Good audio, although he occasionally forgot to change voices in short pieces of dialogue

The Yard (The Murder Squad #1) by Alex Grecian The Yard Completed 5 September 2014 ★★★☆

Kristie | 3595 comments Just finishe # 17 & 18

Year Zero by Rob Reid Kind of funny, kind of weird. Just finished it 5 days ago and the details are already fading from memory.

The Giver (The Giver #1) by Lois Lowry Good story, but the random dramatic music was very distracting. I would not recommend this as an audio, even though the narrator was good.

I've downloaded the dramatisation version of Treasure Island from Librivox for our next BOM so that gets another category done :)

I loved the Corrina Chapman series by Kerry Greenwood that I got free from the library Borrowbox. The first book is Earthly Delights.

The Fault in Our Stars was great on audio.

Anything by Liane Moriarty, I read The Hypnotist's Love Story by audio last year.

Danielle | 6 comments I was looking at Amy Poehler's new book "Yes Please" (coming out later in October) and noticed it's narrated by Amy Poehler, Carol Burnett, Seth Meyers, Mike Schur, Eileen Poehler, William Poehler, Patrick Stewart, Kathleen Turner. I think this is definitely one I'll be listening to! I suppose it could work for a full cast, if people need ideas for that one?

Sounds good, thanks for the recommendation!

#25 done
A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki A Tale for the Time Being Completed 7 Oct 2014 ★★★

Audio is narrated by the author who does quite a good job. Particularly as she has to switch at times between French, Japanese and English

#26 done
Mindfulness for Beginners by Jon Kabat-Zinn Mindfulness for Beginners Completed 6 October 2014 ★★★

Lauren (laurenjberman) Finished my first book for the challenge, Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, #2) by Deborah Harkness . I'm really enjoying this series. I love the historical detail and the symbolism. Although Jennifer Ikeda's narration is slow (necessitating x1.25 speed), it is also very immersing and her accents are excellent.

Completed: October 7th, 2014, 4★

I've just started Book 3 of that series Lauren. The buddy read discussion thread is here if you'd like to join

Although I haven't read them on audio, I have heard good things!

Kristie | 3595 comments Just started my book #22, Vicious. I borrowed the book from the library and never had time to read it, so I just bought it on Audible. I'm enjoying it more on audio than I initially did in print.

I listened to A Discovery of Witches. I thought the book was too detailed and drawn out for my taste, however the narrator did a good job. If I had gotten it on Audible and been able to listen to it at 1.25 speed, as Lauren did, I might have enjoyed it more.

Thanks Karen! I will definitely be joining in the discussion although it will be next month as I've a few audio buddy reads lined up for the rest of October.

I agree Kristie. The increase in speed was essential. Harkness is a very detail oriented writer and it is all very interesting and immersing, but it can get tedious at a slow speed. I do think that the books could do with some editing but the story and characters are truly excellent.

#27 completed. I love the librivox narrator for these books (Karen Savage)

Volunteer narrator
Anne's House of Dreams (Anne of Green Gables, #5) by L.M. Montgomery Anne's House of Dreams Completed 11 October 2014 ★★★★

message 246: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Finished book #2 for the challenge - Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan - a very thought provoking read, but a little too heavy on the techno-babble. Ari Fliakos's narration is lovely. He captures the quirky personality traits of each and every character.
