I have to agree about this. I thought the writing and character development were especially great.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I finished the Wheel of Time series yesterday. I was not overly impressed with the prequel. Still, the series was pretty fun overall. Still can't believe it's been over a year since I started reading!

message 257: by [deleted user] (new)

Right now I am reading Insurgent by Veronica Ross. So far it's good. Finished the first one a while back but this one seems good too so far.

message 258: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I remember liking that one. I actually read it before Divergent...hope you keep enjoying it!

message 259: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments How did you do that Courtney?
Congratulations on finishing the series!

message 260: by Courtney (new)

Courtney Judy (courtneyjudy) So I've just stared HP and the Cursed Child, but full disclosure...I've never read any of the HP books, and I'm fairly certain I've watched at least three of the movies from start to finish. So far, I'm enjoying it...should be interesting...

message 261: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments You should read the series, Courtney! Cursed Child was...well, I was not much of a fan. But Scorpius, he was fantastic. Still though, I get so irritated with that play. I do think it would be fun to see though.

C.P. wrote: "I remember liking that one. I actually read it before Divergent...hope you keep enjoying it!"

I am enjoying it a lot. I saw the movie first and it's a little different but not bad at all :)

message 263: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I only watched the first movie. Were the others good? Are they finished with them?

message 264: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I think they still have one more to go.

message 265: by Allie (new)

Allie I have heard mixed things on the Cursed Child, mainly the play format. I have read plays before, but maybe a lot of the younger HP fans have not lol. It would be fun to see the play more than read it maybe. I like how the original 7 ended. Kate, I thought Insurgent was the best in the book series. I couldn't get past the beginning of the movie though lol. Too much running. Right now I'm reading A Woman in Berlin by Anonymous, about a woman living in Germany during Hitler's time when it is overtaken by the Russians, a woman's diaries. It is interesting.

message 266: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Ooh, that sounds like a really interesting book. You'll have to share your ending thoughts.

C.P. wrote: "I only watched the first movie. Were the others good? Are they finished with them?"

I've only seen the first two movies. I really liked the it obviously the books are different. But not that much. I know that there are two movies for allegiant

Allie Jackie wrote: "Ooh, that sounds like a really interesting book. You'll have to share your ending thoughts."

Yeah it was pretty good! Interesting and disturbing to read about what some of the women in Germany went through during that time.

message 269: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Glad you enjoyed it, Allie! War stories can be rather frightening.

I finished The Black Prism recently. I really enjoyed it. Dawnie and I will be starting the second one next week. It has some fun characters and an interesting magic system.

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I'm almost done reading infidel, and although it's not my favorite book, it is really one that makes me think. I definitely don't agree with everything the author is saying, but I really like reading about her experiences and reading about Islam from someone who lived as part of the religion. Still, I think that I need to read more books that align with her views, but also that oppose her views to form a full opinion.

message 271: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments What is Infidel, Jackie?

I'm working on Scythe (which is great), Beastly Bones (which is quite brilliant), and The Order of the Phoenix (which is quite enjoyable and might be my favorite HP now).

message 272: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments It's basically a memoir of a woman's life growing up in the Islamic religion and how she left the religion, joining the dutch Parliament, and then moving into the United States. She is a very controversial figure because she rejects Islam and in my view of how I am interpreting the book, says that it is not a peaceful religion, but that it only represses women.
I don't think I am giving a very good summary, but I do think it is well worth a read.

message 273: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I think that makes sense. Glad you're learning from it. Are you reading it for class?

message 274: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Yes. At first I was really hesitant to read it, but to be quite honest it's proven very interesting.

message 275: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments That's good. It can be frustrating to read an assigned book that you don't enjoy or aren't learning from.

message 276: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I'm finished.
My review will be up either tomorrow or early Tuesday

message 277: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I am currently reading too many things. But Ghostly Echoes is quite good so far, I highly recommend the Jackaby series.

I've also started The Blinding Knife, which is good so far.

And I'm slowly making my way through The Order of the Phoenix. I have no idea why it's taking me so long with that one.

message 278: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I'm reading a high-end finish

message 279: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments What is that, Jackie?

message 280: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I think I would classify it as a cozy mystery. I just finished it and think I will start the next one.

message 281: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Those can be pretty fun. Glad you liked it. :)

message 282: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Yep. There nice and quick reads.

message 283: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Just finished the second book in the series. This one was also very light, but had a little more action than the second. I really enjoyed it and think I will continue with the series.

message 284: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments How many books are in the series?

message 285: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments It looks like there are five, but the fifth one comes out in November of this year.

message 286: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I'm listening to Northanger Abbey right now. It's been a while and I'm loving it. Henry Tilney may be the best character Austen created.

message 287: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I just finished reading Red Queen.

message 288: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I am currently reading a few things.
Dawn of Wonder is pretty good so far. I'm about 17% in. The story is really just getting going.

The Blinding Knife which I have been reading on and off for a while. I nedd to finish within three weeks though, because it has to go back to the library. So far it's good. I'm liking Kip more now and of course Gavin is great.

Fantastic Creatures which is an anthology. I read two stories. The first one wasn't great, the second one was better. We'll see as it goes.

Dreamless is really good so far. I read about a fourth of it yesterday. I'm not sure why I don't read more mystery/crime novels.

message 289: by Kylara (new)

Kylara Jensen | 437 comments I'm currently reading several books:
Hamilton The Revolution by Lin-Manuel Miranda -- It's fun to read while listening to the soundtrack. I want to buy this book but it's like $40. (Worth! it's gorgeous)

The Thorn of Dentonhill (Maradaine, #1) by Marshall Ryan Maresca -- Despite the cover looking like a romance novel, this is actually an awesome fantasy noir. I have it as my bed time book but haven't read any in a while because I've been falling asleep too early.

I just read
Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett and loved it!!

I have a bunch of books I should be reading through my overdrive acct but it is sometimes hard for me to get into books on my phone or computer.

message 290: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Glad you are enjoying your current reads! And I've seen Alex, Approximately at the library several times. Glad you loved it!

message 291: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments How are your books progressing Courtney?

message 292: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Pretty well. Haven't touched a couple of them over the past couple of days, so I need to get back to them. I also started an audio copy of A Study in Scarlet that I have for review. I'll listen while I drive to and from work. :)

message 293: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Wow, you've got quite a few books going. I don't know if I could do that. :)

message 294: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Sometimes it's a good thing, other times not so much. :) I like having multiples so I can switch back and forth though. That way I'm not rushing through anything.

message 295: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments And tomorrow I will be adding Once and for All...hopefully I can finish something before then. Or have something close to being finished at least.

message 296: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I can't wait for it! Are you going to see her?

message 297: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments That makes sense. :)

message 298: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I don't think I will be able to get to any of them. :( Maybe she'll come back to Yallfest and I can make it down there. Are you going?

message 299: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I'm really going to try! I mean, it's so close! I'm torn though cause homework. But also, it's Sarah freaking Dessen! Ok, who am I kidding, I have to go. She's never this close!

message 300: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Yes! You must! Haha. But try to keep up with your work too. :)
