Hi, I'm Debbie and thanks to Dorcas I have just joined the group! Airs Above The Ground was an enchanting book for me years ago, and in reviewing the lists here I remember reading some other titles...Nine Coaches Waiting for one....but it's really been years and years (and years) since I've read Stewart. I'm looking forward to at least talking about the books and I hope I can read some too. I know I have a few in my library up in Arizona (also known as my Mom's house) but here in Mexico I only have Airs Above The Ground. I need to ask Mother to prowl the used book stores for me so that when I visit for a week in November I can have a supply to haul back down here. Well, anyway...sorry to babble...I get excited. =)) Looking forward to getting to know everyone!!

Yay! Welcome Debbie! Bummer about the book supply...are you familiar with Openlibrary.org? if you have a computer/ tablet or smartphone you can download or borrow TONS of old books in eformat. I just checked now and they have This Rough Magic on their shelf but its currently checked out. Still you can "join the waiting list " and they let you know when its available. Ive done that several times. It is a real treasure trove when your library's selection is scarce...
Thanks, Dorcas! I'll check it out. I read tons of books on ReadCentral.com but they are the older, neglected types that I also love. I had not been able to find a place for newer books. Not sure about downloading, Marco is suspicious of that (leftover from his hacker days when computers were young and so was he....HA!!) but I will definitely go take a peek.
Welcome, Debbie! Some of us in this group are doing a group read of This Rough Magic in 2 or 3 weeks, if you can find a copy.
Oh no worries. The only ones you can download (for keeps) are the out of copyright public domain ones. All others are borrowed (just like a real library) for 14 days. So the Mary Stewart ones can only be borrowed. But its great to have that source and saves gas too :)
And if you have the Overdrive App you can borrow from real brick and mortar libraries, project Gutenberg, Openlibrary and other (legit) sources.
Welcome Dabbie. We are a fun group if I do say so myself. Hope you are able to join us for This Rough Magic. It's my favorite.
Hi Debbie - so glad you joined our group! You have alot to look forward to in re-discovering Dame Stewart :D
Thanks Karylne, I will try!!And thanks to you also, Hannah. You aren't kidding about a lot to look forward to....I had forgotten how many books she wrote!! =))
I found this site when looking for a place to read George Orwell's Animal Farm for a September group read:http://www.readanybook.com/
Got all excited because they have modern authors as well as the oldies....found Animal Farm so I'm set there, unless they turn up with the copyright issues I read about on another classics site (book was listed there but the text had been removed) Then I had the brilliant idea to look for Mary Renault too...and they do not have a single one of her books!! Poot.
Just found you all today. Short on time and will appropriately introduce myself later. I'm glad you are here. :)

Glad you made the *leap* over from the Gothicked board :D
Welcome Debbie (a bit belatedly) and welcome Debbie! Two in a row. :)
Thanks Jeanette...and welcome to Debbie from Debbie...this should be fun. My mother's inspiration was Debbie Reynolds...how about yours?
Debbie wrote: "Thanks Jeanette...and welcome to Debbie from Debbie...this should be fun. My mother's inspiration was Debbie Reynolds...how about yours?"My mom loved Debbie Reynolds, too, but I didn't get named after her!
My mom loved Jeanette MacDonald, but I'm really named after my father's sister, Jeannette.
My mom was reading about Nicholas and Alexandra at some point during her pregnancy with me. Tatiana wasn't unusual enough, I guess, so she had to get creative with the spelling. I like it now, but it was a tough name when I was a kid.
I was supposedly named after-wait for it-the reigning Miss Washington State. I think I should go see if this is true...
She died in 2010. How I wish I'd thought of checking this out earlier-- it probably would have tickled her to have a stranger namesake!
This seems like a fun group, and more active than some I am a member of. Thanks for the welcomes. I wanna get in on the group read. And I didn't know about some of those websites to get books from. Glad for all the new information. I am currently reading Thornyhold by MS. I read some of the Merlin books as a teen, but don't remember any others. I do enjoy gothic quite a lot. As for names, it would be kinda cool, I would think, to be named after a movie star or someone famous. But, I was not. Tho, I have often thought about telling ppl I was named after Debbie Reynolds, bc, well, it would be cool. No, my mom just said she had always liked the name Debra and it went well with Lynne (and we are Southerners), so, Debbie came about at some point. I prefer it. :-)
Thanks Hannah! Sorry, I was looking at all this from my phone today. Now that I am on my laptop I can see I made the leap bc you posted the link on the other group we are in. Thanks!!!!!!!!! I am excited to share books in this group. Ready for a good group read. Hate I missed Rose Cottage. I see it was awhile back. I have wanted to read that one too.

But only at my doctor's office, and I still cringe a bit when they call my name because I was only Debora when I was in trouble! =))

I think it will be a lot of fun to do the group read. I've only done a couple with other groups on here. But they are not very active anymore. This group is lively.
Hi my name is Mary Beth! I'm from Columbus Ohio. I've only read one Mary Stewart book and that is MY brother Michael. I love Gothic Suspense and I am need to this group. I am really looking forward to the group read.
Welcome Mary Beth! Glad you found us. :)

Thanks all and Thanks Debbie for notifying me about this group. I'm glad to be here and I like this group. It's so much livelier than other Gothic groups!
Welcome to the group Mary Beth! Will you be participating in the This Rough Magic group read coming up Sept. 19th?
Yes, I definitely will. The book seems really good. I am really looking forward to it!! I already reserved it at the library, and I should be getting it any day now.
Mary Beth and I were waiting around for something to happen on a few other groups. Sigh. This one is hopping! NO sitting around here. heeee
This group was pretty quiet until about a year and a half ago, too. I think alot of GR groups have cycles of activity and in-activity.
hmmmm, true. When I first joined Gothicked (not sure of spelling at moment) and another gothic group they were fairly active and did more group reads. I was not so active at that time, too much going on. So, yeah, that makes sense. Right now I am itching for a buddy read, and am rediscovering MS. I had been mostly just a fan of her Merlin novels previously.
