Recommendations FAQ -

Through this read-a-thon, we're going to recommend books in the hopes of putting a ton more books on our TBR! With recommendations ~
╰⊰✿ Recommendations Thread for Recommendations ONLY! Separate threads will be for Chat/Interactions and so on. Please only make your Recommendations, and nothing else, in the Recommendations Thread!
╰⊰✿ Try to recommend something not extremely popular (no Harry Potter!) We want to get new books and with extremely big series/books, people already know about them. Give us something new to want!
╰⊰✿ REMEMBER: Our group is an ALL AGES group. Please no recommendations of a mature nature. Gore and violence is ok (it's in Hunger Games after all) but nothing too over the top and no erotica please. (Members of the Back Room may make recommendations there, be on the lookout for a mini Back Room version of this read-a-thon!)

Stephanie | 194 comments Recommendations for Books Featuring Groups of Friends:

Magic Kingdom For Sale/Sold (Magic Kingdom of Landover, #1) by Terry Brooks Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer The Kill Order (Maze Runner, #0.5) by James Dashner

(These are all books from series that I don't hear a lot about, but are fairly popular still. I don't quite know how to classify a major series, I guess, but these were the best I could think of trying to restrict myself).

message 8: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Recommendations for groups of friends:
Watership Down by Richard Adams
The Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay (Pretty sure this is enough orange) and
The Crown Tower (The Riyria Chronicles, #1) by Michael J. Sullivan

message 9: by Cait S (new)

Cait S | 2825 comments Dead City (Dead City, #1) by James Ponti (Fast paced YA horror novel with a kick butt group of friends in a zombie hunting team.)

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart (Short and twisted YA mystery with a interesting relationship dynamics between friends)

Looking for Alaska by John Green (Just in case there's anyone who hasn't discovered John Green yet or has only heard of The Fault in Our Stars... This book is an incredible look at friendship.)

(Ps: I swear I really do read things besides YA!...Sometimes!..)

message 10: by Daphne (new)

Daphne (daphnesm) | 937 comments Ozma of Oz (Oz, #3) by L. Frank Baum 3rd in the Oz series. Not enough people realize that Baum wrote dozens of splendid books about Dorothy and all the characters in OZ.
The Companions (The Sundering, #1; Legend of Drizzt, #24) by R.A. Salvatore
Another Life (Torchwood, #1) by Peter Anghelides

message 11: by Karen D (last edited Mar 12, 2016 10:56AM) (new)

Karen D | 785 comments A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara - one of my favorite books of all time, and about four friends through most of it

Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu - the three (Tess, Day, June) aren't exactly friends through most of it, but they are for some and their relationship is integral to the story

The Lords of Discipline by Pat Conroy - another book that I can re-read a million times, about four friends trying to survive a military academy

Don't have a good orange one to recommend, oh well...

message 13: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 298 comments My recommendations (if any of these just happen to have orange covers, though it's unlikely, let me know.) :d

The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch
I'm savoring this book about a group of thieves, a few pages at a time. It's high fantasy, which can be a bit hard for me to read at times, but it's so absolutely worth it when you see some of the craziness these guys can pull off.

Pandemonium (Delirium, #2) by Lauren Oliver
You should probably go back and read the first book in this series, but I'm recommending the second because, by far, it's my favorite. And, there is camaraderie evident within a group of people throughout most of the book.

A Matchless Romance (Aisle Bound, #4) by Christi Barth
This series you don't have to read in order. I read this fourth one, and enjoyed it just fine without reading any of the others.
If you like a beta hero who is sweet, yet confident, mostly, then this book is for you. The series is about a group of friends who run a wedding planning business, and all of the romance they experience.

So there ya go, high fantasy, YA distopian, and sweet romance, for your reading pleasure. :)

These books are really cute for moms of young children. My kiddos love them. The cover is orange and they are preschool aged dinosaurs. Dinofours: It's Fire Drill Day! Dinofours It's Fire Drill Day! by Steve Metzger

Happiness Key These books are seriously good. A fun series about a group of unlikely friends in an idyllic setting.

And with those whose kids are early middle grades, or if you are nostalgic....The View from Saturday is such a heart touching book about a group of young friends! I would recommend it to anyone!

Imagination Meg (imaginationmeg) | 60 comments Recommendations for books featuring a group of friends that aren't from major series:

The Looking Glass Wars (The Looking Glass Wars, #1) by Frank Beddor - A great book that is a twist on the classic Alice in Wonderland that tells the real story. The friends end up split up for a while, but it is still about them.

The Candymakers by Wendy Mass - This book is about a group of kids who compete to become the best candy maker and some are friends at the start, but they are all friends by the end.

The Egypt Game (Game, #1) by Zilpha Keatley Snyder - This was one of my favorites for a while - it is a mystery (or rather, multiple mysteries) and feature some friends that participate in a sustained imaginary game about Egypt when things go missing.
