I feel like I'm being Mama Bear for my team, finding the highest page counts I can for everyone else's books. lol

I will never understand the whole adjusted points system.
Points are adjusted based on how many books each team has read so far this year. If one team had 5 people who could each read 60 books each per month, and another team had 5 people who could only read 2 books each per month then it wouldn't be very fair.
I see. Thanks for explaining it.

Isn't that why they choose what difficulty team they want to be on? Does that mean that teams with fast readers are disadvantaged?

No I don't believe so. It just balances out so that if one team has 5 fast readers and another has only 1, it's more fair
This was the same thing that happened in March. The whole adjusted points thing. It kinda discourages you from reading. Reward people that don't read much. I think this was discussed in March. This didn't happen in April because of the nature of the challenge. But I didn't think it was going to happen this month. I hope Sarah lets us know early on future challenges if this will happen. It kinda takes the fun out of it.
I don't think it's necessarily rewarding people who don't read, but making the teams more fair. It's impossible for Sarah to know how people will read, so if teams are becoming very obviously unfair, adjusting the points is the only way to make it possible for the teams who have less strong readers. Otherwise the teams with not as many fast readers get discouraged, and that's not fun either
They should just have more categories, because serious could be anywhere from like 15-40 books a month. There should also be serious serious :p
Haha... I agree with you Maddison. I think we will just never be happy. At this point I just want to know when the challenges start if adjusted points will be done that way I will know wether I want to take part in the challenge or not. I hate complaining as Sarah and Abby are always looking for ways to make things fair.
True but it stops people from being discouraged. Or there could just be less people per team, say like 3-4 rather than the current amount of like 7-8, right?

Yeah that's fair. It does make a difference.

I don't know about a disadvantage, but I just think it's confusing. I mean, it seems like even if you read the most, you could still lose.
I understand the idea of the adjusted points being based on what people had read up to this challenge but my question is why aren't the teams more evenly matched to begin with? I kind of thought that when teams were being made that people were placed based on what they had read, for instance one on each that had a high number, a couple with mid-range etc etc... It seems each team then should have a fairly close amount read to begin with and the adjustments wouldn't seem so extreme if needed to make up for missing teammates.

Just a thought too, while the idea behind going by what was previously read is probably the only thing that could be used to judge to set up the teams that isn't exactly perfect either. Some signing up could be really strong readers that were just busy prior to the month they joined and have very little read up to then. And on the flip side some that have huge numbers may have a busy month and do a lot less than they normally would but still make the more than 12 so it wouldn't make sense to not join serious but hurt their team since they wouldn't be doing their usual high numbers.
I understand the whole being fair if one team has more members than the others. But take the team in 2nd and the team in 3rd. They both have the same amount of members, they are all participating but the places are reversed.
Yeah exactly, I agree with you Victoria. I suppose the mods are doing their best though. It must be so hard to keep up with all of these challenges!
There really is no way to make everyone happy. That's probably why they have the solo option but it doesn't look like many people do it.
I think it might also be hard since people might switch team categories from month to month. For example, I was on a medium team in March, a fun team in April, and I am on a serious team this month.
That's also a fair point about the solo option, but I feel there's a lot less motivation going solo.
And I also suppose if I was in a team opposing those really fast readers I would feel demotivated, so the PA works quite well.
Can I read
(it's a GBR) and count it for this challenge even if I read in once two years (or more) ago but never reviewed it.P.s. do we get a point for buddy read for this book bc I'm not sure it has more then 200 pages?
Yes you can re-read it ☺ The paperback version has 304 pages so it will count for a buddy read point.
It's a little demotivating to have some teams with 6 members all active and then others struggling. Our team (Pineapple) had someone check in back in April and we haven't seen her since. It's impossible to know if she is just reading and saving reviews up because her account is set to private.I don't understand why teams would have different amounts of members at serious level. I also wonder how it's possible to adjust someone's score who hasn't been posting when their profile is private? I don't understand the adjusting system at all, though I understand it's done with the fairest of intentions.
As stated previously, we try to balance the teams as fairly as possible, but when people drop out or join late, it's not always possible to keep them balanced. We only use points adjusting when its necessary, and unfortunately in this challenge the teams are not very balanced.
