am nearly done reading Skin and Other Stories by Roald Dahl, which was the May read for another group. Only two stories left, which I hope to complete tonight.

I still haven't gotten around to that one but I've been trying to read books that I own. I'm just happy I'm up to date on the Fire and Ice Series by George R R Martin.

Finished this one Saturday morning. I was hoping to knock it off Friday, but was too tired to read by the time I got home that night. Pretty good collection of stories, at least one of which I had previously encountered. According to the group discussion for it, some of the stories have also apparently been adapted to television.

Kirsten, you are a braver soul than I. I had to watch the movie version for that during a college course -- very disturbing. I HATED it, and it did not make me want to read the book.

Love the Lunar Chronicles! Hope you enjoy them!

I read that one a long time ago but I do remember finding it difficult to read because of the creative/futuristic language. I didn't always figure out what they meant.
I'm reading More Tales of the City which I have no trouble understanding.

I reread Anne of Green Gables earlier this year.

I love this series of books. As soon as I find out the title of the next one to come out I put in my request at the library.

I have book 4 available on my Nook along with the first short work, book 7.5 I think. I had the villian figured out in this one fairly early, but I hoped I was wrong. I will be looking carefully at book 4 when I get around to reading it and hope I haven't detected a pattern as to when the "bad guy" is introduced. That being said I still enjoyed the book primarily for the background on Eve's childhood and the back story on Sommerset and Roarke and the promotion of Peabody to major character status

I like the interaction of the characters best of all. How Eve and Peabody solve the murder(s) is good too.

Have been meaning to reread at least the first book for some time, but never seem to get round to it. One of these days...
I started a nonfiction this week, Journal of a Solitude by May Sarton. This is a genre I rarely read, but I came upon this in the clearance section of Half Price Books recently (only $2!) and it sounded good.

I've read that one twice, and enjoyed it both times. I haven't read one of his yet I haven't liked.

Finished reading Little Black Lies by Sharon Bolton last night -- finally! I really wanted to enjoy this more than I did. For some reason, it just never really grabbed me.

I just finished Blood Orchids (Lei Crime, #1) by Toby Neal this morning. Wow, what a great, straight up mystery! I couldn't put this book down. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

I am just finishing up Hide Away (Eve Duncan, #20) by Iris Johansen and will be starting Me Before You (Me Before You, #1) by Jojo Moyes

I just started reading an Indiana Jones-esque book called Owl and the Japanese Circus (Adventures of Owl, #1) by Kristi Charish by Kristi Charish.

I am listening to The Good Girl by Mary Kubica but I don't like it as much as others seem to. I liked Kubica's other mystery better.
I also decided to start the second Lei Crime book, Torch Ginger (Lei Crime, #2) by Toby Neal, since I loved Blood Orchids (Lei Crime, #1) by Toby Neal so much. So far Torched Ginger is quite different from Blood Orchids but I still like it.

Now continuing my read of A Multitude of Monsters (The Ebenezum Series) by Craig Shaw Gardner.
